HOBBLEIT

speaking of shortness, my A level English Lit teacher was only about 4'8". I'm not the tallest person in the world (I'm 5'3") but i was a head and a half taller than her when she was in heels and i wasn't.

Good afternoon everyone. I've had a very productive day. I am now 3 chapters and 5000 words into my dissertation. yay me.

ooh go hobbleit!!!

Yeah 5'2" is still taller than my mom, but not most of my students...I always wanted to be tall and goddess-like, but I'm stuck in pixie. Oh well:)

Hey so prom plans. I figure we have the prom start tomorrow.

FMF had a great idea and suggested we try and do a big conference yahoo chat thing, but I'm not sure how that will work out for everyone.

I've figured the menu...

Starters- hot spicy crab dip, sweet and sour meatballs, terrine of pesto, spiced cream cheese, and sundried tomatoes, and crudites

Main course- grilled asparagus, whipped, garlic herb mashed potatoes, spinach salad and your choice of flank steak with bearnaise sauce or rosemary chicken divan

Desserts- Tres Leches, vanilla bean cheese cake, black forest mousse cake, caramel custard, strawberry shortcake, and cream puffs with chocolate sauce

OK so I have my first actual topic and it is mostly directed at the Ladies out here for input but you studley men are more than welcome too.

Ok so a friend of mine and myself try to meet for lunch once a week. This has been going on for the last 5 or so months. Normally we go to Mongolian BBQ cuz well... nothing says lunch like a pound of prime rib, NY strip, Pork Loin, sausage and a couple of veggies stir fried to your liking for under 8 bucks. Anyway, he had to cancel last week at the last minute and I was all craving my stir fry so I went alone.

I get there and they are kinda busy. Not too bad but enough to have that buzz in the air from conversations. I get seated and my waitress comes over and goes through her little spiel and I go and prepare my bowl o meat.

I walk up to the counter where the grillers work and there is this really cute “girl” (I say that because she might have been over 20 but I am not thinking so) working the grill with her back to me.

(So this is where it starts to get weird)

The “girl” turns around and sees me and says “hEll-O” (not like the “I am an employee and here to serve you” hello but an I want to “serve you” hello that guys do from time to time under their breath when they see a stunning beauty (yes sometimes we are pigs, try not to faint)). So, at that point I get the once over by her (and I feel really dirty) and then she cooks my food. Looking at me and smiling from time to time, making me all kinds of uncomfortable.

Food is done and I go and sit down. I look up and she is not only staring at me but she is pointing me out to 3 of the wait staff.

(This is where it gets even weirder (is that a word?))

So all of a sudden I not only have my original waitress but 3 others coming over every couple of minutes to see if I am doing alright and wondering if I needed anything. When they leave they go back to the cook and they whisper to each other and giggle and are looking away if I look at them.

Yes I realize that they thought I was cute (shud-up PR, Mags and LA!), but this has never happened to me before.

So now I am all paranoid about going back the my FAVORITE lunch spot with my friend cuz he is the kind of guy that would so make a scene about something like that and embarrass the hell right out of me (mainly cuz I called him and said that his ugliness must have been the reason that this never happened before) and don’t get me wrong I would do the same thing to him if I were in his shoes!

So here are my questions………

Where in the heck was this when I was younger (like in HS)!? Or even after school on my escapades through the country.

And

Do any of you women feel like this when it happens?

My most personal posting thus far so I will add a piece of my background.

I only had one GF in school (probably my fault as I was more into football and such for most of it) and that was the last 2 years of HS. In the Army I had 2 people I was kinda seeing. When I got out of the Army I started dating Laurelin and we were married in 1998. So let’s do some math….. I actually dated 4 people in my life, never had a one night stand and have never seen this kind of reaction from a person. WTF is going on? I look pretty much the same as I did in school (maybe a little bit heavier 190 lbs baby! Compared to the 165 – 175 in my “youth”)

Has the way women act changed that much from when I was younger? Now mind you I am still young in my book but not in my 20s anymore.

That is all! Now back to goofiness!

Kelkhil,

It probably has everything to do with how you present yourself. Confidence is sexy. Contentment is sexy. Sometimes that comes with knowing that you are secure and loved by someone and then shines through and becomes attractive to others.

I'm feelin' ya K. Seems that stuff happens alot now that I've hit this "Almost thirty and could care less about games" hump.

Good morning everyone. Seems I decided to try working today without feeling much better. But since we're blessed with being short handed I get to feel important today. Yay me.

Thanks for a good definition of grok. I too was completely out of the loop until hearing the definition. It fits well. I must again apologize for anything I said that could be taken as sarcastic. I have been working on communicating more effectively with people but I get easily frustrated with my lack of understanding.

And for HK, I didn't give up on you. I gave up on myself. Seems I talked myself into a corner with my own lack of patience. A majority of the things I experience need to be internalized or it feels like they never happened.

Aw heck. Almost forgot I'm at work. Hope to check in soon.

MsG - spectacular menu for the prom, and I'm glad you didn't include any really heavy fried foods, taking the fact that we are going to be dancing into account.

Kel - Oh, to have that problem. I would just take it as a compliment and go on doing things the way you have been. Odds are that isn't the first time the ladies have noticed you, just the first time something was done about it.

NVG - When/if you ever get a chance, read Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land. It had a tremendous impact on me, and I think you would like it.

Good point. MsG please fry the main course as well. The less people with weak stomachs dancing the better. Well pretty much the less dancing anyone does the better. Still we gotta help out Darwinism the best we can.

I suggest popcorn steak as the main course. That will increase the surface area that can be covered in batter. We can fry up those potatoes and make french fries out of them. Fried ice cream works for dessert. I'm sure you can come up with some other options too with you culinary expertise.

Kelkhil - I am guess you have the male blindness gene. This strikes men in several ways. One of them is the " I think I'm not a hot guy so I never notice all the subtle flirting girls do" . Some how girls of our generation learned to be subtle when they flirted. This subtle flirting is apparently profoundly difficult for guys to notice. The young twenties set is far more open and obvious with their flirting. So you just got to notice obvious flirting...
Also I'd agree with Rugbug that confidence is really sexy:)

HUGS NV and good luck on the extra duty:)

It has never happened to you because most woman aren't that forward, and the ones that are - well its usually drink, some outside momentary influence or well the "work" for a living.

Take it as a compliment and let it feed your self esteem. But I would say steer clear of this girl, the fact that she was pointing you out is juvenile and I smell trouble. (Not saying you was innerested, just saying)

I have had this kind of thing happen (because men will hoot and holler at anything) And I hate it. But then I don't like to be looked at, so there you go.

This is the tux that I have. Note that the collar fits in the style of the Firefly 'verse. I can get the ivory vest and tie.

Or if this prom is to be held on Persephone in the grand ballroom ("look mangoes!") then I could be persuaded to go with a white tux with a lavender vest.

I'll match my cuff links to either gold or white gold (or silver) jewelry. I have a lot of white gold cuff links.

And if Penguin isn't there, I'll put these on in his honor:

But alas she finds no Kelkhil in the Pic threads (at least no Pics of Kelkhil).

Thank you for the words and the warning FMF. The rest of you also.

I do not think it is a confidence issue (for Rubug and MSG) because I have always held myself the same for as long as I can remember. When I was in HS most of Laurelin's friends (we kinda knew each other back then) wanted to throw me a beating because of the way I held myself. They said I needed an as$ whippen to take that attitude out of me.

I grabbed the first lavender roses I could find.

Ugh. This is what I got: (dang kid shows up everywhere.)

But I'll have this done in a lavender rose for my tux:

And this for the lovely FMF's wrist:

Oh, and this I found:

History and Meaning of Lavender Roses

Primary Significance: Enchantment, Majesty, Love at First Sight

One of the rarest and most visually stunning rose colors is lavender. The eye-catching shades of light purple have made the lavender rose a wildly popular alternative for romantic occasions, as well as an everyday favorite for all who enjoy its distinctive appearance. A bouquet of lavender roses can definitely make a striking impression. In addition, there are many time-honored meanings traditionally associated with them. Few other flowers can match the beauty of these fascinating roses.

Lavender Roses have had a captivating allure throughout their long history. There are several lavender rose varieties in cultivation, ranging from the Old Garden varieties to more modern rose hybrids. Lavender rose species include miniature rose bushes as well as larger single bloom flowers. It is the longer stemmed variation that has become the most popular for floral arrangements, and which often carries the most symbolic significance.

As with other roses, lavender roses have their own special meanings which have evolved over the years of their existence. The lavender rose is often a sign of enchantment and love at first sight. Those who have been enraptured by feelings of love and adoration have used lavender roses to express their romantic feelings and intentions. The color purple also has a traditional association with royalty. In this regard, shades of lavender roses can suggest an air of regal majesty and splendor.

Lavender roses also share some of the symbolism of the fabled blue rose. Because blue roses do not occur naturally, they have come to represent the mysterious and unattainable. The goal of discovering the first blue rose has ignited many imaginations. While the quest for truly blue roses continues, many of the meanings associated with them have become tied to its nearest existing relative, the lavender rose. Thus, lavender roses can also represent wonder and impossibility, with a sense of the magical.

As a way to express our most sincere love and appreciation, the appeal of the lavender rose is undeniable. They can be the perfect choice for those wishing to make an impact with a unique and extraordinary flower. With the wealth of symbolism that they possess, they can also be used to convey any number of deeply meaningful messages. Throughout the history of roses, the lavender rose has stood out as one of the most remarkable and engaging varieties available. Receiving a bouquet of lavender roses can make for an unforgettable experience.

I would ask if anyone else is having this same problem, but if you are you wouldn't be able to see this, and I wouldn't be able to see your reply anyway, heh. Hopefully it'll fix itself soon.

Oh! But I can see the post if I reply to it!

Ah, Ha! I thought I was the only sneaky one.

May you have enough.

You're right, this does have Ninja Kitty written all over it! (HK, you know I love ya doll.) I'd recommend that we have stealthy, ninja-like conversations, but I have a sinking suspicion that all of this will suddenly become visible...

I take it back. I think HK would be working to help us. I blame the Stealth Ninja Hypno-Toads.

Hey. The linear thread still works! I can see everybody again. Too bad nothing else does. It kind of kills the mood.

May you have enough.

Heh, Draconus, the quote at the top of your posts is quite appropriate for the situation: "Either I'm going crazy or the world is. Either way, something ain't right."

Hell's Kitten is doing this to us. Only one of her Ninja Skill could pull something like this off.
