He also happens to have a lot of concern for (what he sees as) bigger problems in the world. Y'know, stuff the Alliance failed at like public sanity.

What we really need is someone with bajillions of dollars and is willing to ignore the world's troubles in favour of our plight ... then again, F*X's treatment of the 'Verse is nothing short of a crime against humanity, so maybe we'll get some bonus points there.

As for the network owning the rights to the show, the answer would be to have someone buy them back from F*X. Then we could get our series back up and running.

Quick, everyone send DVD sets to Richard Branson!

(Edited to add: actually I'm a big fan of Branson, don't misread - I'm hugely excited by what he's doing with Virgin Galactic. He does seem like the kind of guy who falls in love with a concept and has the money to turn his dreams into reality... which in my eyes is a good thing as well as exactly what our cause needs...)

BSNAKE

Hi,

This is my first post so it may be a bit long.

I'm an avid buyer of DVDs so on one of the many days when I decide to buy them I stumbled upon Serenity. I say stumbled because I, in fact, did stumble on it. Actually, it was the cart at Target that had DVDs some overly-lazy worker had failed to put away. Serenity instantly caught my eye because I love Sci-Fi/Fantasy...everything. And the girl on the cover intrigued me. She looked bad-ass if you will.

So I went home, and watched the movie. I thought it was a well made movie but I didn't understand who any of the characters were other than the fact River was the girl on the cover and she was a psychic/psychotic assassin-type person. (What's in these parenthesis is irrelivant to my story, but I do think that the scene in which River jumped into the closing blast door and wtfpwn3d the horde of Reavers ranks up there with the hallowed Neo wtfpwning the security of the office building scene of The Matrix)

It wasn't until I watched the movie extras that I found out just what Serenity was about. I saw the hordes of people that came to see the actors in the Re-Lighting The Firefly featurette and wanted to know what all the fuss was about. So, 1.5 years later (yesterday morning) I went out and purchased Firefly: The Complete Series.

I sat down to watch it and 12 hours/11 Episodes later I was astounded at how masterful it was. There's no other word I can use to describe it and I also was wondering what the -Insert any number of swear words here- F*x was thinking when they freaking cancelled it!

Every episode played like a movie, and drew me in by the balls making me beg for more. If I didn't have to wake up for work at 2 AM I'd have watched the entire series in one sitting. Sadly though, I did and 3 hours of sleep later I went to work.

Now, here I sit, just completed the greatest TV series ever, which isn't even f'ing complete technically, wanting questions answered, not just one, but MANY!

Who is Book really? Why would the Alliance give him medical attention in a heartbeat after they saw his ID?

Who are the people with the blue hands and rods that make your head implode?

How do Wash and Zoe get married after Zoe's first impression of Wash is pure disgust?

What were the crew of Serenity doing before they became the crew? (More detail damnit!)

Who is Saffron really?

Etc, etc, etc.

Alls I know is I'm going to rewatch Serenity right now, fully understanding who these people are, and am going to love it even more.

Oh, btw I'd gladly have money taken out of my paycheck ever 2 weeks to see the series continue. But as PEPPR91 said, two of the main characters died and I don't know how they could bring back Wash or Book in a realistic way, they're both in their graves at the end of the movie.

Although, if one miracle can happen(Firefly Season 2-x), why can't another? +D

I think the reason it is so personal is that I was able to relate and bond with the charactors. these were not iconic heroic utopian type people but real, common everyday folk.. the kind you could expect to meet everyday on the street of the verse and while they wernt saints they were good people. The other part is the verse was believeable! it really took a bit of getting use to! cowboys in space, but joss's verse is by farthe nearest to something I would expect to see in the future, its the best damn scifi I know to exist. it even puts to shame startrek and battlestar galatica. and for me thats saying alot!
my bigest regret is it took me so long to realize it.

TV shows are like stars in the sky,
most quietly burn out and fade away,
a few explode and are noteworthy
but once every so often a star has the right ingredients and structure and mass and despite all reason refuses to fade away and does something
wonderful...
it explodes into a supernova far outshining a thousand stars and becoming something truely remarkable and precious and enduring.
joss whedon's firefly is such a star.

Welcome Brent.. well put.

That's exactly the way it is for many of us.
I am fond of saying that I was always a Browncoat, I just didn't know it yet. Borrowed that from someone and thank you to them, and it applies to so many of us.

*hands Brent a browncoat*

Gotta have your gear if you're a Browncoat.
We're glad you're here!

Nope, you're not the only one who would enjoy a Spike movie... me too. We're all waiting on Joss' genius to make us some more!

I'll take more Firefly anyway I can get it. Movie, TV show, mini series, straight to DVD, I don't care. I just want more Firefly! I still get the same responce that a lot of you guys get when I show it to someone new. "Why did they cancel this show!?!?!?" I was looking at the tracker for DVD sales on Amazon the other night, and Firefly was still in the top 100 in sales! That is absolutly amazing!!! I think that whenever Joss' schedule clears up a bit, we should all have a day that we buy another set of DVDs. If there is a mass selling of Firefly around that time, that would definatly send a message loud and clear as to what's hot.

Glad you got in a posting mood Slowhand.. we're always glad to see folks join in. Much more fun.. the more the better!

I agree about the buying day again...and for Serenity too. Never hurts to send them the message that we're all still out here.. ( growing too, if all the newbies are an indication! ) and still capable of buying stuff from them.

So, in the title, we can all say: "What about FIREFLY?"
And all write a convincing little bit about it, and why it would make sense to buy the rights. I say buy, because we can get more Firefly if we manage to be able to legally make more Firefly.
Howsabout I per-maybe-haps need to just post this now and get y'all to yell at me as a noob.

We never yell at noobs, Fizzix.. we usually shower you with mudder's milk and strawberries and then give you your very own virtual browncoat.

I've been gone so much because of the holidays, I don't know if I've already greeted you someplace else and given you a 'coat.. but here's one...

*hands Fizzix a browncoat* and we're glad you're here!

We just got done writing SciFi about the Relit idea... but I don't think it hurts a thing if we all haunt the Skiffy board and write to SciFi and tell them, we're here, our numbers are growing and we're out here willing to spend money.

Yeah, I'm trying to walk the thin line between pessimism and hope. I call it hopeism.

I'm there, willing to spend time and and my few $, what do we need to do to get those exec types to understand that we are here and we are real and we will watch and spend out time and money on things Firefly/Serenity?

I can't believe, with all the airtime the originals are getting, that someone would let this opportunity go away. If he's saying as recently as a month ago that he'd do more then there's still hope.

I don't wanna blow up!

Ok, so here's another possible tactic...Yes, Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos, Bigelow Aerospace...All those folks with the big money, and a passion for space. See if we can get them to back Firefly, and then get our BDH's to also do commercials, billboard, etc, to promote the space program of their choice. (There are several private enterprizes, by the way) That way, they are seen all over the place, Firefly gets lots of publicity, my pet project, space, gets a nice boost...I would love to be driving to work, see Jewel, as Kaylee, on a billboard, saying "Join us, out in the black.. Support the space program of your choice." Then a tagline at the bottom that says Firefly, only on Sci-Fi..or whatever. This could be really big for everyone involved.

Rae

BTW, looks like there are 2 people named "Rae" on the board...I'll start signing as Rae Y to be more clear.
