PHOENIXSHIP

Just wondering if anyone else out there notices how slow the site is sometimes lately?

Have we been asking too much of Haken and his equipment? Is it time for us to pony up and buy a new setup? Shouldn't we get him something? A marble rye? A black and white cookie?

I Don't know if this has come up yet, but I'm willing to pitch in a few bucks for the cause. I have definitely gotten my money's worth and then some over the last few years.

SIGMANUNKI

This site and its current state have been discussed several times. The problem is both with available bandwidth, a bottleneck due to a slow database server and the code not being optimized (but mostly the DB/code from what I've seen).

Haken moved the box to a different physical location just a little while ago, though this certainly hasn't made the bandwidth issue go away. In fact, I think that it may have gotten worse.

The problem is that a lot of the issues can be resolved by re-writing a good chunk of the code (both the asp and sql queries). This is time I don't think that Haken has, as he certainly hasn't gotten around to it. Also, he has denied all offers of help (at least from me, no replies as of yet).

So, just as you are at a loss as what to do, so are we.

YINYANG

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

There've been at least two instances where I would let my computer sit and try to load one page, and it would go one for ten minutes without doing anything. I just kind of give up after that and come back in an hour.

I'm not exactly sure what Sig means entirely, but... Yeah, what he said.

ROXYFREEFALL

Woman, you are completely off your nut.

I'm definitely seeing the site getting worse. I do understand there is really nothing us simple site users can do for now, but I'll definitely pony up some cash if the site needs it. I really love this place. Anything else I can do as well, I'm in. And if there just isn't anything I can do and it's just a matter of waiting an hour or so for things to set right on the site, then I'll do that too.

Not a techie here... so I can only suggest that we click the paypal/amazon button and hope a little extra $$ helps Haken keep FFF flying.

I have a friend who runs a web site for another person/actor all on their own.. it just about kills her between the personal cost (she won't take help) and the sheer time on top of a full time job.. sooo I imagine it is the same or at least similar for Haken.. I couldn't do it but I surely do appreciate that he does. so, click paypal for $5.00 and together we can all help a little bit. Same for Gossi's site. and let's face it... we would all be very lost with out our favorite place to hang out!!

Yeah, I'm in... but I think we need to make a push to have EVERYBODY help. How can we do that?
