I was going through the community here and saw so many users that I had to wonder...how did all of them get hooked on the Firefly series? So that is the question up for discussion in this thread...How did you first get hooked on the greatest TV series of all time, Firefly?

I bought Serenity because I love Buffy & Angel . I watched it about 5 or 6 times & then when shopping for Buffy season 7 , I bought the series on a whim.About halfway through the pilot I was entranced and the rest is history !

My dad and my brother had seen Serenity and loved it. Then when they found it was based on a series they got it too. Then once I walked in while they were watchin an episode....and ended up watching the entire thing...
Ever since then I've been addicted to it!

TRAVELER

I'm sure my story is about like most here. I got a glimpse of the show while channel surfing. Saw Ron Glass and knew it must be good. But I could never find Firefly again. It may have been the last episode they aired. Years went by and I went to a Best Buy Store to pick up some DVD's for my new player and I saw this set of DVD's for Firefly. My dim memory told me this was that show I saw many moons ago and I bought it with fingers crossed. Good fortune smiled on me and I had Firefly with all that talent in my hands. I soon realized there must be more information on Firefly in the internet. Well here I am.

I was lucky enough to see it from the git-go. I didn't realize how hooked I was until my VCR didn't tape "Ariel". I almost cried, and watched every episode after. I almost wore out my tapes waiting for the DVDs to come out!

Last Christmas my brother initiated me. He tried to get me to watch the pilot, and I didn't get into it very much. Then he switched his attack and got me to watch Serenity. Then, I was hooked. For my birthday in July he gave me the boxed set and I have been hooked ever since. I just can't stop watching and hoping there will be more.

Well I saw the reruns on SciFi, liked it. Thought this is ok, good, Gorram good, and Bam I was hooked. The A team caper with Big Jayne trapped in the airlock at the end of the Ariel ep. I said wow shiny. I think its the best of all time. Alias Smith and Jones when I was little reminds of this show. Another short lived due to the death of Pete Duel but the cult following was big at the time brought hippies back to westerns. Stargate got better and better. Rockford Files, Magnum, WKRP, and of course Barney Miller I figure for me are the best tv ever. But FF resonates on every core with me just luv everything about it. It would have to come back now as a complete new series because the BDM change the seasons of what would have been. How did I live before it.

You wanna leave this room.

Only one way to get hooked, watch an epsiode, I watched Buffy on and off but was not impressed by the trailers for Firefly and so never watched it, then my mate dragged me to see Serenity and I thought it was great but still was not inclined to pick up the series, but I set it in my mind to try and pick it up at some point. I finally saw am episode on Sci Fi (Bushwacked) and in less than two hours I had the box set, with in a week I had two, one to watch and one to lend! I just wished they had played the trailer to the shows strength, I would have been hooked from the word go!!

My daughter brought the DVDs home the Spring before the BDM. Her boyfriend had loaned them to her. I think the 1st ep I saw was the opening of OMR & I said," What the Hell is that?" Pretty quick we bought our own set of DVDs, just about wore the spot off 'em.

I was hooked way before I even saw it, before I even knew it existed. I am a massive fan of Film and TV, a big fan of Joss Whendon and an even bigger fan of Sci Fi and I love Westerns… What really hooked me though was the first five minutes of Serenity

Posted it before, but it's still true, and you asked.
Surfing one evening, and caught Kaylee & Mal walking into The Party during Shindig. Westerny, Kaylee doesn't quite fit with Mal (as a couple), Ohhh she works for him. How does he know the stunner dancing with the jerk? Have to watch this...
I was never much into Mr. Whedon's other work. Saw less than a handful of Buffy episodes, and even fewer of his other show. Firefly just hooked me, and never dissapointed.

Well it started when the wife and I rented he BDM. The visual effects were great. I really felt there was something different about the show when Wash brings Serenity up over the hill while the MULE is be chased by reavers. The image of Serenity hovering there with the big moon behind in broad daylight really got to me.

Then we rented the BDS. During the pilot eps when Kaylee bites the BDS (big damn strawberry)the wife and I lol. The show has such a great sence of humor and makes fun of itself all the time. Yepper we are FF fans for life.

I never liked Buffy or Angel much and didn't even know who this 'whedon' guy was... then saw an ad in the newspaper showing a cracker of a girl holding a sword and an axe and thought 'she looks good and thank god, at last a new sci-fi movie that isn't based on a tv series!'... enjoyed the BDM and then a colleague told me there was a series... I bought it, my wife was away, so I spent three very long and very happy evenings discovering the 'Verse and forgetting to eat.

Took me six months to get the Mrs to watch FF (helped by her friends at work telling her it was great) now we are both hooked (me more though!)

Okay my turn. I was channel surfing on SciFi when I came across an episode (I cannot remember for the life of me which one). I loved it, saw at least one more (Heart of Gold).

However, I have a history of being too busy to pay attention and catch any tv show, as well I have a history of liking tv shows that get cancelled (like Harsh Realm). Thus I thought nothing more of it.

Then I heard about Serenity and it all came back! Well, what few episodes I had seen. Admittedly, I didn't like the movie as much as the series but good nonetheless.

Finally this past summer it came up while talking to my friend. He said he owned the series! I had to see the rest of the series.

Then I got the job I have now (though it is temporary, I leave in one week because it is with Canada World Youth an exchange program; like the Peace Corps of Canada). With this job I do not have a lot to do, but I have the internet. I started searching Firefly and BAM! Here I am. Still flying, still holding.

STOWEAWAY

My husband saw the ads for the show when it first came on. He was stoked about it -- I couldn't care less. Then I realized that Nathan Fillion was in it. So I watched -- every single episode. It's the first time I had ever made an effort to watch TV on a Friday night.

I saw the trailers for Serenity and wanted to see the movie, believing it couldn't be better than the earlier released Star Wars. Boy, was I wrong. I loved Serenity. A week later I'm in NYC and going to Spamalot and see Alan in the play. So after the show I made my friends hang around the stage door for autographs and Pictures. I was so excited and my friends "didn't get it." Wanted to see the movie again but it was out of the theaters.....
Got the DVD, watched the extras and discovered this fan base and there was a TV Show. WOW! Bought the Firefly DVD and realized I did see a couple of the episodes and did like the series but again it was gone. Since then been reading everything and anything on the internet about Joss, Browncoats and of course the BDH. I've never been more passionite about a TV show/Movie like I have with this.

Friends, who knew that I liked Buffy, watched the BDM and then the series and told me I should do it right. I bought both (they had pirated versions and I do not hold with that) and waited for my husband to take the kids on vacation so I'd be able to devote time.

Meanwhile, another friend was telling me that I had to watch this series Firefly.

Meanwhile off on vacation, my husband saw Serenity on the Space channel and had another friend show him Serenity, the pilot.

A perfect storm of "You have to watch this."

Alias Smith and Jones! OMG, PirateCat, I loved that show. I didn't realize that was why it was cancelled. I still remember them eating around a campfire and one saying, "Did you shoot this chicken or just run it to death?"

And of course, Barney Miller is now #2 on my list. Wanna know what's #1?

..a friend of mine at work went to see the movie "Serenity" in Nashville and came back and told me I would love it. Never did come to the theaters close by my teeny-tiny town. Saw it finally on HBO; Couldn't believe how wonderful it was ...raved to my husband who then bought me the DVD's of "FIREFLY" greatest television show ever produced...and we proceeded to watch the entire series over a two day stretch...have since watched it three times again...it's been on SCIFI marathon and I was "sick" from work and had every single, (well, three) TV's playing it that day...and have since bought the entire DVD collection of FIREFLY (greatest television show ever produced) and the movie for my sister...AND we're getting it for husand's brother for Xmas... so...that's how I found the series/film and now I'm obsessed and Joss Whedon is a right bastard for invading my dreams. I've been a fan since the beginning, you see I am one for giving any new series a chance. Well from the 1st episode my wife and I were hooked. As I review some or your comments on when your were introduced to this great masterpiece , I noticed that a vast majority were after the series and ran it's course, and it was the movie that got you interested. Not sure what happened and why this show did not make it, but I can tell you this. Everyone, and I do mean everyone that I have introduced this series, LOVED IT. I don't know what coulds have been done different to ensure the series survival , but I do know this, in my opinion this is the best TV Series/Movie I have had the pleasure of seeing. It's truly a work of art. Thanks, for listening.

Co-worker gave me the box set of dvd's but after one month of sitting on my shelf, we never watched them. We recorded Serenity when it aired in HD on HBO. Watched it. Wanted more. Asked for the box set again. Watched the entire series in four or five days. Now we're watching the episodes again on Universal-HD.

Would love to see the series come to HD-DVD. Would buy a few just to share with friends.

Thanks for the best show we've seen in years.

I am a pure movie convert. I saw the preview and wanted to see it badly, which is rare. Saw it, loved it, found out from various sources there was a show, loved that too

And I think the show is going to be released on HD-DVD. Right? I heard that a little while ago.
