Maybe we can do for firefly what fans did for Star Trek

I just saw the "Serenity" movie on DVD and in a bonus section, Joss said that there was no simple saleable premise--I strongly disagree! Star Trek, Star Wars, et.al. require that you travel faster than light or through hyperspace so that you can travel between Solar Systems; Firefly/Serenity doesn't depend on that. The simple saleable premise in the Firefly/Serenity universe is that we currently have the technology to send 'generation' ships to a star than has many habitable planets and in 500 years we could certainly develop terraforming science.

All fiction is about 'suspension of disbelief' and you have less disbelief to suspend in the 'Firefly' universe than you have in a typical SciFi universe. Modify the "Serenity" 'teacher' speech and do it as a voiceover intro to a prequel to the series that shows that Earth's entire Solar System was used up so we sent ships out looking for other solar systems. The prequel would follow the development of ONE solar system and how it lead to the 'War between the States'.

Then run all the firefly episodes in the CORRECT order, without the extra blurb at the beginning that wasn't on the DVDs. If the prequel was done as well as "Serenity", the series could be revived.

actually we are!
Star Trek's fans simply didn't go away...
they had conventions and they just never lost interest....

one one hand they had the good luck to have had enough episodes to be syndicated on just about every independent TV station across the country,
on the other hand we do have sci-fi channel replaying Firefly occassionally and we got a movie a good ten years before the Trekkies did!

The best thing we can do is to continue to enjoy the show and the fandom. Luckily we do have another (too short) set of comics coming out next Spring...
