I put on a Serenity screening last summer at the local theater with an okay turn out. This year i'm thinking about doing it again but this time i intend to go to a local comic shop and try to get the manager to let me put on a Firefly day/days where the series will be shown, and then have the movie a few towns away where they have a drive-in theater. I plan on advertising on the radio as a public service announcement and do the fliers i did last year. does this sound like a good idea to anyone? please respond.
thanks

SIRI

Hi,
I'm interested in how this turns out for you. I'd like to try to do something similar in my town/city. It sounds like a way to get the word out to my but I suspect there are a number of other folks here who have been down this road a time or two.

Good luck!

Siri

Castle,

Sounds great. Drive-in Serenity. Wish I could go. Only thing better would be IMAX.

Is your screening going to be a regular Serenity screening or a Charity Serenity Screening?

There are already 5 organizers signed up at
http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/
for the charity screenings around June 23, 2006.

June 2006 there were two Charity Serenity Screenings in WI

Milwaukee WI (US) raised $1,400.00
Madison WI (US) Doesn't say how much was raised.

The 'Can't Stop The Serenity' screenings for Equality Now were an unqualified success. Organizers held events in 47 cities around the world, raising over $65,000 for the women's rights advocacy group.

There is going to be a charity screening in
SC next Tuesday.Tuesday, November 7, 2006, 7:30 PM
Cherrydale Cinemas, Greenville, SC (US)

and a regular screening on the 10th in
New York Landmark Sunshine Cinema 12:00am

Whoo-hoo! Serenity keeps flying.

This is an excellent idea. Not only seeing Serenity on the big screen, but the gathering of Browncoats. It is always good to meet some of the faces of people you share something with.

Best of luck with your plans;

Traveler

the event, if i can pull it off, wouldn't be until some time next summer. no point in a drive in theater with a foot of snow on the windshield. I'm kind of friends with the owner of the local comic shop, so that means i'm just a regular, and i know he was lent the series but hasn't gotten around to seeing it. They had an Uwe Boll-fest there once so how hard could it be, right?
Last year was for charity, but with a little more than a month from conception to execution i didn't get the advertising i wanted and only raised a few hundered dollars.
I'm thinking about even going so far as to give away "door" prizes at the screening. things like a copy of Firefly, a Serenity poster, and (if i can find the girl who made them localy) one of Jayne's hats. I really wanna go all out.

any other questions just ask, i'll look at this again tomarrow.

P.S. if you don't know who Uwe Boll is, be happy.
