Reavers in the movie would be interesting, but I'd also like to see more of the Alliance brass. And Niska. We definately need to see Michael Fairman as Niska again! He's the scariest villain I've ever seen on network TV, shockingly scary, with the whole ear amputation and such. Frankly I'm suprised they showed that bit...it brings back memories of the stomach-turning "EAR" scene from "Reservoir Dogs". Mr. Niska as Mr. Blonde. Kudos to Mr. Fairman!!!

My point is that a) Joss has already stated that the plot of the movie will revolve around Reavers, and b) with such a large cast, the last thing the movie needs is a confusingly large ensomble of villians.

Like I said earlier, I think the Alliance will probably chase them into Reaver territory, but that's probably as much as you're going to see out of non-Reaver villians.

But look at the Pilot‘s baddies-- we had the Alliance, Revers, Badger, Patience, and blue hand guys in the background. I’m sure we can get more than just Revers in the movie.

I've been out of the loop for a while...Has it been established that all of the crew of serenity are signed on for the film? I remember joss saying that it would be a factor. I 'd hate to think of the boat sailing without Book, or Kaylee, or Wash or well, maybe Inara.

I don't think it's got to the stage of official casting yet, although as you say, Joss has said that the movie has to have the original cast. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that everyone's available!

As far as I know, the only people with other obligations are Nathan Fillion and Morena Baccarin- he has a "talent holding" deal with NBC that probably doesn't restrict him from movie projects, and she has a part on another Fox show which, knowing Fox, won't last too long. I'd say the odds of getting everyone back are pretty good.

What show is Morena supposed to be on? I'd be interested to see her

I don't expect that Nathan's Talent Holding deal will amount to much of a problem, seeing as NBC recently acquired 'Versal Pictures (not to mention the SciFi Channel. Hmmm...).

I for one would love to see a revisiting of the merc captain and his motley crew from Out Of Gas. He had an interesting glint in his eye, and more personality than the part, as mere words on a page, would seem to have demanded. Actually, I rather thought that he was only one or two scruples removed from Mal himself, and thus VERY interesting. Plus, they have some unfinished business...

All the characters will be introduced as though they were new, because to most of the people that see the movie, they WILL be new. In order for it to be the same Jubal Early we know, they would have to tell the story of Objects in Space. Alternatively they could reintroduce him as though OIS never happened, but that would suck, and neither option is a good use of precious movie time.

Personally, I think the best Jubal Early fans can hope for in the movie is a Bobba Fett Episode 4 special eddition-like cameo.

Still Life. I haven't heard much about it lately but it seems to be slated as a mid-season replacement for FOX. IIRC, Marti Noxon has something to do with it.

Okay, messed up my first response.

For Jubal to be in the film I don't think we can pick up the pieces from OIS and for it to make sense to a wider audience. Better to have a past tense Jubal, perhaps glimpses of him at the Academy showing some of his past, just how warped he was and how the programme made him even worse. He would not necessarily actually meet any of the main characters in the film so it would not mess up the series continuity but it would broaden the cloth of the story proper.

I want to see more of what happened to River. Perhaps glimpses of who or what Book really is and why he is on Serenity. His agenda should not be explained as such but little pieces of the puzzle tantalisingly filtering through as the main action of the film unfolds with the Reavers. Better if he keeps some mystery by the end of the film.

I don't want to see Saffron in the movie, I think she will crop up in future episodes of the series if all goes according to plan.

As for making the Reavers scary, I think less is often more and that Joss will stun us into our next incarnations with whatever really wicked stuff he comes up with. Can't wait for the movie. And the tenth character? My money is on Serenity.

DYSTOPIA

I'd love to see Badger and "YoSafBridg" (Saffron) again... and I'm pretty sure we will see them in the BDM... Early... no... Don't get me wrong love the character and the actor, but let's not ruin a good thing... I'd love to see Jonathan M. Woodward (Tracey from "The Message") because he's one of Joss' "hat tricks" and it'd be great to see him again, either as Tracey (in flashbacks) or as a new character...

On the subject of the Reavers though, I hope they leave them to our imaginations. It's like they're are these terrible things that even Big Tough Jayne is scared of, makes us create these horrific images in our heads. It's like Angelus in the cage in season 4 for all the ANGEL fans out there. Angelus was creeping everyone out and he was in a cage, for god's sake. A cage! and he managed to wreak havoc... Plus, it's so Joss to just lead us on and leave us hanging...

At the Fusion con Nathan said Badger and Yosafbridge would NOT be in the film.

Still don't understand why so many people are so intent on seeing Badger, Saffron, Early, etc. in the BDM. Great characters, yes. Feasible for the big screen, no.

I love all three of those characters and most of the other episode guests, but I'd rather see something new, which is what I figure we'll get with The Operative. And if any of the series guests are gonna be in the movie, I'd rather see them in more than just a passing scene. Significant storylines would have to be crafted for them, and those stories have already been told.

Long story short, something new will be more interesting. At least for me.

Does anybody else think that this "Operative" character sounds suspiciously similar to Early? I think maybe he's a sort of big screen "version" of a similar concept. Now, I don't think he'll prove redundant, because Joss is more skillful than that, but think of him as a kind of upgrade.

Meanwhile, I've also heard it stated definitively that Badger and Saffron will not be in the movie. Saffron is all for the better; that'd be too much. Badger, though, would be a delight, and it's too bad we won't see him.

Meanwhile, notice in the imdb.com listings that we're dealing with a metric ton of new characters, so there won't be time to bring people back.

The pilot did feature conflict with Alliance, Reavers, and other criminals... and I thought it was a bit too much.

So... I'm guessing no Badger, no Saffron, no Early (too similar to the Operative), no Niska (too much villainy)... which leaves... who, exactly? Blue Hands?

That would be SO AWESOME if any of the Buffy or Angel people had cameos. It would make sense considering Zoe was on Angel for a while. Come on Joss, DO IT!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Nathan said at Dragon Con earlier this month that there will be no cameos by David B of Angel or anyone else from BtVS or Angel will be doing a cameo of any kind in the BDM.

Wow. Old thread.
