I'm okay with there not being aliens in Firefly, but I really don't like what Joss said about how he didn't think there were aliens in our universe. I think it is naive to believe there aren't "intelligent" extraterrestrial beings out there, but I think they're mostly likely so far away that we are never going to make contact with them.

And if we did, they would be nothing like the aliens in movies, and we most likely would have to expand what we consider to be "living."

i loved no aliens in the show, in fact one of the things i loved about the show was that it stayed true to everything we know about science and common sense, that being said, w/ out faster than lite travel *which they didn't have in the show* the probability of us encountering aliens let alone sentient aliens would be extremely minute, especially only 500 years in the future. and in fact in the show they didn't even have faster than lite communications, *which bugged me when they did in the movie*

not saying there aren't any aliens out there, just that we probably aren't going to find them w/ in a maximum radius of 500 lite years from earth, which would imply that we could build ships that would reach nearly the speed of lite right away.

ps i wanted to clap when i watched firefly at my buddies house on dvd, and i realized there was no sound in space, i have since bought it, and never even knew about it until long after it was canceled.

I think you should choose a better word than naive. Neither side has enough evidence to provide a credible case, and all the arguing in the world just ends up as an appeal to ignorance. I happen to agree with Joss, but I understand those who believe differently.

On "Serenity"'s commentary (the pilot, not the movie) Joss and Tim joke about aliens as people who might be a little different, like speaking with a strange accent, like a South African accent.

I've always found that funny....comparing South Africans to aliens.

He must have been here recently....
