In the feburary 2007 issue of Wizard magazine Joss makes mention of Firefly. In an article talking about how Buffy will continue in comics there is a break-off article in the corner concerning Firefly. Here it is word word:

"In addition to revisiting Buffy, Joss Whedon also takes to the skies in late 2007 with Serenity: Better Days, a three issue Dark Horse miniseries following the hard-luck space-mercenary that starred in the "Firefly" TV series and the "Serenity" film.
Whedon retemas with writer Brett Matthews, who cowrote 2005's Serenity: Those Left Behind miniseries, to see what happens when a heist goes right and the crew finds themselves: on easy street.
"This new story will take place in the 'Firefly' years i.e., everyone's alive," teases Whedon. "Basically, they pull off a heist and everything doesn't go completly wrong. This, needless to say, has never happened, and it's about how they deal with sucess."
Those Left Behind boasted variant covers by big-name artists like John Cassaday and Joe Quesada; for Better Days, Whedon tapped Adam Hughes to create a triptych cover that'll create a giant image when the story finishes.
"It's being drawn like a photo of the enitre crew posing together for a picture because they're in a good mood and sitting on piles of money," gushes Whedon. "Adam is so great! I'm not hating life."

Well there you have out...new Firefly in 2007!

Yeah, it sounds like a good comic. Maybe filling in a bit more post-series pre-movie detail? I'd like to see that.

Sounds like an interesting story idea too. Why do I imagine having everything go exactly as planned will turn out sooo much worse than the normal sucky status quo?

Very Cool!

I saw the magazine in the store today but didn't buy it yet. Thanks so much for sharing.

I will be happy with some more comics.

VERY SHINY NEWS!! On several levels.. first to have the thing itself.. some 'verse in the coming year... but.. the fact that Joss and the Crew are still so deeply involved.. well that is great news.. and we can take heart that they will do a movie or a tv or whatever whenever they can, because they love it as much as we...

Good to see something is happening. The last comic series was alright and as long as the 'verse is alive in some form there is still a chance of it coming back in others.

Wow, something actually goes right for the BDHs? Show me uncharted territory....'course, it probably boils down to Uncle Joss tossing us a very big, very yummy bone and having Kaylee get kidnapped by Niska later on.

This is great news!

One request though? Could you put Joss' description of what goes on in spoiler quotes? I don't mind a bit, but I know some folks here that would. They'd rather the storyline be a complete surprise. Thanks!

Mini-series, sadly. We're not lucky enough for an ongoing. Sorry, I'm a comic geek, I know all too well the difference between series and mini-series.

My local (if you want to call half an hour drive away "local") comic shop already has this on my pull list, even though it's not coming out soon.

Also, if you didn't like how short Those Left Behind was . . . I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this one is a three issue mini as well, and it won't likely be much longer. I actually thought TLB was just the right length; the whole mini read like an unshot episode. I just wish it had been like the first three issue arc in an ongoing series.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Shiny news! I am looking forward to this mini series, moreso since it will be more backstory of events between Firefly and the BDM.

I actually prefer mini series since they usually only come out when there's a story worth telling. Lobo started to suck when it went regular, but the mini series before that shining ROCKED! Bastich.

I'm so into Firefly, my butt glows in the dark.

Well, I dunno about pre-ordering online, if that's what you're asking, but if there's a comic shop nearby, chances are good they'll reserve you a copy, all you gotta do is ask. There's actually a number you can call to find the nearest comic shop, but I'm too lazy to look it up. Pretty sure Marvel.com has it somewhere on their front page.

Also Dark Horse has a featured online retailer and they have a Joss page. You can preorder Buffy season 8 comics, so you should be able to preorder Serenity: Better Days when it is availble for pre-ordering.

You can see the cover of Buffy Season 8 issue 2.

Love the quote from their page:

Quote:

JW is My Hero

Joss Whedon's fans are some of the most dedicated fans alive (or dead if you count the vampire fans). He has delighted audiences by creating cult TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Buffy spin-off show Angel. Then came Firefly, a sci-fi western set in outerspace. To the disappointment of fans Firefly was cancelled in its first season, but was then made into the major motion picture Serenity. Joss Whedon has put his writing talents to use in writing comic books, particularly the on-going Astonishing X-Men series. Currently, Whedon fans are anxiously awaiting the 2007 release of the new Wonder Woman movie that Joss Whedon is both writing and directing.

What I like about the prospect of these comics, aside from about 5 minutes of new verse-ness (i'm a complainer about the length, each time i bought a new comic last time, i'd have finished it before i got back home)....

The fact that Whedon specifically did it pre-movie. On the one hand, it means he likes writing wash and book, but on the other, I think that means that anything POST-movie is being reserved for sequel territory. Its not much, but it shows Whedon hasnt totally given up on sequels since he's not just spoilerifically writing the crew's escapades post-movie.

"But, these strong women characters?"

"Why aren't you asking 100 other guys why they don't write strong women characters?" -Joss Whedon.

It's good to hear that progress is being made on this miniseries, as I can never complain about any new licenced material set in the 'verse.

I agree with many others, though, that three issues just isn't enough for a satisfactory "episode" to occur..."Those Left Behind" felt like a Tic Tac of Firefly to me.

I think that a six-issue or even eight-issue miniseries (like Fray ) would work better with this crew, allowing more of the smaller, subtler character and plot moments to play themselves out organically...

Ideally, of course, I'd love to have a continuing comic-book series...and novels...all just to fill in the time before the sequel and/or new television series, naturally...but if an ongoing comic series (for example) went on too long, I'd start to worrry about quality dropping. For now, then, miniseries are quite acceptable.
