OK, so there I am whacking away at the new macro, and it hits me... What metrics are of the most interest to us Browncoats?

What I propose to do is the following:
Track the Top40 daily
-Daily, Weekly, 30 Day vote averages.
-Sort by Weekly vote averages (Firefly should generally be #1 that way)

Here's where the fun starts

If a show pulls more votes than Firefly (weekly average)
- Calculate Range to Firefly,
- Calculate Current, Wk Avg & 30 Day Avg closure rate
- Calculate expected days until they catch us (current / Weekly / 30 day average).
- - If it's someone already ahead of us list the intercept as "We won't catch them" or somesuch.

Otherwise, calculate Range, Closure, Intercept relative to... ??? What?
Days until they reach the position the show belongs in based on Weekly average votes per day?
Days until their next expected position change?

So once that hurdle is crossed, I'm thinking of posting the stats for the top 10 VOTE Getting shows (Firefly, Bonanza, Xena, BSG, XFiles, Gunsmoke, Lexx, Buffy, Ponderosa, Farscape), regardless of current position in the standings. This way we'll all be able to see the "Serious" players, and know if anyone is coming for us.

Then we move on to the Charts
The charts are already rather busy, so I'm thinkning of making them reflect the Top10 Vote getting shows also.

Whaddya' think folks?

YINYANG

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

I've been watching football all day (Lose, Denver, lose!), so most of that went over my head - but, it sounds really nice.

Flattop,
I think you are catching one of the reasons I like to do top10 + BSG; to keep an eye on our tail as well as what is ahead. (Though I admit BSG is mostly a matter of having a bit of curiousity about the show and how it fairs; otherwise I'd do + BSG and + House ;-) )

Personally, I think I'd like to see days until they reach the next position; the only time this will fall flat is if the show is #1 already. And if the #1 show is the most vote getting... well, then there's not much of interest to calculate.

Ok, but if you use an average that includes the time span of House MD, you will find that show is on it. They are busting along at about 200 votes a day. The other problem is what will be the criteria to be on that top10 list... single day? Rolling weekly average? Monthly average? I think a rolling 2 week average would be good; provide enough stability shows won't be constantly popping in and out of the group, but dynamic enough we'll easily see any show before it is a real threat to Firefly's position. You might find at times it is simplest to do perhaps 11 or 12 shows in the top list of this sort; but if your macros are set to handle the flux in and out of the group, don't sweat it. Personally every time a show goes in or out of my list I have to tweak the formulas, so I hate flux.

Otherwise, I don't have much to say beyond "go for it."

We should have such problems

The primary delay I'm facing is building the flux capacitors Once done, the only tweaks will be when Firefly changes position. That should only happen two more times.
The top 10 from my first post was just todays top 10, no averages. The charts will span at least 1 week average.

Many thanks for the input.

I find absolutely ALL stats interesting, I'm that kind of guy. I'd also like to help, but I don't want to get involved, because the stats reguire much devotion and consistency. I tried doing stats for the google group once, at first I did it once a week, then every two weeks, then ocasionally and now I don't do it at all. It's very tiring!
But if anyone wants to do those, LeadB is actually doing most of it anyway, I'd be more than happy to read, comment and admire :) What I can promice you with certainty is, that I will keep every day's totals and you can request them from me at any time.

Please take a moment to read http://www.podpiski.org/?sl=en
It's about unjustfully convicted to death medics in Libya! Please help saving them!

Could be useful for other polls in the future.

I like a lot of the statistical information also. To some it might be a lot of numbers, to me it is another way to look at the progress.

On the other hand, too much information can be an overload. I guess that if I wanted more specific data, or info presented in a specific way, I would track locally on my own spreadsheet. (Having said that, had anyone emailed Flatrich and asked for the raw data? Some he disposes, some he keeps. Perhaps he would share what he keeps?)

I'd still be interested in days-to-intercept fixed marks. How long until we reach 110k? 120k? 130k? This has the benefit of giving us shorter goals.

I'm not really that interested in seeing how the other shows change position, just their progress relative to us. As for how you calculate that (weekly average, daily average, etc.) is totally up to you. I know little about that sort of thing and all I can say is, because you do much already, is do whatever is easiest for you. You won't be catching any flack from me for your calculations.

p.s. charts are pretty

"Storms getting worse."
"We'll pass through it soon enough."
