Oh, Chris, don't forget the outtakes and the gag reel and "I'm Bill Pardy". Worth the price of the DVD alone and then you get "Slither" on top of that!!

Nathan does an amazing job in this movie and he and James Gunn and the rest of the cast are just too much fun.

My husband hates these kinds of movies, but indulges me... we went to see this in the theater ( of course ) and he loved it. Laughed so hard he almost fell out of his chair.

We watched it after buying the DVD for Halloween.
Just as great the second time around!

Our Cappy is a brilliant actor.

I hate to say I hated the movie.

I couldn't stop laughing, the effects were great, and it was just fun all around. It ruined further flics that don't have Nathan Fillion in them. We need more Fillion.

But at least we got a fix to hold us over until White Noise 2.

I posted earlier that I got ripped off and got sent a pirate copy. I thought I bought the real thing and ended up with crap.

But I *really* wanted to watch Nathan again, and it was fun seeing him say stuff that I don't know by heart.... (I've watched ff & the BDM too often and now know the dialogue by heart. It's creepy, I know)

So I watched the gorram pirate dvd. Everything was in black and white, which of course made the gore less gorey. Trust me, blood and guts is not intimidating when shown in black and white.

Just too bad the dvd didn't have any extras on. I'm still looking for a shop that sells the original. Not gonna take a chance on online shops again.

Am I the only person who was SEVERELY disappointed in that movie? The writing was terrible. They just jacked the character of Mal from Firefly, diluted it and skewered it by the lack of Joss's writing voice, and decided that would be Fillion's character. There were two jokes that were funny. The special effects were terrible. The story was worthless.

I wanted to see Fillion in a good movie so that his reputation would be bolstered and more works would be in store for him. Instead I saw a terrible movie that held him back.

I mean, one of the jokes in there is just a zooming in, "holy sh*t". Sorry if Firefly spoiled me with creative jokes and organic characters, but that struck me as terrible. And most of the movie was like that.

See I saw this sorta in the vein of Shaun of the Dead and Army of Darkness...sorta comedy-horror-spoofs type deals.

Yeah...the writing was a little iffy but the movie didn't take itself seriously...it was a comedy...that had creepy things in it.

COME ON...he gets speared in the stomach and walks away from it...get real...internal bleeding would lead to death...duh...but that's not the point...the point is...its a goofy movie.

If this movie was really trying to be serious...then I'd worry...

xitwound117,

Did you watch all the DVD extras yet and the commentary with Director James Gunn and Nathan? Lots of Nathan in the extras. They had so much fun making this movie.

I thought the movie was funnier the second time I saw it because I wasn't so worried about what was going to happen next. So relieved when someone said Awesome.

The movie was already written before Nathan got the part and Nathan was the last person cast in the movie. Director/writer James Gunn knows Joss...I can't remember the connection. Friends or relatives??

The similarities with Mal I think are caused by Nathan and our familiarity with Mal. The character Bill Pardy is totally different than Mal. He's clumsy. He has an easy going nature. "My easy goin' nature is being sorely ****** tested." He is a slacker. He has never had to do anything real hard in his entire life and he has no idea what to do. He has no ambition. He almost gets taken out by a deer. Not very good at planning. Bill Pardy is not a survivor of the fittest person. Mal is. Mal or Zoe or Jayne around and the slugs would have been toast.

I second all of that, Anony1.

SLiTHER was spoof horror.
Pure cheesy, slimy, latex-y zombified spoof.

Nathan was cast late in the proceedings.
I got *no* Captain vibes from his performance.
He got excellent reviews even from critics
who weren't nuts about the movie.
There's a vast collection of links to said
reviews posted on the NA thread at our other
home-board.

I saw the movie in a theater and jumped even
when I knew what was going to happen.

Sorry if anyone didn't like it -- chacun a son

I'm gonna 3rd that, Anonymous. I really think it takes a second or third viewing to fully appreciate the fun-ness and intent of the film, though. The first time I saw it in the theatres, I had no idea what to expect. Is this horror? Should I laugh? Is this supposed to be dramatic or believable?
Then the second and several times after, I could just sit and enjoy the ridiculousness. It's just a fun movie- and that's all James Gunn wanted to do: Make a movie like the ones he loved growing up- a cheesy, yet still suspenseful, monster-type film.
And, yeah, he had no idea who to cast as Bill Pardy. I think Gunn said Nathan was the last to be cast- and that he nailed how he pictured the character all through the writing process.

I've been reading James Gunn's blog for a while so the movie was about what I expected. James Gunn has the sense of humour of an adolescent boy and is clearly no Joss.

I don't think SLiTHER is a masterpiece or destined to become a classic. For example, Ghostbusters is a mega-hit comedy horror that stands up very well. Aliens, meanwhile, is so creepy that I can't watch it again.

But I did enjoy SLiTHER for Nathany-goodness and some very cute moments. It's not the breakout that we'd hoped but solid reviews can only help.

I would never act on it, FMF. I totally respect the holy bonds of imaginary engagements.

But I admit that I have sinned in my heart.

For AKRedHead, who requested more of the Icons:
This is all the guy had, a few memorable quotes:

"But you sleep like a ghost with me
It's as simple as that
So tell me I'm mad
Roll me up and breathe me in
Come to my madness
My opium den
Come to my madness
Make sense of it again."
Goodbye to all that. III-The Opium Den (Brave)-Marillion
