1) Bring home Browncoat clothing from B3 (e.g. "Bunkmate" T-shirt and Browncoat cap).
2) Show photos of Nathan at con and from on-line
3) Watch Serenity pilot.

That's all it took.
(She just kvelled when she saw a picture of me and Nathan with his arm around my shoulder--[I do have to learn how t post my photos and videos on-line one day....)].

And when she's talked to her (sigh) many boyfriends, they all think I'm "the coolest Dad" for being a Firefly/Serenity fan.

Which only makes me rise higher in my daughter's estimation.

Respectfully,
Happy Dad History

Not possible for me as I don't have a daughter, or a son for that matter.

The result is that I'm searching for a suitable female biological donor with which to conduct genetic fusion experiments...

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Congrats History! Keep up the converting.

Very, very shiny! Now you can do family Browncoat events...take her to a Con or two and really get her immersed in the 'Verse!
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Becareful showing her "Trash". She might go crazy and become a Fillionaire.

LOL

She's just turned 18.
If she continues to watch through all the intervening episodes, I'll let her watch Trash (one of my favorites)
I just love Christina Hendricks...something for everybody, I guess...though if I said this in front of her, she'd say:
Daughter: "Dad. Don't be gross. You're old."
Me: "But not dead."
Daughter:

Hmmm. If this goes well, maybe I can get her to go on the Browncoat Cruise next year?

Respectfully,
History

P.S. Now to convert her mother....though I think this might be hopeless (she even has blue dishwashing gloves)

Agh! We can't know that! *shudders*

Your sharing of FF fandom sounds almost like a
Desperate Housewives story line. Especially
the cruise aspect. One only imagines what will
happen on a cruise if it's evening soapy-vision.
The wife is home with her gloves on...

The narrator(-ess) VO: We want our daughters to
bond with their fathers, because we've been told
it will make their adult relationships healthier.
We'd rather they would bond over something that
didn't leave us completely cold....

The same thing happened to me in a way. She dragged me to the BDM. I kept complaining that I really didn't like SciFi, despite sorta liking Star Trek and Star Wars.

I saw the movie and I was in love with the 'verse. I'm now a bigger Browncoat than she is.

BTW where do you get the Bunkmate T-shirts?

As a daughter now in my early 20's, please feel free to gross her out like that at any time. It may help keep her in her place.

And about your wife, if she has those gloves, then I'd keep both eyes on her. ... J/K!

I don't know. Are there Bunkmate T-shirts?
And you can't find at the usual sales outlets?
You may need to find a member of Mal's Bunk
to direct you to the proper orbit.
FollowMal can most likely assist.
Problem is finding her...
heh.
Best of luck!

Youngest daughter converted me by giving me Serenity as a birthday present.

I converted my eldest daughter during her last visit in one step - we watched Firefly episode 1. We finished the series in a marathon viewing that ended at 3:30 in the morning. Now she has her own shiny DVDs.

This reminds me of a funny thing that happened not too long ago. Went to visit my sister with my box set in tow. For two days there is no mention of viewing the DVDs. On day three(the day I planned to leave) her boyfriend decides to pop in disk one. This is around 6pm. By the time we finish the first disk they are both entralled and insist on watching the enire series before I can leave. Now I can be fairly resonable but I was looking at a two hour drive and had to work the next day so I politely stated they would have to watch them another time. That went over like a lead balloon. The fanatical look in their eyes told me that there would be trouble if I were to make any sudden moves. Also, the three cats must have sensed something was about to go down because they were eyeballing me like I was about to become dinner. I stayed, they loved it, and now own their very own set.

As to the original topic, it doesn't seem too difficult getting women hooked on the show. There is more partial male nudity per episode than any network series I can remember.

On behalf of Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes LRH and Theatans worldwide, I am claiming plaguerism here!

As proof, I submit the following for your review. This is an exerpt from Scientology Weekly:

How to brainwas..... convert your daughter to Scientology in 3 steps:

1) Bring home cool Scientology engram-repelling garb from SBW*Con (e.g. "hypnocrown" tiara and bitchin' secularobes).
2) Show photos of Tom Cruise at "church" and from on-line.
3) Watch Legend.

Anybody else see the similarities?

Shame on you. You are not clear. Your poor mind is riddled with engrams. You should come to on of our seminars coming to a city near you soon and partake in a free auditing. Don't listen to anybody who says we just want to take your money. Soon they won't matter anyways. :)

LONG LIVE LRH!!!!!!

Ugh, what an awful thought... that Flandom could turn into another Scientology.

Ick!

Anybody hear the rumor that Tom Cruise and the S'ologists had something to do with getting Beckham to come to the states? Supposedly Posh Spice (Mrs. Beckham) was promised a role in an upcoming Cruise movie.

The same outrageous thought crossed my mind but then with Joss at the helm it wouldn't be a religion but a philosophy. Anyone who references Jean-Paul Sartre's Nausea is not going to lead the flock astray, let alone write another broken bible.

Noah's ark is a problem. We'll have to call it "early quantum state phenomenon." Only way to fit five thousand species of mammal on the same boat.

One man's philosophy is another man's religion.

If anybody couldn't tell, I wasn't at all serious about that last post... although I have read Dianetics. It's a pretty interesting read, but I won't be having any silent births to alien babies in the future.

I didn't for one moment think you were serious. All I was trying to say is that Joss seems to think deeply about things and I can think of worse leaders.

Despite ploughing my way through The God Delusion I still feel uneasy about upsetting the devout - as many of my friends are. But was Mr Hubbard serious? I didn't for one moment think he was either but look what happened there. No let's not think about it. I would rather ponder on all things Joss.

There are so many brilliant quotes in his work - it's better than poetry for a philistine like me. Joss's Little Book of Aphorisms - I would buy it! :-)

How many come from Joss, how many from the episode writers and how many from the cast? Whatever, they are brilliant. The one about the cows forgetting what they were supposed to be is really bugging me at the moment. I'm sort of thinking - have I forgotten who I am supposed to be? But that's another story.

Status report.

My daughter's favorite character in Firefly to-date?
Jayne.

Between schoolwork and college auditions /applications, we've made it through the first two discs by watching "Jaynestown" tonight.
She loved it.
...Except when the "hot guy" (the Mudder young man) threw himself in front of Jayne and got killed.
Her comment: "How come all the hot guys get killed?"

Hmpf. Wait to she sees Jonathan Woodward in "The Message."
She loved the photos I took of (and with) him at B3 in December.

Respectfully,
History
