Yet another life-affirming experience. Both soundtracks arrived today (thanks Amazon UK) so they have been blasting out from the stereo. I was a bit uncertain at first as they are fragments of music taken out of context. But I should not have been concerned = they are shiny and gorram beautiful. And you get to contrast the small studio Firefly versus the huge orchestra Serenity music. I love both. I just wish the Firefly theme had been developed into a full song - now that would get the emotions running to an even higher state.

Brilliant, genius, brilliant, moving, oh dear I do love good music.

Are you familiar with Michelle Dockery's
" Mal's Song " ? It seems to me to be a
full-length interpretation of the Firefly theme song...And it is gorgeous !

A couple of versions in circulation , including one that's ' Live ' . There's even an awesome video on YouTube , edited by our
' Done the Impossible ' Folk...

If you don't have the DTI soundtrack , you've gotta get it...It's Excellent , just like the DTI dvd .

Thanks for that - I will chase it up. I'm still pretty new here, so BDM I've got but DTI ??? sorry I am always a bit slow picking these things up.

Found it on YouTube. Playing as I type this - so many thanks.

DTI = Done The Impossible -- the fan-made documentary about the rebirth of Firefly (as the BDM).

These soundtracks have had a few plays now on the damn big stereo and it is my humble opinion that Serenity would more than stand being worked up into a full orchestral suite.

I've had Mahler's 5th and Stravinski's Firebird and Rite of Spring blasting out just to recalibrate my sensitivities but that didn't change my mind - David Newman did a fantastic job.

The themes are heart achingly beautiful and just like Firefly deserves to be taken further.

I have two of Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road CD's and they are heart-wrenchingly beautiful. While they aren't soundtracks, the Silk Road theme, music from China, Japan, Persia and so forth - evoke Firefly memories for me. I put them on repeat and play for hours without getting tired of them.

Also have Serenity and Firefly soundtrack - listen to them for hours, too.

Good call , SIRI !

If you like the Silk Road discs , you'd probably also like the soundtrack to Memoirs Of A Geisha .

It's a lush and gorgeous film , due in no small part to the musical score . It features Yitzhak Perlman AND Yo Yo Ma !

While watching the movie , I couldn't help but think , " A lot of this music would really fit in the Sereni-Fly 'Verse " !

If you've not checked it out , you really owe it to yourself...

Thanks - I'll check out the soundtrack - saw the movie but it's been a while - maybe before I found Firefly.
