The following is just one tiny example from United Press International, which I've seen sited in other medical journals that I get at work:

Interesting article. Glad I don't have MS
If you get brave enough, you can find this stuff at Wild Oats, Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage, or any health food store you might have in your area. Do research (and now I know you love that, so it shouldn't be a problem) and talk to a naturopathic doctor if you can find one. Oh, and have a really clean diet for at least four days before you start anything, or you'll feel really sick.
Speaking of feeling sick, I did the liver cleanse today (olive oil and grapefruit juice and not to be done before parasites are dead, for those interested) and I feel horrible right now. Guess not all my parasites were dead. That or I have an incredibly toxic liver for a 22 year old who doesn't drink.
Brain still not functioning right. I will miss my jie jie
I hope MsG has a better week next time
And that's how long my attention span is right now. Luv and hugs and kisses to any who want them!

Hmmmmm, live to 120...
Hadn't thought about that. Was really just trying to get rid of the issues I have now. However, if I do live to 120, I want to be a healthy 120 without toxic leaches living in my joints and intestines.
That just sounds gross and feels worse.
Oh yeah, and a clean liver too, I suppose. Clean liver means much better overall health (and an easier time losing weight...) and stuff.
Mainly I don't want to be my grandma. It's very likely the woman has lost her mind, and she certainly has major joint problems. However, aside from that she's got such a strong constitution she could easily live another 20 years. What a nightmare.
Wow, I'm not meaning to be a downer here, really...

There's something my grandfather once told me, about how he chooses to view life.

"Imagine, if you would, having a great car. The perfect car for you, something that'll do you for whatever you need. Of course, you're going to have to bring it back to the lot, one day. Do you want to have that car in prestine condition, having tortured yourself to keep it that way, when all it's going to do is rust away on the lot, or are you going to run that li'l son-of-a-bitch into the ground, and drag it in on two working pistons and a missing rear axle, with a big grin on your face and a thousand wonderful memories? Same with life, m'boy. Same with life."

Personally, I'd rather go out with a wrecked body and a sound mind (such as it is), than the other way around. What little of I have of my mind is precious to me. It terrifies me to consider the inevitable loss of it that would come with time. Given the choice, I'd rather do as my grandfather says, and go out a bit sooner with my memories and faculties intact, than linger on into senility.

Of course, that's just my view on the matter.

FYI: There's a lot of toxins that get broken down in the liver. Detoxing it is harrowing because you're forcing the undigested toxins back into the bloodstream. Seriously, do you want to live that long

Well, I would offer the counter-argument that a sound body helps in keeping the mind sound. If I don't keep my mind and body sound, I'm going to decay into senility, yes, because I come from a long line of very long-lived people who have all - not to sound cold-hearted here - ended up outliving their usefullness. I don't want to live my family history. I have a strong constitution to work with and I'm going to make the best of it. I'd rather keep my mind intact/free of toxins/whatever and live til I'm 100 than lose my mind at 60 and live til I'm 90. That is my idea of the worst fate imaginable. And a fate that has befallen several of my ancestors.
And yes, there do seem to be a lot of toxins that go through the liver. I'm finding that out. My mom has postulated that the liver is my weak system and where a lot of health problems might show up, so it's good to clean it out. Even if I feel sick.

...Are people really trying to convince me NOT to be healthy?

Hey right with you PR ( aside from the fact that I do occasionally drink) My grandparents both were big on eating right and walking every day and they both lived into their 90's with no real mental issues and in great shape. Hey they were 65 when I was born and they still took me camping and hiking and ran all over with me...and my other grandmother is 95 right now and in such good shape that when Wyatt was born there was no one to take her to the hospital at the time she wanted to go, so she walked 3 miles to get there with no problem:)
Though James I do appreciate your grandfather's live life to the fullest policy! Just live well not destructively and it's all good:)

%$#@#@#$%$^&^&^%%%^$$#%%^%^^%%$$$#!!!!!!

O

OK I just wrote a long ranting post only to have it eaten by the ^%^%^$#%$^$% board!

So here's the situation in slightly shorter format. Really really sucky week filled with stress and no sleep. Brother in law supposed to come down for a fun adults kick back margarita and movie fest this weekend. BIN( brother in law) decides to SURPRISE us and invite his two kids ( ages 4 and 6) to come down. They are due in 5 hours and he just now called to tell us this. So now I have to prep another guest room ( which we don't have so I have to move all the stuff out of the game room, drag the futon in and find sheets, blankets, pillows, etc) clean the house better, run to the store and buy kid food, locate activities for them to do, and spend the whole weekend running around with kids. Who DOES this?? What houseguest just invites two extra people without even checking with the hosts? I have 9 million things that ABSOLUTELY have to get done this weekend which wouldn't have been a problem except now I have two kids to shepherd around and find stuff to do and somehow still get everything else done. Tried to call off weekend and BIN said kids were packed, in car , and on the way and couldn't turn back now. I am usually really upbeat and positive and all I can think right now is I hate my life! I really don't think I can do this. I am exhausted ( 4 hours of sleep last night since I was out tutoring until 11pm) and I just cannot spend all weekend in a whirl of activity and then spend Sunday frantically trying to accomplish all I should have done and then go back and work 5 (16 hour)days....oh well not much choice. Maybe I'll get killed by falling space debris. Or maybe a nice psychotic gunman will take me hostage. Does anyone know how long it takes to join the military and get sent to Iraq?

Anyway, rant over and I will ( unless I get lucky and get hit by a truck) see you all on Monday. I hope you all have great weekends.

I think that being in a dangerous situation automatically means that you are not safe. Being in proximity to a dangerous situation (watching someone being tortured, for example), one might be safe for the duration; but, I think this is a definitional oxymoron.

Could you give us an example (fictional or real, as you'd like)? This is kind of hard to wrap my brain around.

Odds, where in the world do you live/work to have that be the most nermal thing of yer day? Kinda seems to answer HK's question.

I certainly do believe you can find yourself to be completely safe in a dangerous situation. The trick is finding that way fast enough to avoid said danger. Every situation is different so there's no blanket answer I can give. But I can say that I've never been in a situation that didn't have some way out. If you think otherwise you haven't played enough video games!

Certainly one can become safe from a dangerous situation - but, until one is removed from said situation, they are in danger, and hence... cannot be safe.

i tend to feel safe in potentially dangerous sitatuations because i deem myself capable of cping with whatever danger may presrny itself. however there is an argument that, if said danger can be copd with, can be dealt with safely for all concerned, then it ceases to be dangerous.
