Does anyone have any stories of how they came to own a Firefly DVD?. This is my story of how I came to own a Firefly DVD.

I wanted the Firefly Season 1. So 3 months passed and someone asked me what I wanted for xmas and I told them I wanted Firefly Season 1. So, on xmas day I opened a xmas present and guess what the present was? The present was Firefly Season 1 DVD... I was really surprised. When I tried to open the DVD case, the case would not open and I noticed there was a picture of a red lock in the inside of the case. I took the DVD to a rental video store. The rental video store assistant said The Firefly DVD was security locked. The rental video store assistant said the store the DVD had been bought from had forgotten to unlock the security lock on the DVD. The Firefly DVD was purchased from a store 300km away. So, I waited for a month before a trip back to the 300km away place. When 300km away store tried to open the box, they couldn't open the box. The store didn't have any more Firefly DVD's in stock. The store said they would give me a refund. When I got the refund I travelled 300km home and then purchased a copy of Firefly from another store.

I would have went to work on it with a blow torch and a circular saw if that's what it took.

Glad you finally got to watch you DVD.

That's quite a tale! Unfortunately, I just went down to Wal-Mart to get my first set.

I wish I had a story like that. :D

I (never having seen it before) was reluctant to spend $40 on it, so I waited until Target marked it down to $20 and then I snatched it up...and it sat on my shelf for another 2 months before I got around to watching it. Although, in the past 2 weeks I have watched it twice.

I watched a couple of episodes at a friend's house, saw Serenity, and went and bought the Firefly DVDs the next day.

That was a year and a half ago or so, and I watch Firefly all the time still, just rewatched almost all of it last week

Firefly was a simple impulse buy for me. I saw it was on sale at Target. I didn't even know what a Firefly was. But it was on sale and it was the complete first season. What can I say? I'm a sucker for sales! So I bought it and it also stayed on my shelf for a couple of weeks. Then I saw Serenity. Then the rest is history!

On sale today at Target today for $19.99!

Did my guerilla marketing duty and put it next to 24, on the top (eye level) shelf.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'm one of the lucky ones (or is it unlucky, still not sure which) who watched Firefly during its run on F*X. Pre-ordered the dvds as soon as they were made available on amazon.com and got them just a couple of days after release, in early December 2003. I've lost count, but I'm sure I have watched them all at least twenty times by now. The best television show ever created, and I don't think I'm going to change my mind about that anytime soon.

I had also watched on Fox...and managed to video tape all the aired episodes (in the wrong order, of course)
I made the mistake of asking for the DVDs for Christmas, because that meant I actually had to wait until Christmas (I really wanted to run out and get them for myself and to see the unaired episodes)
but I was patient,
my brother (who gave me the DVD set) watched them with me between Christmas and New Years and then wished he had his own set....

I've already given sets of the DVDs to almost everyone I know, I can't even think of anyone else to get them for at this point....

Wal-Mart doesn't sell Firefly around here! They also have Serenity nearly hidden most of the time...I always figured that they thought the Alliance/Blue Sun was too similar to them and they didn't want it to get out...but maybe that's just my Wal-Mart then. Yeah, I had to go to Target to get mine.

KAELE

My dad tried to get me to watch Firefly when it was first out. I was always busy on Friday nights then, but managed an episode or two. I had wanted to see Serenity when it came out because it looked awesome, but never got a chance to see it in theaters.

Fast Forward to 2005. My mom purchased Firefly for him for Christmas. I knew he had wanted to see Serenity in the theater and it had *just* come out on DVD. I bought it for him, and didn't the PIA mention it to me the very next day?! It was all I could do to keep my mouth closed.

Christmas day he opened his series from mom, came over my house and got his movie.

(I'm getting to my part here...)

New year's rolls around and I had plowed through all my gifts and asked if I could borrow Serenity from him. He told me to take the series AND movie with instructions to watch the series first. I think it took two days for me to finish everything. I couldn't stop watching. Once that first episode finished and Crow went sailing through the engine, I KNEW this was something special. It was not your typical sci-fi series. (and I've seen LOTS) I think I watched everything three times before I handed it back to him.

Hubby's birthday was mid-January and since he had enjoyed it too, my parents got him Firefly. Two days later, I was so very naughty and bought Serenity for our house despite money being a little tight after the holidays.

Sometime later last year, a VERY generous lady who goes by OldFogey on serenitymovie.org purchased me a spare set of DVDs as well as some other goodies. Those DVDs now reside at my friends' house and I doubt I'm getting them back. LOL But they are doing their work and are slowly making those friends into Browncoats the more they watch.

I saw the Serenity at my brother's house. The next day I went to the store and bought Firefly, and I next to never buy series on dvd, too expensive + I am used to downloading tv series off the internet. After watching Serenity I knew that I had to support the show financially.
While I haven't seen the series 20 times I think it is an excellent show, so much so that I came here, and I never watched and have no plans to see the last episode on the dvd(In the order it shows). If I watched it then there will be no more Firefly, the realization will sink and...and I just can't handle that. No show has ever had that effect on me.
