I personally hope there are various people betting on the contestants as opposed to one eccentric, semi-omnesceint billionaire pitting people against one another for fun. That'd be a bit cliche. However, would you rather see Tully win the race and get his wife back or go outside the rules and get his wife back by taking down the race organizers and preventing future races?

OK, the thing is the back of the semi that would help Alex wasn't his wife, it was the car!

So, I'm loving Nathan, but disappointed with most everything else. Characters and subplots are a bit flat and contrived for me. Sorry! I'm still watching, assuming it'll get better, because it's Tim.

I do like the highway chase scenes and music, and the camera work is pretty sweet, like the first bit of the race when they're all leaving the hotel. I just hope that not every highway in the US looks exactly like the one they've been on, with a double yellow line right down the middle but everyone going the same way...

Can't agree more with you about the highway. I-75 doesn't look like that at any point that I'm aware of and there is absolutely no mountain range on any horizon near Gainesville.

Besides that, I don't know where you get off saying that his car was in the back of the semi and not his wife. The trucker had a picture of his wife, not the car. I suppose his car could have been in the back as well, but his wife was definitely also there.

Wow. You sound angry. Really?

It makes sense to me - the car sure as hell will help him finish the race. His wife? Not so much. Yeah, probably she was there too, because the baddies playing him have to be following him around with all they need to play with his head - the wife, the camera phone to call him with at any second he may demand it, the car and all they need to set up a warehouse with the faux cop shop and the good backlighting for said pretty car, etc. (Contrived? Not at all!)

As for where I get off saying it... in my office, I guess, cause that's where I am. Oh yeah, gettin' off!

Sorry mal4prez, not mad at all. Its just that I don't remember the truck driver saying what he had in the back would help Alex finish the race but that what he had in the back would help give him a way out of the race. "where you get off" does sound hostile and I'm sorry, definitely wasn't my intention.

No problem - I thought it was funny!

I could be making up the words the driver said, but I remember it as being something to help him finish, which confused me when the wife showed up. The car just makes so much more sense.

I do like the idea of a truck load of Alex Tully emergency supplies following him across the country.

I've watched all three episodes and after the 2nd I was thinking that it was OK...but that it was nothing incredible. The only reason my interest held is because of the Minear/Fillion connection.

After the third episode however, I think the show is starting to find it's footing. I think there are all kinds of plot lines that could be folded into the plot if done effectively. Also, many of the characters still need to be made more impactful to the audience.

Possible Spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen the shows yet.....

I'm convinced Alex Tully was a professional get-away driver. He quit that life when a certain job went wrong and innocents were killed (which is uncool to him as he has our captain's morals). The sponsors sought him out because he was good...very good in that profession.

Between his skills and the combined vendettas of him and his partner...I assume the show will spend lots of time on unraveling the consipiracy theory of the entire race in almost an x-files fashion.

UNCOMPREHENDING

I wasn't crazy about the 2-hour episode... but I watched the Monday night ep because I really, really want to like the show (b/c of Nathan and Tim Minear) and after that bit with the car and all, I am completely hooked. My roommate and I were both screaming at the tv by the end of the episode (No! What?! It can't end now! Son of a B****!!). Don't much care for the theme song though.
Yin Yang, I just couldn't leave this alone... Alex Tulley hasn't slept in at least a day, but Jack Bauer hasn't peed in at least 2 seasons. Well at least we know Drive isn't alone in the leaving out the little things.

I really wish they had picked a better premise for this show. As it is I can't get into the show at all. The amount of suspension of disbelief required is just too great. These people must be blithering idiots to just give up their lives for an illegal race. The cops must be blithering idiots to not pull these cars over. The writers must be blithering idiots to have so many of these people stop for hours and yet still all end up getting to the checkpoints at the same time.

I don't even find myself caring about Nathan's character. We really needed to see him and his wife together to establish her character. As it stands I'm not too concerned for her. She could be an evil @#$* for all we know. Nathan's partner is extremly annoying and I'm hoping Tim sticks with his killer instincts and starts axing people. She'd be first on my list quickly followed by old dude and his daughter. The homie stereotype boy and his brother. The best character of them all is the mom. Something about her acting just makes you feel for her.

Anyway I'll keep giving it a shot until How I Met Your Mother comes back and takes over the timeslot.

I waited until I'd seen all 3 eps. before I posted, and now I have.

The biggest plus to me (besides Nathan & Tim, obviously)was the Wendy character. I've liked the actress in just about every role I've seen her in and I think this one just might be my favorite (and I even have a girlie-girl obsession with EVER AFTER)...Wendy is adorable! I also ended up liking Mal's (I mean Alex's) partner way more than I expected to.

The negatives, in my opinion, were the latino brothers (ex-con: stereotypical; preppy one: okay actor, but miscast); the father-daughter team I felt would've been enjoyable with a different actress in the part; that Wendy got out of shooting the annoying Taryn Manning character who is probably going to grate more than any of them; and finally (and I'm not sure if this is necessarily a negative or not but) that I figured out both that Corrinna was the little girl in the flashback and that Amy Acker was in the back of the semi pretty early on in each case.

Overall, I liked the show, found myself drawn in immediately and stayed hooked throughout the majority of the first two hours, then started to feel my interest slightly decreasing during the third hour. Whether or not that will continue I don't know yet, but I plan to keep watching to find out. I still adore Nathan, and I will continue to worship the ground that Tim Minear has walked on since ANGEL. But I do not feel I will ever connect to any of these characters the way I have to Joss's characters.

LADYSERENITY

okay so I had been waiting to see Drive for months since the promos started airing and the sight of Nathan on that TV screen was a beautiful thing.
So my friend (who like Firefly well enough) says hey that show Drive has Mal in it doesn't it, (after she saw a promo) Yes! I replied rather ecstatic.
I have been labeled obsessed by the way, Obsessed with Nathan Fillion, Imagine! Okay so it is true, but I only share that with priviledged parties, like you fine folks. Anyway I started watching because of Nathan and will keep watching because of Nathan but I also genuinly am enjoying this show. There is just something about fast cars driven by Nathan Fillion to get a girl's heart rate up. I caught the Early/Mal thing with surprise and my brother turned to me when we first saw Alex Tully's wife's photo. "That is Fred!" we cried together with big grins on our faces saying how cool that was. I will glady tune in again and hope that the series lasts for a while.
The whole "You want to meet the real me" thing made me grin and my mom and brother were wondering what I was thinking and I didn't enlighten them, if they don't remember where it is from, well too bad. I get labled obsessed if I open my mouth.
There was a part in the ealy part of the first episode that for some reason made me go "mmm boy" or something similar in my head. When Alex comes into the orientation conference room late and the little chairperson man is being smart with him about where his wife is. Then Alex grabs the little man's shirt and lifts him up and slams him on the table, Alex had had enough messing around. I found Alex/Nathan to be very sexy when he did that( not sure why considering all the assult going on, but hey there it is)
I like the little playing on words of the riddles and the emerging storylines and secrets of the Drivers. I will keep watching.

The chances of tracing him back to whoever is pulling the strings has got to be better than the 1-in-lots-of-people chance of winning the race (plus having to believe that the bastards who set you up in this situation are going to live up to their word).

Actually, the impression I got is that Tully is the only one coerced into the race. Most of the other racers we've met (and, I'd wager, most of those we haven't) are there voluntarily.

Besides, "disqualification" likely means death for whoever got taken. It's a hostage situation.

Cybersnark: I don't think disqualification means that the person they care for is killed. Corrina wasn't killed, remember - and her parents were just as good as disqualified. Besides, they wouldn't need to kill anybody. It's just as bad knowing that you'll never see them again.

I imagine a distinction, though, between "losing/being eliminated" (through no fault of your own) and "disqualification" (through breaking the Race's rules). Corrina's parents died, but I've seen no indication (*) that they broke any regulations or did anything untoward.

(* I've recorded the third ep, but haven't watched it yet.)

KAYNA

I love my captain

Ok, am I the only one who thinks that Wendy's new "partner" isn't what she seems. I didn't notice anything the first time I watched it but rewatched on the myspace and noticed a little slip.

When Wendy is pointeing the gun at her she says thay are making her do it and that if blondy's still in that car at the next checkpoint than she, Wendy, is out. She never says anything about a penalty. So far the only one we've seen taht seem to know about them are Wendy herself, Corinna who has previous knowledge of the race, and noncontestants. Yet blondy's exact line is "You want to make good on your penalty?" How does she know it was a penalty?

Op: You're fighting a war you've already lost.
Mal: Yeah, well I'm known for that.

SINGATE

I think we have to assume at least one of the participants is a plant. Also, before the season ends at least one of the main characters will probably be killed.

ADAPA

An additional theory that I can not take credit for is that each person(team) is sponsored by someone and that sponsor can help his team, i.e. the fake cop, charger & Tully. I apologize if this has been gone over at the top of the thread, I have not read the entire thing.

GHOULFISH

Just curious but is the guy who played Early (the bounty hunter) and the cop the same actor?

PS I like his new ride - real spiffy

CYBERSNARK

Okay, I finally watched the third ep, and I have only one thought:

Were they all sent to the drive-in to watch Serenity?

Ohhhh, that would be awesome! The beginning of the next episode:

Everybody singing along to the Ballad of Firefly. And then they get to Serenity, and they have to race to the finish line to get a sequel!
