I have all my BUFFY, ANGEL, FIREFLY and SERENITY DVD's seperated from all others...on top of an entertainment center in my bedroom I bought just to be able to set them up like this. With them is a special "Once More With Feeling" DVD I bought off Ebay before the DVD's of that season came out, the "Why BUFFY Matters" book, the "Finding Serenity" book, "Done the Impossible" DVD, "Joss Whedon: Master at Play" DVD (introduction by Nathan Fillion), and two pics of Joss right in front of everything, one of which features a line of his about him creating BUFFY to be an icon, to be loved the way most shows can't be loved--which I laminated myself because I "needed" it.

I have many, many other things (books, calendars, magazines, posters, CDs, etc.), most of which I stored away because of lack of space.

I find this more disturbing than having a "whedon shrine" at 31.

I wouldn't say arranging your dvds in this way weird at all.

On the "plus" side, I sold my Buffy and Angel action figures for $275 last year! Mostly because I needed the cash. The other stuff I no longer have up, but I still can't bear to part with it (like the "Once More With Feeling" full-size poster) even though I have no space for them.

I hope not. I'm pushing 42 and my Serenifly shrine takes up an entire bookshelf. And things are still hidden behind other things.

Ok, I'm glad to hear the consensus is that this is perfectly sane and normal behavior... cuz I am 50 and my Serenifly collection takes up three book shelves beside my desk and I have figures and dinos across the top of my desk with the model of Serenity in the middle.

My office is now decorated ( it's messy so it's hard to tell that this is the intention ) Chinese style with lanterns, dragons and fans on the wall. My bamboo plant takes up one whole corner of the top of my desk. I also have my beloved little Buddha from B3 in a place of honor right in front of me. Every computer I own has Mal as the wallpaper. I am literally surrounded as I type by Firefly/Serenity.

My to do list for the 'Verse is longer than my to do list for my house.

So.. obsessed..? Naw..Firefly is life and happiness.

There, right there, the example of the term FAN(atic). I have my Firefly DVD's mixed up with lots of different DVD's, and I think my one of my brothers has my Serenity movie. I guesse I've never been that hardcore for Whedon. Although I'd love me the Serenity figurine for the Xmas tree.

I really hope not considering today is my 31st birthday! I am not upset about turing 31 today, but if someone tells me I have to give up my love of all things Joss then maybe I should be sad! :)

DaisyDana: As someone older (I was born four hole days before you!), I'd like to wish you a slightly belated Happy Birthday!

I also forgot to mention that I also have with my DVD's, the original BUFFY movie DVD and the VHS of the unaired BUFFY pilot, also bought on Ebay.

How many 31ers do we have here?!?! I'm of that fine age too. Is there some sort of special power drawing people of that wonderful age here..... or is it more likely I'm having some sort of paranoid conspiracy moment.

Is it weird that I spemd inordinate amounts of time on the computer talking to strangers at the age of 43?

Is it weird that my toe is still purple?

Is it weird that trolls have rolly polly bellies and hair that sticks straight up?

Yes. It is weird. You are a very strange man/woman/herme. Spend a day with me and I'll show you a lot of things you probably find pretty weird too. Spend a day in my head and you'll never look at life or the world the same again.

If you weren't weird, you'd probably be just like everyone else, and since there's just no getting around the fact that most people suck, I can't imagine any reason you would even try to strive for "normalcy". Joss hasn't hidden the way he generally feels about people himself, if I can take some people's sig's that are his quotes as legitimately from the man's mouth.... Something about killing his characters because he doesn't like people comes to me now.

Conformity is some scary and weird shit. It is not natural and that is why tensions are high in this world now. We've gone global virtually overnight and we're subconsiously rejecting the notion of blanket conformity but are bound by law to be tolerant of everything. Nobody wants to get fired or lose thier family and all their stuff for saying what's on their mind. Think about the wars that have started over religions imposing their way of thinking on other people through history, just as the behavioral adjusting laws are being imposed on us today. Just look back a few weeks ago at all the flack that Hardaway got for saying what he thought about gays. I'm not saying I agree with the man, in fact, I think that as long as the sex is concentual and between adults I don't care what anybody does as long as I don't have to see it or hear about it. Ain't none of my business. I do find myself admiring the size of those balls he must have for saying the truth instead of lying and giving the PC answer that everyone would find acceptable, even after he was given an out to change or retract his statements. I'm sure gays hate Hardaway too, so everybody wins.

If Firefly ever became the number one rated show and had 50 Million viewers a week, it would be 50 Million viewers, minus one. I would never watch it again. I find everything that the majority of the masses find enjoyable to be utterly creepifying. I love my little outcast show that could.

So.... you get down with your weird ass, Joss-worshiping self, ya freak. I'd think a lot less of ya if you were doing it becasue you were part of a club of Joss Worshipers who strived to have the biggest Joss Shrine in the world. I think it's pretty cool, in a weird way.

I don't think of it as a shrine, per se. It's just that I have a whole shelf by my computer, on which I keep my Firefly OVC part 1, my Serenity OVC, Finding Serenity, the BDM novel, my DVD's (BDM and series), a copy of Killer Angels, Serenity:TLB, and my own notebooks (seven at last count) along with a special selection of cd's that I feel contain the right inspirational music.

It's research. I'm a writer. I'm entitled.

The fact that I own a natty pair of boots and a long brown suede coat which I frequently wear is immaterial.

And I'm the same age as Nathan, so.

Penguin, you are too cute and shiny! I love the mini Jayne hats!

I, too have many Firefly books, DVD, pictures, etc. all grouped together on my shelves. I've got a similar thing going with all of my LOTR stuff, too -- and I'm 49. Just proves that Browncoats come in all ages!

Agreed. (I'm May of '64. )

BTW--did you get some chocolate yet?

And now for the subject at hand. No it's not weird. Heck, the Cult of Joss was formed by folks who were a bit older than that about 10 years ago.
