Well, it's official... I'm entering into the 'nothing left to watch' depression

WHIPLASH4EVER

I watched "Objects in Space" Friday afternoon and then popped in Serenity... AGAIN. Now I have nothing to look forward to but the slim hope that Joss or one of his people can get something done to get the Firefly series back on the air.

Forgive me, for I am no wordsmith. My thoughts get jumbled a bit when trying to talk about this sort of thing, but let me give it a shot here.

Because I saw Serenity first, I found myself coping with the death's of certain stars from the TV series a little easier than many of you who watched from the beginning. I have to say too, that I was a little disappointed in the first actual story in Firefly. "TV" Serenity was good. It set the table so to speak. However, The Train Job was a little disappointing with its lack luster and predictable story line. Especially after watching the quality job of the two Serenity's. With that said, let me say this too... the series continued to get better as it went along. It's so much better than anything I have seen in a long, long time. Everything is so good, from the music to the acting to the scripts to the dialog to the character development to their complicated interaction with each other. Maybe it was as Joss said and that, knowing the series could be cancelled at any given moment, it forced them to write that much better. Whatever the case, I see why you as fans have fought so hard to keep this show on the air and then later, to get it back on the air. I fide it mind boggling that they can't find it a home somewhere on the vast network of options that cable/dish offers. Hell, if HBO can air a piece of shit show like Arli$$ for 6 years, surely they'd jump at the chance to air a quality show like Firefly which already has a built in fan base. They could even re-air the episodes already shot at very little cost to them before getting into new stories.

Have you tried Buffy or Angel? They are both helmed by Joss and have contributions from much of the Firefly team as well.

I wish I could recommend something similar but Firefly is one of a kind. But if you want another to be mad at Fox, check out Arrested Development.

It's only a movie, and not Firefly-related, but Joss did make Titan A.E.. There's some Whedonesque SF goodness.

You can watch it all again from the start!

I usually watch one time through without the commentaries, and the next time through with.

TRAVELER

There are shows you can see. One I recommend is Wonderfalls. More in the lines of fantasy then Scifi. And it is a comedy instead of a drama. But it is funny. A young woman with no ambition, in a nowhere job is pushed to do good deeds despite selfish way of life.

Just as in Firefly the universe is vast with exceptional shows and movies to explore. Be adventurous and hunt for the obscure and you will find gems like these hidden in the far reaches of the TV / Movie universe.

Half the fun is in the search. Asking others what the have found. You would be surprised.

Hello WHIP,

So you're done with the show.... well you don't have to be done with the show. Watch the series again. I'm pretty sure that you'll see things the next go-round that you didn't see before. I've seen each eps about 20 times and I still see new things. Anyway try watching it with your family (ie, pop, mom, brothers, sisters) or friends. It really is a lot of fun watching the expression on someone face when something totally unexpected happens. I was a bit dissatpointed with TTJ eps too at first but watching a second and third time had me realize that the eps is quiet good.

Jayne Cobb "Know what the chain of comand is? It's a chain I go get and beat you with till you understand who's in ruttin charge here!!"

I love that line and "The Train Job" is where we get the big clues that Jayne may be have joined the crew just to take over the ship for himself.

I like the town sheriff too. don't recall the actors name but he also is in the movie SLITHER. He is pretty good. He had me feeling sorry for the whole town.If you break the eps down into parts you may see that it is very good.

Niska " You don't like that I kill this man? My wifes nephew. At dinner I be getting an earfull but there is no getting around that."

Anyway you can hunt the threads and find discussions on every eps or start new ones of your own. You'll see that we love analizing each eps. We'll break it down to the nitty-gritty if you want.

Well that's about it for me.

See ya, Z

Well for one I am taking a little break from watching FF and Serenity...yeah I know...'The Horror!"

Went to watching some Anime. Yamato, Arcadia...a bunch of Matsumoto stuff with a little Crusher Joe thrown in there.

I'll probably start back up with FF in a few weeks.

'Aliens4' is worth a look. Spot the genesis of Serenity in the crew...Also 'Toy Story'. Then watch 'Unforgiven' for a change of pace, or maybe 'Maverick' for a lighter take.

Roam the Blue Sun Room. In amongst the, er, items there, you might find something to your taste.

And check out some of the Firefly fanvids on YouTube. A mix and match take on some episodes with the music can give a whole new slant on how you see things.

I took some time out, read the new C J Cherryh, watched some CSI, and I've come back all refreshed.

I took me a year, but I finally "remembered" to watch Firefly with the Commentaries....they were great. Also in my own personal effort to keep Firefly forever fresh I utilze a rotation...watch the 14 episodes, watch the movie, watch the Done The Impossible DVD, watch the series w/ commentaries, and then I always have my Firefly "file" slideshow which is filled with about 500 pictures downloaded from all over the web. This can usually occupy my Firefly need for about a month...so far, so good....never boring, never even predictable ( despite dozens of viewings), always love it.

MAVOURNEEN

Whip,

I recently just finished watching the whole series with the French subtitles. It was most amusing knowing a line was coming and then hearing it in French...And seeing Mal talking and hearing a different voice is fun, too. Oh, the things one does.

Check out other things ff flans are into.

Wonderfalls
Dead Like Me (2 seasons worth!)
Dark Angel
Buffy / Angel (I prefer Angel, personally)

The flan vids on youtube are a good suggestion. Have you read Finding Serenity? How about The Existential Joss Whedon? The Visual Companion?

Have you read the unaired Firefly script Dead or Alive?

I suggest -Buffy, Angel, Roswell and Dark Angel. Once done with those, start again with Firefly.
