"Look at me! I'm going to make a thread so that everybody knows
exactly what I think and where I stand and so that I can judge people
by when or how they respond. The whole world knows what [happened yesterday]. . .but
just in case anybody doesn't, I assume it's my responsibility to fill
them in."

Just joining the octobitch club. Sorry.

hm. but tell me how you really feel.

those threads are more about sharing reactions and feelings on something...
or they should be, anyway.
this is, after all, something of a community.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

I remember I was young when it happened. Maybe 10.

I saw Three's Company for the first time.

"Why doesn't he splack those gals?" I wondered.

"I think he really IS gay," I thought.

Fond memories of an innocent time.

John Ritter will be missed.

Johnny Cash was a legend and my hero. He will be sorely missed. Thanks, Johnny. 1932-2003

Nobody ever wants to see anyone pass away, but I do believe Johnny Cash was ready or at least prepared, not planning on it just prepared.

As for John Ritter.....that's just tragic, there & gone in a moment. I wanted to say he seemed so young. Maybe a little older than I thought, but still so full of life.

I guess it's all just...sad.

Ya' know, after June Carter, Johnny Cash's wife, died 4 months ago. I wondered how long it would be for Johnny. He was fighting illness after illness, so I knew it wasn't long for him, but after his wife died, I figured he'd give up the fight. He loved her so much. I'm sorry to see that I may have been right.

John Ritter's death was more shocking to me than heartbreaking. You're right, Stillshiny, no one wants to see anyone get called Home, but John Ritter's death didn't sadden me the same way. Terrible and shocking, of course, but it didn't have the same effect on me. Johnny Cash was Johnny Cash.

Come home, come home. It's suppertime.
The shadows lengthen fast.
Come home, come home. It's suppertime.
We're going home, at last.

Never listened to much of his music. I grew up in the Pacific NW during the grunge & alternative era. Didn't really gain an appreciation for the man's music till I moved to OK. My best friend loves Johnny Cash. My fondest memories of Johnny Cash is the different projects he did with U2. They had tremendous love & respect for him. And, so do I.

hey, we're still flyin'

It's like a giant, twisted, screaming train wreck of sarcasm. I can't not watch.

Grr. Argh. Now I'm "that guy", which was the anti-point of the whole thread. My comeuppance is complete. I expect karmic retribution will follow.

see what I mean.

it's ok to have feelings on things and to share them here.
if we didn't, the whole forum would be pretty pointless. wouldn't it?

HJERMSTED

Woke up this morning to KEXP 90.3 fm in Seattle. They played five or six Johnny Cash songs in a row without comment so I figured The Man in Black must have passed on. Sure enough at the end of that set of songs DJ John Richards announced that Cash had passed on. The last song of the set was "The Man Who Could Not Cry" and being half asleep, I began creating a movie in my head that went along with the lyrics. For some reason Ben Kingsley was the star..

Anyway, I truly enjoyed the cover songs Cash recorded the past ten years or so, most notably his version of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and NIN's "Hurt". Those recordings did their job and made me more interested in the Cash legacy. Knowing now just some of the things he created accomplished over the last four generations of music has made it easier to see where his fingerprints are on our popular culture. It's truly quite impressive!

RIP Man In Black!!
Rest assured if Johnny Cash was in Firefly, he'd be The Man in Brown. A true renegade and pure artist.

Johnny is exactly the sort of guy who would have made a great guest star on Firefly back in the day when his health would allow.

John R. Cash was a giant among men from his earliest work to his American Recordings (I was particularly found of his cover of U2's "One")

Now he's graduated.

Godspeed Johnny. Reunited with June and the pill won't chase you know more - I know you are happy.

"Why we still discussin' this?"
