I just got the HD DVD and saw a scar on Mal's face above left eyebrow. I never saw it before. I was wondering if Nathan Fillion has the scar or was it added for the film (I think that would be stupid to add it but I've seen stupider (like buying Star Wars for the second time on DVD and like the 500th time on any format including theater tickets, I stupid.)

It's Nathan's scar. According to the Aprciatin'Nathan thread at serenitymovie.com he got it as a toddler.

Here'a the story I think. He and his parents were in a car accident and spent the night in the hospital. When they arrived home the next daythey put him to bed and went to watch some TV. He fell off the bed and hit his head and had to go back to the emergency room with very embrassed parents.

He's also said that he was dumped on the ground by a swing as a child. That's the other scar.

What NCBrowncoat said.

MALicious is actually our resident expert over on the Appreciatin' Nathan crew for all things Nathan related.

She details these stories someplace over in the Bunk and she got at least one of them from Kaele, who was told this by Nathan himself at Moonlight Rising when she sat at the table with him at the banquet.

I hate to quote it inaccurately.

I'll try to locate it and link it over here. If it's in Mal's Bunk though and not in the public forum, I'll have troulbe doing that. Perhaps MALicious will come along and help us out? I hope so!

DGARY

Hi there. Although I am Dgary here, I am MALicious at the Browncoats board. (Is there a way to change my name here?) Anyway, here are the scar stories as reported by Kaele from the Moonlight Rising con in June, 2006. I hope y'all enjoy them:

"Nathan explained it something like this...

Nathan and his family were in a really bad car accident when he was about 2 years old. They were all hospitalized and Nathan was in the longest. (*sob* Poor baby Nathan!) On the day he came home, his parents had put him to bed in their bed. This is exactly what I would have (and HAVE) done as a parent. To make sure he couldn't escape, being little and all, they wrapped him up really tight in the blanket. I comment really quietly, "Baby burrito," but I don't think he heard me. He starts doing the tucking motion and it was just adorable. He continued, saying that they put him to bed and went downstairs to watch TV and heard a thump. He had wriggled along the bed, but since he couldn't get his arms out, had fallen and hit his head on the nightstand. His parents wound up taking him BACK to the hospital on the exact same day that he had just been released.

He THEN continues to explain his other scar. (What!? Whoa! Bonus story and more picture examinin' to do!) I must have this totally confused look on my face, because he then points to his left eye and traces it. (*guh* Blue eyes! Blue eyes!) He said it looks like an arrow and points to his eye. He and a neighborhood girl were on a couch swing and were leaning over the back of the swing with their heads down. They were having a great time and were getting really dizzy, but weren't paying attention to how high they were going. The whole thing turned over, and while the girl (whose name I forgot) landed in the nice soft grass, Nathan landed in the wood pile. He said he came so very close to hurting his eye."

Very true, MaLi... that is such a nice shot for lots of reasons, but one of them is that you can actually see that he has blue eyes. Most of the time on Firefly the lighting lent itself to making it appear that they were brown.

Yes, due to Joss' desire to have Mal's eyes look dark and hooded. I remember oooooing the first time I saw Mal looking up at Jayne's statue in Jaynestown and seeing Nathan's pretty blue eyes. That was nice. :-)

Oh yeah! Thanks for the pretty! I'd add another, but I don't have a clue how to do it on this site. I guess you have to use photo bucket or something, right?

Hey, guys and gals.

I copied my story over from the bunk/AN thread and fff onto my myspace blog if you want the entire thing. The archives of fff has been ravenous again and it has swallowed my thread, I'm sure. :)

I hope the link works. It should point right to it.

Edit:
It seems the scar story was not on there! Opps! Well, someone posted it further on up this thread word for word, so there ya go. :)

Such a nice Christmas present FollowMal. I've said it in the Bunk but I think Nathan has the bluest eyes and most carisma since Paul Newman and I still cant' get enough of Paul and he's now over 80!
Let me see, that at least gives us 35 more years of Nathan.

FollowMal,I need to correct my self. Too much wine with dinner this afternoon threw off my math skills.

Let's see here-Nathan is 35 (36 in March), Paul Newman is 80 plus, so here's even more good news. That gives us 45 more years of Nathan and I'm sure he'll look as good at 80 as Paul Newman does.
