Are the soundtracks that are available good? I'm sure I'll get all kinds of opinions. I read some reviews that said the soundtrack for Serenity didn't jive with the movie. Still I'll probably by it because I thought the music was great.

Also, I've been listening to Yo0Yo Ma's Silk Road Journeys "When Strangers Meet" and "Beyond the Horizon." The music reminds me of some of the Firefly stuff. Has anyone listened to them and found a similiarity?

One more thing - my computer was slow when I added new spyware protection and I kept hitting submit and accidentialy posted a response about 5 times. Does anyone know how to delete those duplicate (well actually quadruplicate) posts?

Thanks a bunch. Loving my new browncoat - wear it everywhere!.

I like both the Firefly and Serenity soundtrack CDs. A lot. Many 'coats say they enjoy the Firefly CD more. It's true that the BDM ST has more music of the "background" variety between the major highlights, but I like a lot of that stuff too.

Just be sure to buy the Firefly CD, rather than downloading from Fox Music. Better audio quality and something like seven more tracks.

Sorry, I don't know that music.

However, on an earlier thread about music reminiscent of Firefly, somebody suggested the bluegrass-pop band Nickel Creek. I tried one of their CDs and now I'm a huge fan. You might want to check out the samples on Amazon, or just order up their first album (still one of the best) and give it a whirl.

You can't delete the extra posts, but you can edit them to say "Oops, double post" or something of the sort.

I don't know about those other songs but the 2 soundtracks are definitly worth buying. I bought the BDM soundtrack first as it was easier to find and loved it. Then I bought Firefly and thought it was even better. You wont be disappointed.

You should also get the Done the Impossible soundtrack . Some great FF/Serenity fan-made tunes there , much better than anyone would dare imagine ! A good sampler from all over , with Bedlam Bards and other Firefly fan-music makers .

My favorite song is the one by Michelle Dockery , " Mal's Song " , which is a take-off from the Ballad of Serenity . Very stirring , and Michelle's voice is gorgeous .

Dan Sehane's song , " I'm Gonna See Serenity " is infectious . There are a lot of laughs to be had from the DTI soundtrack . You should order it and the Done the Impossible DVD at the same time and save on shipping .

Still Flyin ' !

I have to say that the music of Firefly is one of the things that just pulls you in.

It seems to be an amalgamation of Bluegrass, Irish fiddle, and Country and Western (love the slide steel guitar at just the right moment) and it is very good.

I will probably pick up both soundtracks.

I'm a massive soundtrack buyer especially sci-fi ones like Serenity,Firefly,all the Star Wars,Superman,E.T.,Close Encounters,Wing Commander,The Matrix,Die Another Day,Men In Black,Batman(1989),Batman Begins,Thunderbirds(movie & series),Captain Scarlett,Edward Scissorhands,Stargate,V For Vendetta ,& many more

My favorite is Serenity,Firefly
would be my 3rd favorite after Wing Commander(everybody should have it).

Reviewers are pompous stupid assholes when it comes to soundtracks,Serenity is brilliant so is Firefly they are must haves for any Browncoat.

got 'em both and love 'em.

On the parallel music point - I would recommend Seth Lakeman, he is an English (in fact a Cornish to be precise) modern-folk musician and his music had a real similarity to the Firefly music - expecially 'Storm' and 'Sape Clear' on his album Kitty Jay - have a listen at his myspace website http://www.myspace.com/sethlakeman

when discussing soundtracks, it is important to keep in mind that the "soundtrack" is a listing of individual songs that may or may not have made it into the movie.

the "musical score" is the verbatim sound that plays as the movie is progressing. only some movies (i.e. epic blockbusters such as the LOTR trilogy)have the musical score available on cd.

I'm one that doesn't really like the Serenity CD. I would say it's worth buying it for songs 3,4, 20-end. The rest is blah. The recording levels are horrible...you won't be able to hear anything and then BLAM! you get blasted with intense "the Reavers are chasing us" music.

Noticeably missing is the treatment of the Ballad of Serenity that is the last thing on the credits. I was extremely bummed that it wasn't on there.

On the other hand, I love the Firefly soundtrack. I love how when it was produced, they (Greg Edmundson, I'm assuming) put pieces together so instead of a huge collection of 20 second blips you get actual "songs" that musically fit with each other.

Of course, I'm just one person, with one opinion, but I would buy Firefly and download (legally, of course) the 6 or seven good songs from Serenity.

I have the Firefly soundtrack and like it...but the songs are awful short and some seem a little different (such as the Jubal Early theme when he's sneaking onto the ship....the one with the oboes). There's also no "Hero of Canton" on it :(.

I haven't purchased the Serenity soundtrack due to some comments that it was too "movie backgroundish", but I did record the Ballad of Serenity from the DVD during the credits, what a great piece.

I also have the Donetheimpossible DVD and I similarly ended up recording the one song during it's credits ("Trilogy...Trilogy...I want my Trilogy").

It kills me everytime I hear it.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your recommendations. I'm going to buy Firefly and Serenity soundtracks as well as the Donetheimpossible one. I find myself humming the Firefly theme without even realizing it.

I'm having a bit of trouble locating Done the Impossible.

God I love this place! Feels like I've come home at last! Am I sounding dorky or what?

I listen far more to the Firefly soundtrack than that of Serenity, but both are amazing. There are some tracks that I just listen to over and over.
Next on my list to get is the Done the Impossible soundtrack. Looks great!

HISTORY

I have the "Firefly" and "Serenity" soundtracks, also the Bedlam Bards' "Into the Drift" tribute CD, and the "Done the Impossible" CD as well.
Similarly, I have favorites among all these albums and have downloaded them to a Firefly file on my MP3 player. And also dowloaded the acoustic version of "The Ballad of Serenity" from the closing credit's of our BDM [See: Serenity Closing Credits Acoustic Ballad (hi-quality) - from umdesch4 under " Firefly/Serenity music covers or other" near the bottom of the page]: http://www.fashionablybrown.com/fbsound.htm
There is an alternate version you can hear on The Second Season of "The Signal" Podcasts [ http://signal.serenityfirefly.com/ ] and even an acoustic version of the "Serenity theme" [#12]. "The Signal" has great Firefly/Serenity music selections--but it seems they are restricted in creating a file of all the music they've premiered (some being provided by Universal with restrictions), though fans could sift through the podcasts to do so, for personal use. Unfortunately, I have not the time or knowhow, but I'd love this. I do love the music of the 'Verse.

Respectfully,

this may not be as close of a fit as some things already mentioned but if you like good fiddle playing to contemporary music (metal, actually), I would highly recommend the "Reflections" album
by Apocalyptica.

Actually there is a band called Flyleaf, they are alt rock and can get pretty heavy. while there is no specific reference to Firefly/Serenity I get a distinctly River vibe off the frontwoman.

I guess I have Firefly to thank for my recent interest in "roots" music, especially the old Appalachain/country/celtic tunes and also the music of recent films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The House of Flying Daggers. When I'm in a "Firefly" mood, I like to listen to the those soundtracks as well as the sountracks to Cold Mountain and Songcatcher.

I'm right there with you, friend. I was a bit disappointed with the soundtrack from Songcatcher ss the artists weren't the same as in the movie. The soundtack from O Brother Where Art Thou is another good one.

OK - I'm getting ready to watch "The Message." Another sad but good one. Well, they're all good ones.
