Get such fantastic actors? Never mind the BDH or other regs from Buffy or Angel, but his special guest stars and cast for SERENITY - Chiwetel Ejiofor, aren't just your garden variety character actors, but damn talented !

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I agree with you. Joss is a genius but what has he done lately?

Joss is young and the big screen is a loaded with competing writers and directors. Joss can't coast on Firefly, BtVS, and Angel forever. He needs some new stuff, and Wonder Woman isn’t going to cut it for the long haul. Joss needs another television series. This is just real world facts.

Just my opinion.

He creates characters with greater than average depth and personality and then gives them fun things to say. What actor can resist that?

Wow, then you must really think I'm behind the times! ( Ok, I am, but what of it? ) Thing is, I am wrapping up watching Buffy - the series, on DVD. Ever since I saw Once More, with Feeling , and Joss's comment about getting Hinton Battle as being some huge coup ( I'm not familiar w/ Broadway, so I have to agree w/ Joss. ) Checking the list of folks Joss was able to get to show up over the 7 yrs of Buffy, it's clear he has some major pull in the industry.

Also, just today, I heard some movie reviewers talking about Chitewel Ejiofor, and again I was drawn to thiniking about what a name this guy has made for himself in a reletively short amount of time.

your questions isn't really valid auraptor. how does joss get the talent? he doesn't. the studio has casting people who do that. marcia shulman, anya colloff, etc. he may get veto powers (as in gayharding) but he isn't the one who reals them in. of course, it could also be said that joss' rep is such that cooler actors would say, yeah, i'll work on one of his projects- which is kindof the feeling i got from ron glass at dc when he explained what brought him into it.

and on another note, i am a HUGE fan of your art. got any new inks of the crew?

I was very surprised to see just what Joss Whedon has been involved in. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0923736/ Looks to me like he's always busy.

I think the hard, cold fact is that there are lots and lots of talented young actors trying to make it in Hollywood at any given time. It's a buyer's market, so it's really a question of finding the right fit for a given role. Joss (and company) do seem to excel at that.

By the way, I disagree that the whole process was handled by casting directors. From what the actors have said in convention Q&A sessions, Joss was very much involved in the casting decisions every step of the way.
