It's been a while since I've had a real conversation about or pertaining to the Firefly verse. With that in mind, I want this thread to stay related to the verse. Randomness happens, I know that well, but can we try to stay a little on topic?

Alright, so what to discuss...er...I didn't think that far ahead. I probably should have, huh. Okay, I can do this. *channels Chrisisall* A list! No. I'm not Chrisisall. *tries channeling everyone she can think of* This isn't working. I'm not them. I'm not Ric or Tash or Ebo...I'm me. I can do this. *deep breath*

Assuming our story continues...Serenity keeps flying and the allied worlds tremble a bit but ultimately hold steady. Who is the next person gone? I don't mean killed, because I think the next person to leave won't leave because of death. Who gets off the boat next? Does Mal retire? Will Zoe want a more secure lifestyle? Does Inara find she misses the refined things? Will Jayne double-cross everyone? Does Kaylee find a new ship or a safe harbor? Will Simon and River make a new path and will it be together? Does...Will...Does...somebody help me!

Any thoughts?

Other than, 'you're crazy twg.'

okay my imaginings go like this:
the next movie would be centered around Blue Sun, the huge mega-corporation which has control over most of the Alliance and profited hugely from the war (like Haliburton)
The movie will have all kinds of flash backs of Book, who had been involved in the corruption at high levels
at the same time Zoe will be going through a crisis, she will have lost her meaning in life and she will be the one who is suffering existential angst...
with lots of dream sequences involving Wash...

Mal on the other hand will be moving toward happiness w/Inara, and Inara secrets (why she left to travel on the edge) will come out...and the moment they find true happiness she will suffer a painful horrible death.

Or Simon will kick off...
maybe both (because Joss is cruel)

Gah...not more death. Not my Simon! Can't someone just, you know, get in their van and drive away...heh.

I do see a very trying time ahead for Zoe. She's spent too many years in a dark place. Fighting and struggling next to a man that was more damaged than she. Then for a brief time she had a rudder. I'm not sure if she'll stay on course now. Poor Zoe.

When you're lacking something you don't always know it until you've found it and are lacking it once more. I think she may see a void in the lifestyle.

oh you know that Joss has a rule against the happy couples... once Simon & Kaylee hooked up you knew they were doomed....
the only way Simon can live is by turning evil!
Hey, now THERE's an idea! Now that River is doing better Simon may decide to take off and be a wealthy surgeon.
Anyway I am just assuming the deaths because it is what we all know about Joss:

SIMONWHO

Assuming Firefly ran forever, this is my order for characters to die:

Book
Wash
Simon
Inara
Jayne
Mal
Kaylee
Zoe
River

Simon's toast though. Can't see him making it through any sequel.

I know Kaylee and Simon are doomed. There's no way Joss will allow that relationship to continue. And I agree Simon has a good chance of biting it...but this is about who will leave because no one's dying...bwahahaha.

Simon is up next to leave the boat, dead or alive...hopefully alive. I like the idea of him going evil or being corrupted. He doesn't read people well. I can see him manipulated with the right words...betraying the crew before he realizes it.

Well, Mal and Kaylee will never leave Serenity , unless it's feet first.

I could see Zoe taking Maternity leave, if she's pregnant, but she'd come back. Her loyalty to Mal is a lifetime committment.

Jayne could leave at the drop of a ( cunning ) hat- just wave some cash under his nose, and a clear sense that he wouldn't be betraying Mal.

Simon and River are now more tightly bound to Serenity-- got no other option unless the Alliance gave them some kinda pardon that could be trusted. Don't see that comin'.

Inara could go or stay, dependng on how she worked out her Mal vs. career conflict.

As of the role of Joss- yeah, I could see him clobbering either Simon or Kaylee-- he's a nasty man. :<)

hmm- see I was thinking Zoe would buy it next as that'd be most unstabling for the crew...mind you I still want to know where we got this boat:)

If we're going by character personalities alone and if we set aside the possibility of violent death, I would say River would be the next to leave... and without her big brother.

I'm basing that notion on the fact that the BDM left River significantly improved in the brain pan. She may not be entirely normal, and she clearly still has her psi abilities. But she's obviously normal-er. And I expect she may come to find life aboard a transport pretty limiting. She is, after all, an ultra-genius. How can she ever live up to her potential on Serenity?

Simon, meanwhile, will find his life quite different now that he doesn't have to spend every waking moment looking after his crazy sister. He has a woman in his life, too. Since Kaylee is unlikely to give up her dream job, I think she and Simon will stay aboard Serenity for some time to come. River will move on, perhaps first to some University in the core.

Or not...

If I had to guess I'd say Zoe because of her recent trauma. Kaylee won't leave because she loves the crew/ship, Mal won't leave because Serenity is his life, Inara might leave for little bits but she wants to be with Mal to much to stay away, Simon and River might leave IF the Alliance actually gives up on them, otherwise they are in it for the long haul, Jayne might leave if the price is right but I think he likes it on Serenity. So my guess is Zoe, second guess is Simon and River (Simon won't leave without River ad if she left he would follow).

Nathan has said that when Serenity does continue, he wants Mal killed off, so that no one else gets to play the character. Other than that, I have no idea who will leave next. Maybe Kaylee will go, and force the others to step of the boat, 'cause she's the only one who can keep Serenity running!

MANWITHPEZ

Important people don't do field work.

I think Simon has a very rooted reason to stay on the boat. Of course, I'm not certain how long he and Kaylee would last, but it would cement him long enough for River to become indispensible and not want to leave. And, even though she's fine now, I don't think the doctor in residence could stand to leave her. Not after everything he's seen and done on that ship...The hurts he's repaired, etc.

Zoe, I think is also not going anywhere. It's going to be rough for her, but, I think she'd overcome. I think this is illustrated best by the scene where she repairs the hole that the Reaver Spike came though to kill Wash. The principle of freedom is still in her, and Serenity represents that. As does Mal. So, I think she's staying.

Inara has been back into the world she left, and I got the idea (mostly from a deleted scene) that she wasn't happy, or it wasn't sitting right. If things were to work out with her and Mal, would she be able to give up being a Companion? There might be more than a little trouble there. (I don't mean the whoring either. I mean the elevated social status that a Companion carries.)

Kaylee. She's more problematic. She's in love with that ship. She's in love with Simon. Both are apt to give her trouble. She's proved that she's a bit touchy in regards to Simon's upbringing and habits. Especially in the way he talks. I don't see Kaylee leaving (even if Simon does) unless there was some kind of miracle onboard, and Serenity no longer needed her.

Mal ain't going anywhere.

Who does that leave?

Jayne Cobb. I think Jayne Cobb, had the show continued, would have ended up being a big bad. Was Book headed in that direction? I hope not, his comments in River's head in Objects aside. This is not something I've just conjured up. I've been making these noises since I first joined this site way back...uh...I can't remember anymore. I think Jayne, eventually discovering that he actually COULD handle this business on his own, would take the opportunity. And then end up head to head with Mal. Now that movie has come out (and, was it just me, or did Serenity present a more "user-friendly" Jayne than we were used to seeing?) I don't know.

But, I'm sticking with Jayne. Problems at home with his brother and mother, big money elsewhere, the chance to lead...he'd jump at any of them.

In my opinion.

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Well we lost two in Serenity, so I don't think anyone will go until Serenity III. (here's hoping it'll get that far - fingers very tightly crossed!) I'd actually imagine somebody new coming aboard for Serenity II.

Dunno 'bout that, sounds a bit too much like a main character in a Certain Other TV Series...

Jayne goes back to Canton and leads a revolt against Boss Higgins. Settles there, but still guests once in a while as he develops his own little criminal empire.

I'd like to see a scene where business takes Serenity to a landing on Jayne's home world. We get to meet Ma Cobb, who turns out to be a lovely generous soul, who prepares a meal for the crew with HUGE portions all round. Jayne reverts to being a total "mother's boy" in her presence, much to the amusement to the rest of the crew. This is also where we get to find out just why he has a girl's name... In relation to my above post, maybe it's Jane's brother Matthew who comes aboard as he's landed a job with Blue Sun and needs to travel to one of the core worlds, which would peeve River somewhat.
