With reference to the title, I just wanted to urge everyone to watch out for the crazies on the road out there this weekend. Just because you are being a good/safe driver doesn't mean the jackass two lanes over is going to be as well.

Ponderable: What gift from yourself are you most looking forward to seeing someone open this season?

Magda - good morning/evening Merri-doll. I am doing ok, though a bit tired. It's my last work day before the holiday, and it is raining pretty good here, but all in all should be a decent kind of day. How's your world ?

You won't believe it but...It's raining here as well!!!!!

There's been a cool change so things are more bearable and best of all there is some rain - not a lot, but some and that's better than none!! I'm glad your working week is almost over Jimi-bear - when do your boys get home??

I think the gifts I wish I could see opened are all on their way overseas... but I also am looking forward to giving my Dad a set of Monty Python DVDs, he and I love them!!! also I bought my mother a years Movie club membership at a local cinema that I adore so we'll be able to meet there and have a coffee and watch a film together... another thing we enjoy doing! Oh - and I also bought my brother-in-law a little set of DVDs called 'Firefly'...

Should be a good Christmas!

I have to go get them when I get off tonight (at midnight), then either bring them back here or go on ahead to my parents'.

I love the rain, except driving in it, which is made worse by all the dumb people in this town. *sigh*

I don't really have any particular presents, but I am really looking forward to Zachary and Aiden opening the plethora of gifts they have coming to them on Monday morning.

Hey, RIMG & Magda - Good Morning!

I'm looking forward to Husband's reaction to seeing all the stuff under the tree! I've been buying gifts for several months now, and both he and Tidbit have lots and lots to open.

Tidbit also doesn't know he's getting a GameBoy. He will faint!

That rain is headed my way. It should be raining here by lunchtime. Glad it's not cold. I love snow...but detest ice storms. Especially if I'm at work.

mornin' Mavs.

Glad to hear about the mass of presents (I showed my co-worker James my trunk last night, which is literally full of presents, 75% of which are for the boys), and very glad to hear about the GameBoy. Yay videogames! (Tidbit is 4-5 years old, correct?)

If it were even close to an ice storm this little city would probably shut down completely, with panic in the streets as people try to avoid accidents while stocking up on milk and bread with a fervor that would make most sane people assume a nuke was on the way.

Don't feel disconnected from your Nation's Capital...you're just like us!!!
For some odd reason, people here feel the need to wipe their bums uncontrollably during a snowstorm, judging from the toilet paper that is bought pre-storm.

EDIT: Sorry Mavourneen and RIMG - I wrote this and then took about 20 mins to hit 'post'!

RRRAAAWWWRRR !!!!!

Sorry, just had to get that out. Ami called and wanted to change the plans for tonight and for getting the boys to me, and I am a little peeved about it. Just needed to let out some negative energy.

Mavs - I love that they can play video games together, I look forward to experiencing something like that when Zachary is just a little bit older.

Magda - between me, my family, and my co-workers, my sons are going to really rake it in. I will not be travelling with them tonight, as Ami wants to bring them before it gets dark, she says they are starting to get sick. It makes sense, but I really don't care to see her stupid boyfriend in my house.

Gift I wanted to see opened (and have seen opened already) was to a friend of mine. I gave her a chainsaw orniment and some other stuff, but the chainsaw was the important part. She got the look on her face I thought she would.

While I thought the ornament was cute, as did everyone else who saw it, my friend doesn't like chainsaws, so it was something of a gag gift and is also why it was one of several gifts I gave her. She glared at me and said that I wasn't funny.

I think we could set an angry Penguin on her... don't you??

I think I have mentioned that I rarely get angry unless someone I care about is being mistreated!!!

One time, for my birthday, my best friend gave me the Widescreen DVD of 'Glory' and I was beside myself - she said it was the best response to a gift she'd ever had!!

EDIT: Oh hi Mircea!! Hey LA... you're a Star Trek fan too - Voyager was good, though it took me a while to get into it - my favourite was DS9!

Aw but you're so cute penguin:)

Mircea- see now I was thinking it'd be something like my friend Marni. It had a machete in it and an engraved pic of a zombie with the words, In case of Zombie attack break glass. Be sure to sever head from torso completely.

Color: Don't know why I (and appearantly, many others) prefer the pale woman, but I do. Perhaps it has something to do with the perception that the whiter the skin, the smoother it'll be. Of course, I've still got that niggling perception that black women taste like chocolate...
That, and it contrasts with black hair really nicely.

Freckles: Likewise, I don't know why it is, but freckles are a turn on. I know that you had to suffer through them in your childhood, but now that you're an adult, you can enjoy them. Make them squirm with your little dots of melanin!
(It's possibly tying into some unrequited schoolgirl fantasy, I suppose.)

Also, to continue with the utter shallowness of my typing, for some reason, I also like extremes in hair length. Hair down to your knees? Great. Hair shorter than mine? Shiny! Hair to your shoulders? Boring. I like the pixie-cut as much as I do the long, lavishing flows of hair. It's just the middle thing which doesn't do much for me.

And, to digress, it looks like the Island isn't going to get a white Christmas this year. That makes five in a row where there wasn't so much as a flake on the ground come the Yule, whereas when my father was an infant, there'd be snow up to the powerlines come the big day. Climate change, I suppose. If only it'd get rid of the friggin' cold snaps we get in February (where the days can reach -30C before wind-chill), I might have an incentive not to move the hell away. Besides the fact that crossing the bridge bumps up occupational salaries by as much as 30% in even the crap jobs, I mean.

Present: There's nothing particularly that I'm too excited about. Well, besides BSG's entire second season. Good show, that.

Well, I'm cold and surrounded by dogs. Ciao.

So you have a visual, Husband once told me my hair is the color that Cherry Coke tastes.

*Relieved you're not a man*
I'm bettin' on the drinking partners.

RIVERISMYGODDESS I think that is very good logic, at least for the Irish males. Maybe the others wish to intermingle with the ancestry (c'mon, who doesn't want a little Irish in them?)
Another theory is that it is because they are less prominent in everyday life, therefore associated with rare/exotic by the brain.

Rare/exotic works for me. I'm not at all Irish, but I am fair-skinned and of reddish hair, and I always seem to notice/look for redheads.

Once upon a time ago I had a Pink '57 Lincoln Premiere. 'Twas sweet. The trunk was long than the Chevette I owned before that.

Ooooh - and go on that 'browncoat cruise' next December!!

Is this them?

Mavs or Mags. What a difference a letter makes, eh? You decide and let me know what, er who, you want. I need to make preparations. There's "Husband" separation anxiety on the one hand, and de-Aussie-fication on the other, you shots and such. (we promise to keep most of the accent intact.)

Hiya guys, and an early merry Christmas, or Hanukah, or whatever you celebrate!

I'm not exactly looking foward to someone opening a specific gift, I would just like them to open the gift and actually like it. I'm really bad at buying gifts in the first place, so it would be good if I could get them something that they will acually use and enjoy, and not just do it to not hurt my feelings.

I gotta be out folks. I just wish I could give every one of ya's the biggest hug possible.

Holiday tradition: It was interrupted by a few years of sobriety, but its back with a vengance.

Drunk Present Wrapping!

Two years runnin' I do so on Christmas Eve eve. Just so everyone can see the gentle progression from having fun to Fit Shaced. I don't condone doing so as it is a game for professionals, but if you must, please do it with a friend.

Happy Holidays to everyone.

Love and Hugs

NVG, uh, have fun with the drunken present wrapping...

Hey MsG! I'm so happy, I'm finally off school for the holidays too! Yay!

I really don't feel in the Christmas spirit though, maybe just because I've still been in school...But I have been having the most obnoxious Christmas songs stuck in my head...right now it's that Paul McCartney one.
The music is possibly the worst part of the holidays if you ask me.

TRAVELER

Well I have not posted for some time and I had better catch up. But all I caught was something about zombies. And of course MSG said something about food. Mention food am I will here from several thousand miles away.

Happy Holidays Everyone.

I am finally off of work for the holidays and will spend most of it being a couch potato. The couch beckons me. I must curl up with my favorite blanket and listen to the rain.

Yes. It is raining in Wisconsin on December 22nd. No white Christmas for us unless we get our typical sudden change in weather. And we get that a lot. But we usually get the wrong weather for Christmas, so I am not holding my breath waiting for snow.

MSG: You must bake batches of cookies for Christmas. I think I can smell them from here. I miss homemade cookies. I think that is the true meaning of Christmas. walnut balls covered in powdered suger and those molasses cookies my mother used to make. Now I'm drooling on my keyboard. I think it is time to put "A Christmas Story" on and watch it from my well placed couch.

Hello dear Traveler! It looks like I missed most of my Imponderables family... I am wrapping gifts to put under the tree at Mum & Dad's this evening! I have also made a batch of that tiramisu I was talking about... Oh you poor wee things that have never tried it, and when you do - make sure it's the real thing and not some cheap knock-off... you need to go to a really good Italian restaurant and slowly savour every mouthful...

Santa!! JohnnyQ... I knew you were too good to be true, but for the fact that Santa is true and all that...

OK, Santa...!! I'm packed...!! Where do you want me to wait - is on the roof OK? Do I have to wait until Christmas Eve??

To ponder: I was going to ask people what their favourite thing about Christmas is each year - what tradition you look forward to the most - what is the image you have in your mind when you think of Christmas... (or whichever holiday it is that you celebrate at this time of the year ) I think NVG already told us but I wanted to share mine too...

Every year on Christmas Eve we have a midnight service at my church - it actually begins at 11.30 pm and is preceeded by fruit punch and mince pies... Since the first year we have done this I have sung with the band to lead the worhip and we usually try to have 3 singers instead of the usual 2! As everyone enters the chapel they are given a candle in a red or green holder.

At midnight we light our candles from the Christ candle at the front of the church and as I am usually singing at the front at that time I get to watch the candles lit, one from the other, and see the light spread through the congregation... we then turn off the overhead lights and finish the service by candlelight... it is pure magic and there are usually folk with family whom I rarely get to see, friends I grew up with who've moved away, but have returned for the special day, and visitors who have found a nearby place to celebrate a special date in the Christian calendar! I love it!

*sigh* I do hope you are snug and well Traveler - I'd invite you over for Christmas dinner (& tiramisu) at my place, but I suspect you won't be able to make it... I love lying in bed, or rugged up on a couch and listening to the rain!

Hey! Qing ren... bet you didn't see that coming? ...yeah, it's all in the Ninja skills

Oh Magdalena:

More food. Fellow employees bring food from home and we get gift boxes from our suppliers. Food! Wonderful foood! Will have to learn about this tiramisu. Mince pies! Must stop. Drool will fry my keyboard.

I watch my favorite Christmas movies. I think tonight will be "A Christmas Story" and continue watching the rest every night until I am burned out of Christmas. The last one I watch is usually "The Lemon Drop Kid" with Bob Hope. I like to start and end the season with a good laugh.

I have finally mailed your Christmas card. Shows how industrious I am. Our Post offices close before I get to them after I get off work. They let us go early today and I was able to get to the post office in time. Lucky most people have already mailed their letters and packages, this meant the line was short. You should receive the card about the middle of January. You will have a extra Christmas moment to enjoy while others are just having an average January day.

When I tell my mother I talk to people from all over the world on my computer, she thinks I am a genius. Of course I do not ruin the image she has of me. Who am I to spoil wonderful feeling this gives her.

I aim to drool

But you are a genious, dear Traveler!! Not only do you talk with people all over the world... you connect with them!!

And about the tiramisu... ... sorry about that! I will have to work out a way of making sure all my browncoat friends get to try some - you'll have to come to D*C next year and I'll see what I can do!

In the mean time - enjoy your movies sounds like a good way to enjoy your time off! Oh - and I will try to be on line a bit over the weekend too - so I will look out for you!!
P.S. I love stretching out my celebrations - I will love receiving a Christmas card from you - if it arrives when I am back at work it will be extra good as I will get a bright spot in my day!!

Magda and Traveler, we might be the only ones left at home. We can snuggle together to keep warm. It's even chilly and rainy down here tonight.

Madga, you asked about favorite Christmas traditions. I think having quiet moments with friends is my favorite. I just got home from a friends house. We were drinking tea in front of the fire. There was great Christmas music in the background, and we were talking and laughing.

I will be spending Christmas with another friend. I have watched her twin daughters grow, and now one of them has a 2 year old daughter. I love being with friends during the holidays.

Now tonight I'm with 2 new Browncoat friends. Merry Christmas to you both.

JQ, if you come back this evening, I must admit the resemblance is uncanny.
