Oh, I guess I missed this thread for the past few days...huh!

That was not my doing at all. I'm pretty sure you know why I left early. Besides, my calm had been damaged beyond repair, and I would not have wanted y'all to meet that version of me. This time, I will be going single, though! And I will be carrying around a number of pictures of you and comparing them to everyone I see!

And I agree with RIMG...I am just offering my services in any capacity during the conflict. Merely seeing it will be enough for me!

EngineAngel, you must make it again! I enjoyed meeting you, and would love to see you again!

WW, thanks for the update on the SEBC table. I know that was a good rallying point last year!

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

Maybe we could use the fight proceeds toward a break in the room rates? Better still, since it would be a major attraction maybe the Hotels could pick up the complete tab?

I like the idea of getting the hotels to pick up the tabs of the ladies involved in the fight, or at the very least the proceeds going toward their lodging and other expenses for the weekend, although from last year's experience the from the Hyatt might be violently opposed to it.

CANTER

I desperately want to join one of these con's but I'm not sure how to arrange it.

I've been looking for flights from SA to Atlanta. There isn't any.

So which international airport would be closest thereto?

And how much money would I need to survive for a weekend. How many dollars would I need to buy food etc for such a weekend? I can calculate the costs of the airfare, the hotels and the membership, but I don't know what you can buy (foodwise) for a dollar. I found out while I was in England that currency conversions do not always equate to cost of living conversions.
(While I could at that time get almost R11 for a pound, I could not buy stuff for 1 pound what I would buy in SA for R11.)

So, if I was to live off take out for the whole weekend, how much money would I need?

I'm thinking we'll rise again!

As far as your flight plans go, you might need to look for a connecting through somewhere like New York (I'm surprised you can't fly into a huge airport like Atlanta). As far as food goes, hmmm....that's a little bit harder. If you're set on "decent" meals through the weekend (and you're alone), I'd say $50-$65US a day. If you're fine with fast food from the food court in the mall, probably around $20-$40US a day. That's also if you plan on eating 3 meals, which (really) is a pipe dream, as there's so much stuff going on. I think there's also a grocery store nearby, where you could you buy supplies to stash in your room and carry around with you (bring a BIG bag). Both the Hilton & Marriott also have shops where you can get soda, water, snacks, etc.

For all Congoers! In the Marriott, at the little Bistro on the floor above the lobby, they serve a croissant sandwich during breakfast that I highly recommend. It's around $7US, but it's huge and fills me up straight through to dinner. Just a little tip from me to you. (Although woe to you in '07 if they sell out before I get down there!)

in the food court, if you're careful, you can get by with $5 US for a meal. chinese food is fairly cheap, and you get alot for your money. slice of pizza is $2-3, depending on what topping you want. and, as mentioned before, the con suite is always happy to feed you! as to flights - you're sure SA doesn't go to atlanta? how about miami, with connect flight, or even the train? i'm not real sure of airports down south, but georgia is the next state north of florida, so it would be a quick hop. new york is a LITTLE out of the way.

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson is the international airport right in the city. It surprises me that you can't get a flight into there, but if you can't, the next closest international airport would be Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) in South Carolina or Charlotte Douglas (CLT) in North Carolina. I know both of those airports have connections into Atlanta. The next big one would be Orlando (MCO) in Florida, also with a connection to Atlanta. If you can't get a flight into any of those, I'd bet you would have to fly into Miami or Philadelphia.
