"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

How could you be any kinder qing ren?

I don't usually make resolutions and if I decide to focus on something I tend to call it a confirmation or a committment to myself...

I guess I want to be stronger, fitter and follow my dreams... With having joined a gym and loving it and working towards attending D*C and travelling again I am on the way to meeting those 'committments' to myself!

I want to be a better friend too - there are always some people that you think are doing OK and don't miss you but they just might and I should make the effort to keep in touch more often!

Well take care everyone! Don't work too hard Tristan and Mavourneen... and for those folk I haven't seen goodnight!!

RIMG... I miss you my Jimi-bear!! where are you???

OK must laugh. I ran to pick up some office supplies and passed the local florist. They had a sign up saying " Now hiring DRIVER" and someone stole the D so it now says " Now hiring River" I can see it now, customers flee as River begins describing the deadly properties of the flowers.

Alright folks. I survived the weekend and am glad to be home. Gotta be quick.
I have a new addiction and paintball is its name. But it comes with a cost. Which means I gotta work real hard to get the payroll done, come back and catch up with y'all, handle a little buisness, put more stuff in my shopping cart at various sites, debate in my head the camo pattern and colors I'm usin' in some 3D camo and Ghille suits I'm gonna be making, determine the route and target numbers for the practice/drill course I'm setting up around the property, and come back here to rant and rave over whoever and whatnot to my hearts content.

A quick question. Where can I get FF/BDM patches. I'm definately adding patches to my suit.

Be back soon.

Don't get me started on paintball, NV. Husband sank an outrageous amount into a Co2 Paintball gun and all the accoutrements. Almost fell over when I saw $400 drained from the ol' account, and that was for the gun only!

EDIT: MSG, I had a moment like that River sign like you did over New Years. I got one of those packets in the mail that has a lot of coupons for local businesses in it, and one of them was for a new dentist in the area. Dr Reiver.
Somehow, I can't see myself going to a dentist named Reiver!

Hi guys.
I'm sick at home today, so I'm pretty much bored out of my mind...
I didn't make any resolutions myself. Whenever I do I either conveniently "forget" what they were or just fail at doing them. So I just figured why even bother.
Mav - Aww what kind of dog did you get?

NVG - Hmm, never tried paintball myself, though I have heard that it's lots of fun...

MSG - Heh, I do that sort of thing all the time...I start seeing Firefly stuff everywhere, even if it's probably not intentional.

Hi gang. Just passing through. Only one resolution: to catch up on the imponderables from the last three threads before 2008. I have no idea what's new with any of you and so little is new with me. The home computing issues of late 2006 have been resolved to a point. We now have dueling laptops. (Don't get too worked up: one still belongs to work; but the new one seems to be having issues off and on (sometimes very literally, Off and On), so I'm reserved in my happiness, but I did manage to fire off a couple of posts over break, so I'm not all bleak and such either). God bless the run-on sentence.

Hope all are well and have the happiest and prosperousest new years. Of you who celebrate/observe/couldn't-care-less-about New Year's at this time. For the rest of you, let me know your calendar and I'll wish you a happy near ewe for the appropriate time. God bless the non-sensical turn of phrase.

I've missed you folks somethin' fierce. You really are family and not always knowing what's new was actually weighing on me emotionally. As emotional as a heartless automaton can get anyway.

Tristan- thanks I know you all are and it really helps:)

There are definitely some cool patches on ebay. Unfortunately it looks like my favorite browncoat store on ebay (wild dingoes) got out of the browncoat business.

And...welcome back, JQ. I was wondering where you'd gone to.

We adopted an American Staffordshire Terrier. Also known as a Pit Bull. His previous owners didn't mistreat him persay, but I wouldn't call keeping a dog tied up in the backyard 365 days very good pet ownership.
Despite his upbringing, he is incredibly sweet and placid. I wouldn't have said yes if he had a mean streak.
I'm trying to find a pic, bear with me.
He is 4 1/2 and most unfortunate of all, his name is Rocky. I really want to change his name to Jayne but I was overruled. Boys!

Howdy All and happy New Year!

NVG - Paintball rocks. My reccomendation is to go old school with the gun. I have a Tippman 68 Carbine semi-auto.

The only reason I still use it is because it was the last Tippman with a true metal bolt and housing. Strait shots all the time and crazy on the fly adjustable air so you can hit that sucker from where ever he is hiding (thinking he is safe) Hehehehe.

Oh yeah and when it fires there is no doubt who is shooting. My brother's friends used to run the other way when I would start shooting because they knew it was me and that I could tag them from almost anywhere!

Edit: Paintball is a little pricey at first but after the initial investment it is only around $20 an afternoon to play.

There's not a thing wrong with the breed. Except what people do with them. Our little half-breed is the very sweetest, cutest, lovable, endearing...on and on ad nauseum...little fella. But, my GOD, is he protective of us. If you are a stranger (that's anyone who walks up to the house unbidden, familiar or not), you shall not pass.

While his other half is Black Lab, it is in appearance only; there is NOTHING retrieverlike about him in temperament. He is a terrier plain and simple: he lives to burrow, preferably after something, but that would be icing..."Jayne" woulda been cool, but maybe he's more of a "Simon" like Slade is. I would stack him up against any primate in intelligence (and win) and many humans I know.

Already ahead of ya boththa man. I'm payin' off a couple of crappy bills in order to save throughout the next few months. The paintball gear will be the immediate "gift" from the IRS god. As for the initial investment, 75o dollars, so far. I love the day long cost of 20 or 30 bucks. Its cheaper tahn a range session and I get some exercise in hosing folks down. MSG is right. I relived alot of stress on Sunday. Once I was put on a small team with good direction and planning, we dominated quick, fast, and in a hurry. Although, my gorram knees are a bit sore. Ever seen a dark man walk like Gumby?

P.S. forgot to mention this above...

This, ladies and gentlemen, is my senior quote, hopefully the yearbook people dont misspell anything or cut it, it did fit in the lines provided... I figured "We've done the impossible and that makes us mighty" was a little too cliche, even tho its firefly. too much like every other senior quote ever... so here it be:

"It's okay, Early, I'm going with you. Don't belong. Dangerous. Like you. Can't be controlled. Can't be trusted. Everyone could just go on without me, not have to worry. People could be who they wanted to be, be with the people that they wanted... live simple. No secrets. I'll be fine. I'll be your bounty, Jubal Early, and I'll just fade away."

My first hit was a head shot. I got a few more, but the balls didn't break. Yay me! Stings a bit, but its worth it. As for the knees, its actually lower thigh/knee. Lotta crouching, ducking, dodging to be had. I can't see how anyone can play that ESPN speedball stuff. I had such a great time being outside in the brush. Aside from the retard asshole adjacent to us shooting birds with shotguns, everthing was cool. They were just shooting anything for fun.

And I almost brought Monica along for the ride.

MrG does know that "protection" is an absolute requirement for paintballing, yes? I'm sure if his cup runneth over, they come in different sizes.
And you're both clear that "protection" is an absolute no-no in regular balling and the size they come in is only modestly a concern compared to the quantity?

I'm mean we all want to cheer you on, but we also want to make sure the game is rigged to win, too. Wouldn't be good Browncoats if the playing field was on the level...

Dark I admit, but it wasnt meant as a statement about me. It's just me loving Firefly, and being random, and that's what I wanted to say. If people read it and it reminds of Firefly (which about 20 people in my school will) then I'm happy. If people read it and go "wow that kid is crazy" i think it's better than skimming straight over it. I just didnt want the generic "life is cool" kind of quote. So there I go.

And my tagline that I love, "doing it backwards, walking up the downslide"... well you cant put a nondescript pronoun like "it" in a high school year book. Ever.

And graduation? Ya know, a year or two ago I'd have been counting the days, but not now. Now i'm either just going day by day cause there is plenty of homework and projects and (I kid you not) I'm starting a Firefly Club at school.... Ya know, things to do. And I'm gonna miss everyone. People who say "you'll make new friends" are full of go se... they're my friends and I love them damnit, and making new friends isnt the point. Blarg.

Sorry, just that every vacation I come to terms with the fact that school, love it or hate it, is better than sitting at home doing nothing. The world is about people, with work as a biproduct. Vacations tend to be about doing nothing but still with the homework.

Anyhoo, you guys are still awesome I need to read A Doll House while i refresh the page.

Hey that's a good ponderable though. (Providing others had yearbooks that allowed senior quotes or summaries or something) What was you senior quote in the yearbook??

Mine was " You worry too much. You make yourself sad. You can't change fate, but don't feel so bad. Enjoy it while you can. It's just like the weather. So quit complaining brother. No one lives for ever. So celebrate while you still can 'cause any second it may end and when it's over, said and done, better that you had some fun."

Ah, we don't exactly do Year Books in my school... well we do, but WE have to make them ourselves. Result: collages of random pictures so you won't be able to tell who's who when you're old and mad/blind. And no writing on them either.
AND I wasn't in it much because I'm not one of the (quote un-quote) coooool kids.
And glad I am of it, actually.
Anywho I took matters into my own hands and bought a pair of white converse, then got all my friends who were leaving to write all over them.
Thats just GCSE year mind you, I stayed on and have two more years to go.

Can't tell you how thick the paraphrasing is on that. Captures the spirit, not the specifics.

Somebody wrote a prophesy story 10 or 25 years into the future and my appearance was summarized in a scene where some cataclysmic event forced the evacuation of the gym during an assembly or a game. The entire graduating class was scrambling to get out but my three friends and I who were going into the gym. To do some Big Damn Heroics? Maybe. Don't remember why, but the point was no matter what everyone else was doing, we'd been going against the crowd. That part was spot on.

(And I'm really not fishing for ego boosts with my self-deprecation; I am very self-aware, know my limits and know my secret powers very well. But in the interest of fair play, I'm not immune to my own teasing.

So there!

I'm only a sophomore in highschool right now, so I haven't had a senior quote yet. If it was one I chose, I would definitely make it either a Firefly quote or a Tori Amos one. But yeah, if it's one of those "most likely to..." things that your class does it would probably be something dumb and generic, 'cause not many people in my class know much about me other than I'm good in school...
It's kinda like what Fitch said where they let the students do way too much in the yearbook, so it ends up only being the "cool" kids.

Yeah, its annoying, ain't it? Our head of year made a speech at our leaver dinner (kinda like a Prom I spose) and only mention the 'cool' kids to such an extent that I yelled 'Hey we exist too, yeah?!'

But I'm glad I'm not a so called 'cool' kid, because their social life is so structured, you can't talk/be seen with the wrong people etc. And they're all so identical.

Me and my mates, we are like the Independants *proud face*

RHYIANAN

We didn't have quotes in the yearbook, the closest thing we had were about 10 categories that everyone voted two students into (one male and one female).

Some of the categories were weird, like "prettiest eyes" and "nicest smile", some of them were obvious, like "tallest" and "longest hair", and some of them were the usual "most likely to suceed" and "most likely to become president."

I was voted the female class brains.

HELL'S KITTEN

Hallo, everyone!
Woke up around 1pm today and have utterly succeeded in doing nothing at all. Lovely feeling, although a bit strange.... And now I'm way behind in this thread, as usual. So I'll stick to my version of "laconic."

*EDITED: Magda, I had something for ya, but it turned out crappy, so I removed it until such time as I can make it better

Ummmm... I made some vague resolutions to myself, yes.
Things along the lines of going back to the gym, eating healthier food, distancing myself from any sort of emotional committments, becoming more inscrutable, playing the good corporate whore until I get my pay-out... you know... same old, same old.

Heh, mine was darker, too. I believe it was "Live and let die," from the McCartney song. *snikker* Yeesh, I was a horrible child. (wait... "was"...??)

Okay. NOW I'm going to clean my apartment. I'm serious. Really. I can hear you laughing, you know....

WHITEFALL

Yeah we had those "craziest driver" "most likely to succeed" things as well as the quote. Appropriately dubbed "senior superlatives".

And I was looking at some firefly vids on youtube, came across this on the front page:

it's so gorram pretty: a bunch of folk sent in their dreams/wishes for the world summed up in three words. Song aint bad either, hehe.

Anyhoo, tomorrow i'm gonna go n buy some small-ish sorta things as christmas presents for about fifteen people. Dunno how cheap i'll have to be, but I wanna do it. Give teh giving.

And grr, i'm getting all antsy about my Firefly Club, its been stuck in the "get approved by the ASB" for going on two months thanks to christmas and thanksgiving break... Oh wlel, we'll get there.

MAVOURNEEN

Good Morning, Imponderables.

I don't remember my quote. Too long ago. Funny, I remember other people's but not my own.

A question from yesterday that I never responded to:

I have made less a resolution but more of an effort to stay in touch with the various friends I've made throughout the years. I've already rekindled a friendship via email that the woman had entirely given up on me. I feel really good about having reached out to her with my Mea Culpa.

I have a cup of the Good Stuff over at the pub. Better go grab it before Tristan commandeers it.

PS- New dog peepeed in the house yesterday. Not happy. On top of that, the kitties are taking out their displeasure at the new family member by clawing and not using the litter box.
Basically, my house...smells a bit!
