ARTICLE ON IMDB MENTIONS DRIVES 2 HOUR NUMBERS

NBC's ratings last week were its worst during a regular season since Nielsen's "people meters" were introduced 20 years ago -- and may have been the network's worst ever. Not a single NBC show was listed in the top 20, and only two, the Monday edition of Deal or No Deal and the once unbeatable E.R., made it into the top 30. ("You know things are bad at NBC when Howie Mandel is the main attraction," TV columnist John Maynard wrote today in the Washington Post.) Fox held on again to the top two positions on the Nielsen list with its two editions of American Idol, but it was also hit by a two-hour ratings misfortune on Sunday night with the premiere of Drive, which attracted only 6 million viewers. CBS once again emerged as the highest-rated network of the week with an average 7.3 rating and a 12 share. Fox placed second with a 6.2/10, edging out ABC, which rook third with a 6.1/10. NBC was far behind with an average 4.5/8. Among the nightly newscasts, ABC's World News With Charles Gibson increased its lead slightly as it averaged a 6.0 rating and a 12 share. NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams placed second with a 5.7/12, while the CBS Evening News With Katie Couric continued to shed viewers, posting a 4.6/9.

"And I think calling him that is an insult to the psychotic lowlife community."

now, i love nathan with every ounce of my being, but drive looks about as uninteresting as a show can look.
but that might just be me. i don't know anything about cars, i have no interest in cars, and have no desire to learn about cars. i don't overly enjoy racing, or chase scenes, and, i may be wrong, i've only seen the commercials, but that seems to be the bread and butter of drive.
that doesnt mean i'm glad the show isn't doing well. i would love to see it fly through the roof, but i'm not going to watch it. maybe when it's on i'll just turn my tv on and go do something else.

I love Drive. Yes there are cars, I don't know much about cars either, but it's not about cars.

Drive is as much about cars, as Firefly was about spaceships.

It's about what Drives people, not about what they drive. try the first 3 episodes here http://www.myspace.com/driveonfox
if it's not your bag, fine, but at least try it before you dismiss it.

Well, the numbers may be weak but it can't be from a lack of promotion. They have promoted the hell out of this new series.
I think the problem with the series is reflected earlier in this post. Tim Minear is famous for multi-layered programs that are not what they appear to be on the surface.
It's hard to get people interested when they only see one layer. Much like Firefly -- it's a hard sell.
When I first saw the ad for Firefly, my husband said "I gotta watch that!" and I said "that looks stupid". Thank god he forced me to watch it. I never had a clue of the complexities that might lie within that "stupid" show.
Minear's shows are not what they appear to be on their commercials.
It's unfortunate really. I think it's a level of writing talent that will continually go unappreciated.
I have absolutely no appreciation for cars, speed or racing. I admit I do enjoy the pace of the show and the character revelations along the way. I'll keep watching it 'til they yank it.

I'm a big dumb male. I like driving fast. I like passing people, but I love this show, because it's not about that.
The ads have been good, but they don't reflect the show well.
It's hard for an ad to reflect that the show is above the comprehension of the retarded masses.
I don't mean that as it sounds. I work with folk that have MR, and find them more intelligent than the average person.

As Jadehand has said, meangoldfish it's not about cars and speed. It's not about the race...it's about the people in the race and the focus shifts from person to person but comes back often to the mystery that is Alex Tully and the dilemma he is in. They've co-erced him into racing. He's a very exciting character. There is much multilayeredness in this show.

My take on this is that even if it's not your cup of tea... Nathan has done so much for this fandom, particularly showing up last year at B3...that I'm going to show up ( watch this show!! ) no matter what. For me that's easy, I'm already hooked on the show.

I know that he'd appreciate Browncoats being supportive of him and Tim and their cast and crew.

On Monday the ratings fell as well, Darkfly, but most of the viewers who tuned in Sunday stayed with the show. Sunday was a hard night to premiere, hell...April is a hard month to premiere...people are not used to new shows starting up right before the tax due date.

Anony has started a really cool thing and I'm going to copy it. I'm already promoting Drive at my work and in my personal life, but she's been handing out pieces of paper, I'm going to use little note cards, with the Drive myspace link on it where folks can go and watch the eps and catch up. Anyone who's become interested in it since hearing more about it can catch up and be right there with the rest of us next Monday.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Sad to hear about Drive's numbers. I had a bad feeling going into this that this might happen. Tim is a great writer, but he excels at the slow build to a great plot. Most people nowadays seem to want instant gratification and are too impatient to stick around for the payoff.

I have been talking about Drive on some of the other boards I visit. I will go by and hype it today and this weekend to see if I can steer some more people towards Drive this coming Monday.

I'm enjoying watching Drive, i'm finding it pretty interesting.

Also i love spotting the little nod's to us firefly fans, for example in episode 3 "you don't want to meet the real alex tully" is clearly a nod to "do you want to meet the real me now?" or atleast im taking it as one.

Is anyone else having troubles watching Drive on Myspace?
I am in Canada, and I know it will not work for Canadians, but I am going through an anonymous U.S proxy and I still can't get it to work.
Anyone Fellow Canadian Browncoats find a way to watch it on Myspace...please share your fruity oat bar goodness with me.

I think the main thing is that this is a mystery series--that is, things are slowly revealed from week to week about the characters and about the situation. Think Lost, but on the freeway. And Drive isn't about the race anymore than Lost is about the island. It's about the slow reveal of the mystery. Trouble is, people bought into Lost right away, partly because they hyped the mystery. They didn't do that with Drive--they just hyped the race. So I guess it's a wait-and-see game to see if Drive gets enough audience to keep going. Poor Nathan: could he really take getting cut off at the knees again?

I don't actually watch TV anymore, just DVDs of shows I hear a lot about (like FF), and I had no interest in the Fast & the Furious movies, (although I wore out one DVD player running Steve McQueen's Le Mans about 237 times (See, I was 8 when that movie first came out, and it sorta left an impression.)), but I would watch Drive just for Fillion's acting & Minear's writing!

Sorry, but I think this is good news. This show is not very impressive to me. I can't buy many of these characters as real people. I'm believing the daughter, the army wife and the ex-con. The rest aren't realistic at all. The reason they aren't realistic is this dumb race premise. They really needed to find a better premise.

So, basically I'm hoping this show gets the axe. That way Nathan can find a better role to play and I can stop watching Fox.

I'm enjoying it, too. Which leads me to the question: What do we call ourselves? "Drive" fans, I mean. We should come up with a nickname like Browncoats or X-Philes while we have the chance. But what? The Driven? The Shotgun Callers? Drive Wires? Let's hear some suggestions!

I'm jumping to the bottom here without reading all the posts so I'm not meaning to step on any toes. Forgive me if I do.

First up, I really did enjoy the first showing of DRIVE. More than I wanted to to be honest. The second one on Monday was good too. But DRIVE ain't no FIREFLY. I'll bet the 6 million veiwers could have be called the 6 Fillion viewers (all browncoats). I will continue the support the show because it is entertaining and I happen to like Mal Reynolds in a "man friend" way, come on now!! Anyhoo I don't feel DRIVE will give Nathan a chance to show his full range as an actor. FIREFLY gave every actor and actress on that show a chance to explore their characters to the fullest. There's room for more discovery in those characters. Some of these networks like CBS or HBO should make F*X a bid and try it get it for their network. Maybe F*X is scarred that someone could turn FF with new eps written by Joss into GOLD.I sure do miss Serenity's crew.

Just some thoughts, Z
