So I'm in a computer lab and had to google search for fff.net instead of having it just pop up whenever I open a new browser window and saw something that caught my eye. Fourth or fifth search result down I saw a livejournal post citing EW about Joss declaring the end of all things Firefly. The link is here: http://community.livejournal.com/fireflyfans/508478.html

Is this complete crap? Did I miss something? Where did this come from?????

With a lot of guerilla marketing going on every day, new comics coming out, and dozens of new browncoats joining up everyday I don't see how this could be true. I mean...I didn't go on any vacation from the internet recently, how did I miss this???

Does anyone know anything about this? THe post is more than a year old...

EW misreported. Joss posted on Whedonesque about it at the time saying they put words in his mouth, which he didn't - you know - say.

Whoisriver had it right; Joss did not declare the end...he straightened it out on the Whedonesque board ...

Yeah and the reasons that they said couldn't be right. Joss has said time and time again that he wasn't ready to let go of Firefly yet, and he probably wouldn't stop due to a small amount of viewers. Why would he have continued with Firefly in the first place then?? And also there are new fans coming every day just like you said. It's obvious that it isn't true.

Thanks for clearing that up everyone! I didn't think it was over and didn't think Joss would say that. I was just surprised how high up it was on my google search. Thanks again!

First things first :

"Love keeps her in the air when she outta fall down, tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home."

I thought it was keens: definintion - To wail in pain, express grief verbally.
But I suppose it could be keels : to careen, lurch, reel, or stagger.

Now to the point. Joss has said since then that he would be happy to make more movies as the studio has expressed interest in this (if the first was successful) but that no studio wanted to agree to put money towards continuing the series. Therefore he was going to try to tell the rest of Firefly's story through two more movies (god willing) and graphic novels (or comics).

Its not over until WE say its over, people! And as long as we are interested, the suits will try to grab our dollar.

Just because we lost don't mean we're on the wrong side.

Ah, the pitter patter of tiny feet in huge combat boots... SHUT UP!!!

More importantly here than the fact that this is a misquote, I would think that the 'verse has taken on a life of its own and I submit that it doesn't even need Joss anymore.

If it's not an announcement about another season or BDM, who cares what he has to say about it now anyhow? It might have been his baby, but he's all but abandoned it. If Firefly were a human child, you can bet your ass the DCFS would have already had numerous complaints.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

6ixString, I have to respectfully disagree with you.

The Firefly / Serenity universe is Joss's baby, always has been and always will be. Period. He loves this 'verse and the characters he created, he's said it publically and the cast has confirmed that fact. You don't abandon things you love, but sometimes other things pull you away. That is what is going on right now; Joss is busy with other things. I am willing to bet though that not a day goes by that he doesn't think about Firefly or getting our girl in the air again.

There is the next limited series comics coming out that Joss is writing. That doesn't sound like he has abandoned us to me. Like us he is probably waiting on dvd sales figures to see how the BDM has done. My guess is they are also waiting to see how the Stargate SG1 direct to dvd movies ("Arc of Truth" & "Continuim") do when they are released. I have no doubt that Joss is considering all options for continuing the story.

You've got to have faith. Some of us have been here a long time. Me, I have been on this site for four years and a browncoat longer than that. If I can be patient, so can you.

For me two of the most interesting recent comments Joss made regarding Firefly were
1) he love love loved tv
2) Serenety didn't heal the hurt of firefly being canceled.

I personaly take a great deal of hope from these comments. To my mind it's not a matter of 'if' but when.
