SIRI

It looks as if there are newbies (like me) coming on board all the time - Any suggestions as to how and what we can do at this point to help the mission - which I assume to be getting FF back on and/or Serenity II made? Maybe you can point us to a thread or something. Always seems helpful to ask rather than reinvent the wheel or waste time trying things that aren't helpful.

CANTER

This is a good question.

I also got to the site a little late, and it seemed that all the battles had been fought, and the line now seems to be to wait and see.

I'm pushing the Voting thing. That's all I can think of to keep Firefly in the public eye.

I would also suggest a Browncoat mailing list, or just some sort of central site where all Browncoats could be directed to to register, so we can get a sense of how many we are, even if those BC's aren't regulars on sites like these.

I wish I new enough about websites to organise something like that. And then we would be able to post on all the fan boards and invite Browncoats to register, and to get their Browncoat friends and family who aren't on the boards, to also register.

And then, when we know how many we are, we could start planning campaigns.

I looked into Bonanza and Xena's websites, to see how they are organised, and man, they've got us beat.

You should check out the Guerilla Marketing category. There's tons of great ideas floating around there. Recruiting new Browncoats is always a great way to spread the word.
And, of course, there's the Serenity Now/Equality Now fundraisers that will happen next June. It's a long way away but some groups are already planning. Perhaps you can volunteer in your area.
There's plenty of other ways to help, that's just a few off the top of my head.

See if there is a local Browncoat group in your area. Join up or just read their websites.

http://www.bigdamnboard.com/websites/groups/

Universal let gossi take over the Offical Universal Serenity Browncoat board If you click
on the Join the Browncoats link on http://serenitymovie.com/ it takes you to

http://serenitymovie.org/

Since you are registered here, you might want to also register there. gossi does have the ability to send out emails to all the members if he thinks something is important enough. He doesn't spam us. I think I got 1 email since Universal gave him the official site. Universal let him archive the old website and at that time there were 77298 members. And because of privacy issues, they could not give him the membership lists.

There are 7,353 now. Way less than here. I think over 20,000 here on http://www.fireflyfans.net

Watch Lost Wednesday. Nathan (Our Captain) Fillion will be on it. If you know anyone who watches LOST, mention that the guy who played Kevin was in Serenity the movie and Firefly the TV series. Have you seen his recent movie SLiTHER out on DVD now. Next movie: White Noise: The Light theater release date January 5, 2007 UK USA.

See if your library carries Serenity and Firefly. Fill out a purchase request form or see if they take donations. Just snuck some DVDs into the local Senior Center today. Heh.

Watch Firefly when it comes on the Sci-Fi channel in December or on Universal Hd TV if you have it.

Charity Serenity Screenings website. 5 organizers already signed up for June 23, 2007 Serenity Charity Screenings. http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/

Charity Serenity and regular Serenity Screenings can happen anytime. If you know 25 people who want to see Serenity, a theater might be convinced to play Serenity. Browncoats know how to shindig and theaters make most of their money from food and drink. Charity screenings take a bit more effort to organize.

For example 6 theaters so far are screening Serenity in NOV. 1 Charity Serenity screening just happened today.

SIRI

Anonymous1 - thanks a bunch! I've already done some of these things - but this is really helpful. Coming into this movement so late in the game it takes a bit to discover where best to put one's energies and resources. This is the first time I've gotten myself involved in something like this.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site and the fandom Siri. We're glad to have you here with us.

The best thing you can do to help is to spread the word. By introducing new fans we get more people interested in seeing a sequel to the BDM. The more people that we get hooked, the more series and movie dvds that get sold, the more "official" merchandise that gets sold, the better our odds of a sequel. If you have the dvds then show them to everyone you know. Show them to family, friends, neighbors, fellow students, whoever.

Voting for Firefly and Serenity is another way to spread the word. The better our show & movie fair in polls the more attention they garner from new people. The more people that give it a shot the more fans we get to welcome onboard.

Good luck and be sure to keep us up to date on how you do.

SISTER

Hi Siri - another thing I do almost everyday is check the Whedonesque site for ANY news. I am relatively new here as well; but did see the movie FIRST...then the series...then got the books in time to attend my first Dragon*Con in Atlanta this year. Amazing how many browncoats were there!..plus plenty of shiney vendors from which to buy t-shirts (for me and mine!)..to wear and show support. I also joined Sci-Fi.com to register on the Firefly/Scifi hear us" thread to beg/cajole/whine about brining back FF! I don't know how much good it does, but it is AT LEAST something to do. Years (and boy, do I mean YEARS ago) I used to work at a TV station in Louisville, KY and the crew would tape the old, old Battlestar Galactica so we could watch it after work...we were prehistoric geeks!...and they brought THAT show back...maybe, maybe..hope she is a harsh mistress.

Wow! What a list... never seen one so complete! Great job Anonymous1. A one page website with that as the front page (updated as needed) would be pretty gorram shiny...
