Hi all.

I have started a new play by message board RPG game based on Firefly but set up for original characters. Haven't had much luck recruiting openly on Irony Games and the like so I figured this would be the place to do it.

So if any and all interested folks please come take a look:

Can these RPG games be somewhat automated? Is there something that I can build on this site that'll allow for easier play and DMing should FFF.NET host one of these RPG games?

Are there websites like that?

I can figure out the "how" if you can show me specific examples.

I dont know about most people on here but to me most of the fun of RPGs is actually being in the same room with people and interacting. RPGs have been a big part of my social life for way to long. :) Typing in what my char does just doesnt hold the same appeal. Sorry.

I am not worried about the bullet with my name on it. Just the thousands marked "Occupant".

Agreed. RPG's are supposed to be social - otherwise just play a video game.

Yeah, but what if it's MUD-like.

I don't know if it's the type of automation you are talking about, but there are free programs out there that everyone can download and run, connecting through the server, so you have mapping, chat, character sheets, etc. to use, as well as DM tools. There are several, but the one I use is jopenrpg (java program, works in windows, various linux, and mac). http://jopenrpg.sourceforge.net/

I have it on fairly good authority that the programmer writing it would love some more people to use it and give feedback, and he is more than willing to make changes and customizations as need for various game systems.

For those of you that are interested in a long-term Fireflyverse RPG, I would like to remind you all of the Firefly Sock Puppet Theatre. It's an ongoing, expanded universe, where you may either adopt a cannon character, or propose a new character from the 'verse. Bear in mind, many of the cannon characters are still available for adoption, many of them on the Serenity crew.

For more information, feel free to e-mail or IM me, or go here: http://firefly.irev.net/

I've been to your sock puppet theater, and I don't get it. It's like what would happen if every major and minor character from Firefly kept a LiveJournal, but none of them were connected, made any sense, or were interesting in any way.

Thank you for checking us out. We're always happy to receive criticism in order to improve, especially constructive criticism. A good example of constructive criticism would be: "I'm not really sure what you meant by ____" or "I’m not sure how this _____ connects with this ____, or am I missing something?" Furthermore, it is always helpful when you correctly identify the site with which you are referring. For example, we no longer operate at Live Journal, but have since moved to Greatest Journal. Are you perhaps referring to our older posts?

And as for your points, yes, most of our writing is done in the form of journal entries, but we also write in the form of RPs and letters and news articles. All of our writers work together on our storylines through a community posting board and AIM, so our journals DO interconnect. While each "actor" plays their own character, we all work with the understanding that there's a larger plot to be advanced.

Perhaps you were confused because you were unfamiliar with out plotlines. It's true that we've been operating for a while now, and have since deviated from the show considerably. A great deal happens in a year! If you would like clarification on specific plot points, I welcome any e-mails or instant messages.

Thank you again for checking us out and for your suggestions. I can assure you that we will all give your comments their due attention.
