Okay, you're probably expecting me to tell you I took a spill or that somebody gave me a "goodnight kiss".

Nope.

I just wanted to say how much I love the way Morena delivers that line. Inara is still woozy from the Mickey and has lost almost all of her Companioneque composure. She's desperately trying to hang on to her dignity while covering up the fact that she snogged the unconscious Mal.

It's just a great line and an amazing delivery. I'm astonished that the rest of the cast could keep a straight face. I guess it's because they were... acting!

End of paean.

The delivery is superb. I especially loves how she blurts it out a bit too fast, too awkward. Comedy gold.

Inara is not generally my favorite character, but she's great in "Our Mrs. Reynolds". That may be her best line in that scene but that whole scene may be her best in the show -- that and the final scene of the same episode, ending with that amazing facial expression.

That whole scene in amazing DOCOAT. I really get a kick outta Malcolms' line, "Is it Christmas? What happened about me?" as he strugles to get up. Simon and Zoey there to help him.

Inaras eye shifting tells the whole story. Even if you turn off the sound you get the drift that she's trying to hide something.

The expressions, eye movement and physical gestures tell almost half of what is going on in a scene with creators Joss and company using this tool to the upmost. I love the way Jayne blinks in near disbelief when he realizes Mal has agreed with him about needing coin in the pilot eps. Or the scene where he has an expression of confusion in the Jaynestown pub when he realizes the mudders know who he is. That look " Ok is this a good or bad thing?" has me laughing every time.

Jayne doing anything is just...excellent. But I'm biased. The 'business' with which the cast invested that show was astonishing. All in the timing.

Book popping his head back into the corridor - "The special hell."

Jayne...well, pretty much anything AB said or did. But the quick scenes in 'Safe' - thirty seconds, fifteen props, one take. Bam. "It was the best day ever."

Mal - "a s-what?" Nathan's ability to swing from hero to dork in one facial twitch.

Well that's Firefly, I don't think any show has ever had as many funny or classic one liners as Firefly has in just 1 series plus the actors pull off all of them perfectly, I couldn't name you 50 memorable quotes from the whole of Star Trek but I could name you 50 memorable quotes from Firefly...and quickly too,

It's the slurring. The way she slurs the line. It kills me every time. She's so desperate.

That and everyone's reaction to "That's why I never kiss 'em on the mouth." You know that not one person on the bridge is surprised, but you also know they just couldn't help going to a scary visual place for a second. Priceless.

I suppose she could have told everyone that she tried to give Mal mouth to mouth resuscitation when she saw him lying unconscious, but then the scene would not have been as great as it was...leave it to Joss to make it perfect.

Also, I just love Mal's line...You're a very graceful woman, Inara...it almost feels like Mal has "figured it out", but then...again...Joss throws a twist at us.

Firefly had more good acting in one episode than many shows have in an entire season.

So Firefly really ran for 14 seasons...

From Simon's facial expression I got the feeling he caught on to what really happened. He may be a bit gullible but the man can put 2 and 2 together.

Also, I still believe Mal knew what happened and was yanking Inara's chain.

Oh yeah that cast is definitely top of their game. I actually have the wav file "is it Christmas" for use with my signaling program in class and every time I hear it I smile :)

I do love the faint desperation in her voice when she says the line though...and I'd agree the others might believe her, but Simon would know

What I love about AB's delivery is that he's always serious. What he says is often very comic, but he plays Jayne completely straight...because that's what Jayne is:)

My favorite Morena moment!

"And then I fell. My head got hurt like Wash."

"I only fell is all!"

"I'm fine. I don't need to be examined."

"I'm comfy."

Morena's big brown eyes & olive skin really amplify those side-long glances!

Msg: That's the thing about ALL of Joss's work!

There are countless scenes in all his shows that make me wonder how in the world any of them ever got through it with a straight face.

The ones coming to mind right now are:

FIREFLY: Nekkid Mal.

BUFFY: Xander's Snoopy dance.

ANGEL: Wesley's "rogue demon hunter" introduction, in which still-a-big-nerd Wes is in full leather and Angel easily smacks his weapon away from him. On second thought, David Boreanaz wasn't able to stop laughing...as the editing indicated.

"In Joss We Trust."

Indeed! I was hoping that would happen in this thread. Obviously I needn't have worried.

Great pics, thanks! I just re-lived that scene. Yum! Let's see, what was it she said to Simon when he came over to help? "No, I'm fine, I'm comfy", or something like that...

Ha that whole eppisode is loaded with great lines and private interaction between differrent charactors, I love it wen Mal asks Zoe to get whash
Zoe: "This is Zoe, we need all personel to the cargo bay"
Mal: "All, I said wash!"

oh oh or washes line wen he finds out they're married
Wash: " We always hopped you to kids would get together who is she?"
Haha no pause or change of tone Brill!!
Oh and what about Inara's face as Mal walks pat after saying "only thing we got in common is we're the only ones who don't find this funny" WOW Inaras face makes it pritty clear she aint laffin!!

But the scene between Mal and inara at the end, He can't have known what realy happened, I just don't belive even Mal is stupid enough to screw things up that bad! I just love the way he walks out like hes just concured the verse, leanving a crest fallen Inara hoping he gonna turn round and say, 'I know you kissed me really,' but he don't.

Love it

I love reading the scripts!
http://www.twiztv.com/scripts/firefly/season1/firefly-103.htm

"Our Mrs. Reynolds" has perhaps the single most perfect line of description...
Quote:

EXT. SHIP - LATER

Through the space she floaty.

But another great one is after Saffron IDs herself as "Malcolm Reynolds' widow"...
Quote:

All the color drains from Inara's face. (okay, not all the color, she's from Future-Brazil so she still has a hue, but she's upset, okay?)

Ooh, and this one after Jayne's "That's why I never kiss 'em on the mouth."
Quote:

There is a moment for everyone's extreme silent horror.

But I had a moment of extreme non-silent horror when I saw this...
Quote:

MAL: Only a few places that shuttle could make it to from where you left. Happy to find it intact. You always work for Elder Gommen?

SAFFRON: I work with lots of folk. He's thrown me a few choice fish. What'll become of the dear Elder?

MAL: Oh, he'll be laying eyes on me soon enough. And to think I saved his town from vicious bandits.

The Elder was in on it?!

Screen capture on an iMac: Shift-Apple-3 Press all 3 keys at the same time.

HOWEVER, if you are playing a copy protected DVD, this will not work. You have to get a 3rd party app for that. You can rip a copy and strip off the DRM with "Mac The Ripper" and take screen captures from your copy - or - there is some shareware out there that will fit the bill. One I have tried is Snap X Pro. Go to www.tucows.com and search around a bit.

NOTE: These are instructions for system 10.3.9 - not sure if there are changes for 10.4

SAVEWASH

Now I am learning about scary.

My s.o. is one of those "Firefly-is-okay-but-I-don't-see-why-you're-so-worked-up-about-it" people who still found plenty to like about "Our Mrs. Reynolds." The other evening we were watching an episode of "Star Trek: Enterprise" where Captain Archer rescued a fragile maiden from a backward planet and was charmed by how shy & innocent she was. My s.o. said, "So, she's a Mrs. Reynolds." And it turned out to be true! I was amazed at the Firefly reference from someone who's apparently not a fan at all. Ha! Can't fool me.

Hello SaveWash:

I'm not surprized. I bet there are loads of closet Firefly fans.

Secret stashes of DVD's hidden behind the sofa.

No one suspects the sofa.

And the look on Simon's face tells me he knew Inara was lying through her teeth. He knows she didn't knock her head. Love the eye movement. Inara looks so innocent. Like a small child.
