America loves a winner!

it gets shown on t.v.

Does that seem right to you ?

C'mon, fess up. How many are guilty of this too ? It makes no sense, but I own a few movies ( Spiderman, XMen, X2, Lord of the Rings,etc... ) and seldom find time to rewatch them. Oh, but then TNT or TBS shows them back to back on the weekend, and I can't NOT watch!

What's up with that?

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

LOL

I actually do re watch from time to time.. I don't want them to lose their very specialness... so I don't watch over and over.. but I have a theory about watching on TV..

I think there is something about watching it on TV you are "sharing" the experience with a lot of other ppl.. there is a sense of community.

Bingo! I was thinking that exactly! There's something about it being broadcasted that lets you know everyone else interested is watching at that time too.

Kinda similar to when we try to coordinate everyone watching their FIREFLY DVDs on Friday nights, at 8pm. But different. (sigh)

I liked the preview for Lord of the Rings next week on TBS, and the 'It sucks to be Frodo 'line. Too gorram funny!

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

I do that, but with tapes, so that they don't get worn out. Plus, those commercial breaks are a lot more convenient than putting the movie on pause, and then having to put it on pause again every three minutes.

But you have to admit that some tv stations take advantage of commericals - putting like 7 in a row every 15 mins of show we get to see - thats the part i dont like

oh well i guess everything has its own faults

Watching it on TV doesn't require me to get up and put the DVD into the DVD player.

I think that's why I do it alot.

You mean you then re-watch it on broadcast? I'd have to say almost never to that. I do -sometimes- pop the dvd in when I notice a show's being broadcast, but I prefer to do my own pause at my convenience. In general, I'm done with the move 15 to 20 minutes earlier than the broadcast and I don't have to find a way to ignore the goram commercials.

However, for the times I pop a dvd movie in, I'd say "being reminded by broadcast" is only... 10% of my movie selections?

Movies on TV have a lot of scenes edited out to allow the movie to fit in a two-hour time block with commercials, so I never watch movies on TV since you aren't seeing the full movie as it was intended.

They always edit out the good parts too.

I can't stand it when someone cusses and they edit it out and insert a different word.

The reason I watch a movie on TV is pretty similar to why I own the movie: I like it. I watch it.

Of course, when I do watch it on TV instead of popping in the DVD, I'm usually multitasking. If I intend to really watch something in goes the DVD. If I am just watching for filler while playing an online game or sewing, it doesn't matter much which format I watch.

I've got a movie channel package on my satellite subscription here in the UK and they show Serenity a couple of times a week. I know that I'm not going to sit down and watch it on TV but I find myself compulsively checking to see when they are next showing it, (tomorrow at 5pm by the way). It's like a strange nervous tick.

This happened to me this last weekend with Band of Brothers on the History Channell. I would up spending Sunday afternoon watching it when I have the series on DVD.

I rarely watch the shows on regular tv (due to the commercials.. a real drag ITA) but on cable, no commercials...

and Peulsar5... I love Band of Brothers... sometimes I too have to get lost in another place or time.. and I love history.

With me, I only end up watching TV when I literally have NOTHING else that I want to do. So, finding a good movie is like finding a slightly washed $20 bill in my pocket.

If I own them I don't watch them on TV. I'm not gonna cheat myself out of a good movie by watching commericals.
