Good Morning, Coolerites!

It was a most beautimus weekend, and we are basking in the afterglow. Prom afterglow, weekend fun...

And since the bar is being overrun by kitties, I thought I'd counterpoint with Cthulhu.

Please don't tell me you ditched the Prom to get all spliffy & celebrate the Holiday...

edit: I think everyone had a great time, though the board acted wonky for part of the day.

I certainly don't want you to be sad. Business is pressing on me and I'll struggle just to lurk. My day will be less bright without "conversations" with you and others.

I'll need to save up my evil streak for taunting Jonny.

The first time there was a Prom I could acutally have taken part in and I missed it - my father is a miser and my mother is driving me insane - but I love them and they are giving me shelter at the moment... so... *sigh* Can we have another one when i am online again...? please?

How are we all - and forgive my total ignorance - I often see and hear about Chthulu - but what the hell is it???

Hugs to you all!!

I didn't ditch prom for that.

I ditched work for that.

The internet is at work, and the prom is on the internet, so it was an unfortunate trickle-down/side-efffect. There was no way in hell that I was going to be at work on that particular day. I celebrated the holidays with family and friends, though I did miss all of you.

I could have danced all night
I could have danced all night
And still have begged for more
I could have spread my wings
And done a thousand things
I'd never done before
I'll never know what made it so exciting

Busy. Though it was a beautiful weekend here in Maryland, the store was outrageously busy. (Normally, such nice weather would mean people aren't shopping but doing other outdoor stuff.)

So, order entry is swamped today! But that's a good thing.

And you?

So sleepy!

Well folks it's a good thing to own a cat. I think last night could have gone very wrong. The cat woke me up by springing off the bed around 3:30am. This was enough for me to hear a bunch of hissing and popping coming from the living room. So, I stumble out there and see that my battery recharger is making these noises. Not a good sign. Apparently you're not supposed to charge those things overnight. It took them about 5 minutes to calm down after unplugging. So, I threw the whole thing in the tub for the night and chucked it in the dumpster this morning. Though I'm thinking things could have gotten a lot worse if the cat hadn't roused me when she did. Good kitty.

Good almost-afternoon, Friends, Roamers and Countryfolk.

Stopping by to bask in some afterglow. Sorry to the ladies I missed dancing with (LA, soooo sorry!) due to my hasty departure. Something about a couch and a pumpkin; I'm still not clear on the details.

Stats fer them that cares:

232 posts for the thread. (See what you can do without a Mandate?)

Started at 7:05 EDT and ended at 22:01; that's four mintutes shy of 15 hours!!! And from all accounts a blast was had by all.

Anybody hear from HK yet?

Wow, 232 posts. That rocks!

Zeek, I love that your cat warned you. I'd expect that of a dog, but most cats couldn't be bothered. That is great, and worthy of some catnip!

I had a good weekend. Went to the in-laws on Sunday for lunch- it was a gorgeous day. My mom-in-law asked me to run to the store to get some milk for the kids (Carson & cousin Hannah). When I went outside, I discovered her prized 1988 Toyota Corolla convertible ( one of 15 Corollas choppped in CA for Elvira's first movie)was blocking Ellie. I go back inside to ask her to move it and she flips me the keys.
"Take the Toyota to the store. Its such a nice day!"
I nearly fell over. She has never let me drive it before. Now, it's not the nicest car, but driving it on such a nice nice day along country roads was the highlight of my weekend. Hair flying, sun shining, music playing. It was awesome. Makes me wanna chop the Element.

*Trying to find a pic of it*

I sent Sarah a PM, asking her to keep us informed. I hope we hear from her.

Morning folks.

MSG: I see your sore forearms and raise you sore hamstrings. Ouch. I spent almost all day Saturday and Sunday painting horse jumps for our upcoming show on the 29th. The weather was rainy and gross, so it added a bunch of extra work of moving everything into the barn so the fresh paint didn't get ruined. The jumps do look fantastic, though.

I will say that I've lost a little faith in humanity. I'm sorry, but my generation SUCKS. And the children of those my age? Phffft. What happened to a work ethic? What happened to helping out even if it is hard, labor intensive work?

After four years I'm getting tired of managing these horse shows. I put in a TON of work (for free) so these kids can have a cheap place to show (our show costs them about $50/day whereas a small away show would cost about $250) and can have nice jumps (all show proceeds go to buying new jumps, fixing things up, etc). And they can't even come out and help paint...or set the course the day before, or clean the jumps, or volunteer to be the gate person, etc. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

I'm about this close *holds up thumb and pointer finger* to calling it quits. If people can't step up and help, why should I break my back to provide this for them?

But, on a happy note, I get a free 1/2 hour massage tonight at the gym. That's a happy, happy thing.

So when are coming to CA, 'cause that sounds just perfect....

Actually, I should cut folks a little slack...I never directly asked them to help. Just put up a bazillion flyers and sent a ton of emails asking for help. And finally, while I was outside painting on my own listening to everyone laugh and have a grand ole time in the barn, I got a little passive aggressive and called to someone to see if they could bring me a beer. That let them know what I was doing and guilted two into helping. I should've just asked, but I sort of figure that if someone WANTS to help, they will offer.

But that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Well happy F-ing Monday all. Not a bad weekend, just in a mood.

I get what you're sayin' RB. Wouldn't ya think people would offer to do more when they see what you do and never complain. Makes sense, but folks just take stuff for granted. You should ask who is willing to help and delegate stuff to them. Why miss out on all the fun? Hell, I'd be more than happy to serve as a gate person for a few hours.

Hiya everyone. So um this weekend was odd. My mommy left the state again for an emergency in Florida. While she's gone (between 1 mo and 1 year) she's letting me use her vehical so I don't have to buy one. while cleaning it and chatting with her on the phone she dropped this little bomb. She has a tumor on her liver. While I barely know the women somehow I would have thought I'd have known by now. It's not cancerious but it is causeing some serious health problems. I'm sure I love my mom this should feel devestating in some way right?

LOL Mav- that poor kitty

Copilot- I don't think any particular reaction is "normal" You might feel nothing now due to shock or you're simply processing it...or if you aren't close with your mother you might just feel that general pity you feel for anyone who is sick. If it makes you feel any better, the first time my mom had cancer she told us after she was scheduled for the operation and by the time we all found out, she was home and fine...it was a little surreal. MsG, you'd make me blush if I had any shame at all. We all know better than that. The ladies were lovely on Friday, every last one. (so while I'm catching up on missed dances I'm going to grab Hobbleit 'round the waist and drag her to the floor, too. (The dancefloor, you perverts!)

Hey RIMG, NVG, RB, CP.

Sorry you missed the festival but glad you made the festivus, RIMG. I hope I can say that without fear of arrest.

NVG, hope the mood continues its upward swing.

RB, I can't state this strongly enough: YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO ASK FOR ANY GORRAM HELP! They should be lining up like after the Tom Sawyer con, begging to be next. But I'm old.

CP, in '94 (1994, not 1894...) I got news from my cousin that my dad was really ill--as in "hurry up while there's still time". Turns out he'd been diagnosed with lung cancer and emphysema in November of '93. I got word in May of '94. My dad and I were not "estranged" but as you said hardly knew each other. We did love each other but by the time we had the chance to bond we were people that we didn't know, if that makes sense. For me the news was devastating on several levels but it was all in terms of "my loss". I "felt" for his suffering, but maybe not anymore (or at least a little more) than anyone else who had the same thing going on. We got all our plans set to have him convalesce at a nursing home near where I lived so we could have his last weeks together and had him moved. Two days later, he was gone.

The moral is don't assume that something like this will automatically bridge all gaps and don't feel guilty ever about what you feel or don't feel. Likewise, don't reject an oportunity when it presents itself either. And bear in mind, hopefully your mom's problem is not in the least bit life threatening which could--as far as time goes--allow other opportunities for closeness to present themselves.

Hey right now I am taking a chocolate covered altoid mini break... I'm glad you added your wisdom. I am now alloting myself 8 altoids per day. I get 2 for 4th period, 2 for lunch, 2 for 5th period and 2 for th. I have to ration them for those moments when I can either suck the altoid or kill the kid:)

That has to be a euphemism for something...

Loose Ends and Musings Department:

A coupla weeks back, I posted a TV quiz and never gave the "right" answer. To recap:

1) In which country are the most redheads born?
Scotland
Ireland
United States

The correct answer is Scotland. FlyVote and I both thought that the answer must be the US simply because of sheer numbers, although FV was the only one to say so here.

It turns out that the question was ambiguous to the point of being useless. Scotland has the highest percentage of their own population (13%), Ireland has the second highest percentage (10%), and the US has the lowest (2-6%), but even with figuring the 2% the US has more total redheads.

Secondly, has anyone seen this Quiznos commericial?

Does anyone else think that it (aside from being excruciatingly stoopid--and therefore ROFL-worthy) sets women back?

And just for fun: the shirt I am wearing today looks very much like this:

Much as I hate to admit it, I'm gonna miss that. But I'm an attention whore.

That commercial is the perhaps the most heinous one currently airing. I bless tivo every time I get to skip past it. I find Quiznos' choice in editing to be (yes, stoopid) and in incredibly poor taste. Also, that woman should be found and taken out of the gene pool.

Honestly, it looked like an outtake from "Real Sex", not that I would know...and surely there's a Darwin Award out there waiting for her.
