I watch Battlestar Galactica, and while it is a first-class show in every way, it doesn't quite fill the void that the crew of the Serenity has left with many sci-fi fans... Personally, I have always felt that Joss would find a way to bring back the Crew--on the big screen, or better-yet, on the a network. This optimism has been driven by the passion evident in the fan base, and documentaries such as "Done the Impossible."
So my question is this: Given the lack of any word of a Serenity/Firefly future...Does anyone truely think that the world Joss created will go on? And if so, why?

I think it will go on someday.

Why?....Because it's just too damn good to never return again. It may take time, but I honestly believe we'll get either a movie sequel, or something on TV.

I would really like to share your optimism, but being the old dude that I am, I can speak from experience – and the experience I’ve had is that the good things never last. Usually it’s the woefully bad, dull, vile, insipid, stupid and utterly un-watchable, programming that stays around way too long. Whoever said television is a vast wasteland (Newton Minow?)… well he was certainly right. We should be very thankful that once in awhile, if only for a short time, we are lucky enough to have a piece of work as well done as Firefly. I would be surprised if it ever flies again, but if it does, I’ll dust off the old set and watch every episode as often as possible.

Not trying to be a downer – just facing facts. Whatever happens, everyone here knows what a treasure those 14 episodes were, not to mention one very fine movie, and no one can take that away from us.

endeavor to preserver……..

In comics...otherwise, I'm skeptical.

In comics, books maybe, I'll buy the possiblity of another movie, I would be shocked and suprised (in a good way)to get the series back.

I think nighttime is dark so you can imagine your fears with less distraction.

I agree with this idea of guarded optimism...while safe in the the knowledge that Serenity fans got to spend somewhere around 14.5 hours exploring the verse'...
As for your belief that T.V plays second fiddle to the big screen, i have to disagree. In fact i saw a video on youtube (sorry don't have the link) but it was an interview with George "Jar-Jar" Lucas, in which he talked his upcoming Star Wars T.V series...and he makes a good point. Movies are becoming such a gamble in today's market; if your movie doesn't crush the box office, then that's it...ballgame....millions down the drain. now look at show's like Lost, 24, and Heroes, they're all movie quality, but have the added benefit of a longer window in which to be discovered by viewers. T.V is definately changing for the better. And it's my opinion that had Firefly been created a few years later, it would still be flying strong. So lets just hope that Star Wars the series does well, and that Joss is given another chance to prove he had it right all along

I think we have a couple more years of it even being possible, after that all of the actors will look to old, and then our best hope would be that someday they make a spin-off of it set in the same universe. having said that, i completely understand why it got canceled sad to say, i have shown it to most of my friends, and every body i have shown it to loves it, but that's the thing, most of my friends are like me and have more or less given up on the hope of decent television, so when a show like firefly comes along, it gets canceled before we ever even knew it existed.

again the reason i love joss whedon's work is the same reason much of it isn't successful. if you view tv and movies as a new form of artwork, then the problem is apparent, great art is generally only great to a certain percentage of people, while good art is good to most people, hollywood isn't interested in producing great art, just making money. in other words, he doesn't appeal to the middle, which sadly is more interested in 9 year olds making vague jokes about puberty.

As far as network TV, I think it is probably dead. I still think that there is a very good chance we can get another movie, especially with Joss not making WW anymore. We will get more comics, and that new online game. Not the same thing I admit, but it's still the verse.
