If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

*sniff*
Morning, all!
Thank you, Nico, for carrying this on for us today!

Still home sick. Just popping on to say hello to all. I missed quite a bit...if I get back on today, I'll go through them to catch up.

Oh, CMH, thanks for the facial hair pictures. a 16-year old with that thick of a beard...hell, the best I can do is a goatee, and that still takes a week and a half to grow! I chalk it up to the Penobscott and White Tribe blood in my system. Yeah, that's it!

That was the one thing that stuck in my head from the last one. That, an Magda's worry. Thank you, my sweet!

Alright, time for a nice hot shower followed by a nap. See you all soon!

I'd like to refine the pondering to that of competitive parents, who push their kids too hard and get abusive when watching the sporting match from the sidelines.

Y'all are vectors of contagion! Stay away! ( But feel better!)

I'll be off and on today - trying to iron something out with Natuzzi and I don't think they are understanding my problems via IM in my crappy translated Italian.
*That, and it's almost 4:45 PM there - quitting time.

And the pondering? I think it depends on what the competitiveness is about. Men and women are competitive about different things. I wouldn't say I'm too competitive with sports - but at work I would have to say I am.

Mavourneen--I agree. I think men and women are all competitive but in completely different ways. Of course there are going to be some overlaps, but I think men tend to be more physically competitive and women perhaps more towards other, less physical things. I dunno, though. I know some women who play rugby and they're scary competitive, and I also know plenty of men who are becoming stay at home dads and are filling a more traditionally female role. If I think about it more, I think the lines between male and female competitiveness are blurring. *shrugs*I'm confusing myself.

Ack- Sorry for the slow response, and my poor manners. Good to see new faces in the Imponderables thread, and over in the bar!

Ok, and now for an unscheduled, mildly zenophobic rant. I apologize in advance to anyone of Italian Heritage, who is from Italy, or occasionally enjoys a good Italian meal.

FRAKIN ITALIANS! WHAT PART OF 'CANCEL THIS ORDER' DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?
IT'S AN EASY CONCEPT.
*ANNULLI L'ORDINE*

* ahem. Maybe annulli l'ordine actually means I'm asking for a plate of calamari...but I doubt it.

*ooooh that felt good to get off my chest.
Again, I apologize.

*MsG, wait till kids come. The competitive streak comes out strong amongst other women around you with kids. It's kind of weird. All of the sudden, their Johnny is a wunderkind, and yours is a dullard. Then you push back with something else competitive, because of course your child is npo dullard.

Good Moring to all. Glad to see Tristan back. Poor guys still sick but he's tuff. Hola!

So I called he last night after work. Seemed a bit surprised and a little flustered because of work. Anyhoo, we're plannin' on Saturday night shooting at a place with good tables. Gotta call in the morning to confirm (Kid stuff and all).

Still a bit sceptical, but I'm really tryin' to push the walls down. Don't need anything getting in my way. Just picture the Hulk or Juggernaut smashing through a brick wall.

Oh yeah. Thats the stuff.

There's a quote from a movie that goes something like this:

'when guys compete it's cars and fists.' "When girls compete, it's art." (I only know the second part is word for word)

I completely agree with that. Girls aren't as overt about competition. A lot of how we compete, at least in non-sports/games type venues is about the mental aspect. I think men tend to compete more in the physical realm.

I open a response window, type my response, and you all go wild. Eek.

I do have to say that I am more competitive about sports/games then I am anything else. I couldn't care less about competing with some other woman on the basis of who's prettier. The other one's usually going to win, so.... I spent too much of my high school career being the ugly friend to try and compete on looks or for guys. You want him? You can have him.

Sports is a different matter. I HATE losing. A I've gotten older I've learned how to deal with it well, but I still don't like to lose. I always play to win, be it a horse show, volleyball, or trivial pursuit. If I don't think I have a shot at winning, I don't want to compete.

NVG: be careful with that one. Let her chase you. In this case it's not game playing. She's already proven she can't be trusted (and I personally didn't like how you said she answered the phone the day...the "it's your favorite person" thing.) Just be careful.

I do feel that I'm not a competitive person in most things. If it's a sports game, I enjoy the game, and I don't care who wins. I don't feel competitive with other women's physical appearance. Although, get me in a mental game, and I'm ruthless. I am a vicious tigress that must win. I enjoy strategy games and math games. It seems like my masculine side takes over. It helps me empathize with men that go nuts over sporting events.

I made a web site to introduce my friends to the 'Verse.

Three rule to a gunfight as taught by my Uncle:

1. If you know theres gonna be a fight be smart enough to stay the hell out of it.

2. If you need to shoot you opponent in the back it ain't cheating, its survival.

3. Always take a knife to a gunfight. Bullets ain't infinite.

Applying these rules to the situation seems odd, but it works. I'm already in the fight I just need to finish it.

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

Well, from what I can tell from most of the threads I read, Competition is Fierce be it woman or man. Firstiness is the equivalent of King of the Hill around here. And now theres this new twisted twist (apologies, MsG; to quote Kaneman "but it's true") about wench-by-the-shorthairs-dragging competitions, I begin to wonder! We're not even sure she's the enemy yet. And with as many Wiccan's abroad as we have, I'm sure we wouldn't want to rush to judgment without actually holding Fair and Balanced trials, eh? Never forget.

Oh, come on, everybody. Lighten up. I was just kidding. Jeez.

Actually, I wanted to drop in one last ponderable about facial hair. (Shock! You all though it was going to be about underwear again, didn't you? 'Fess up...) When facial hair really is bad...:

Hello, again, fellow ponderer-er-ers...

RiverTwin, glad to see you made it over here!

I'm doing better. All I want to do today is sleep, so in the "in-between naps" stage, I have been trying to get online. I'll be here for a spell, but my bed is calling again.

RugBug, do what they did during the plague...lock youself in your home and put an arrow into anyone that gets too close. Although, I suppose as we now have firearms, a bullet would work just as well.

NVG, I would like to add some wisdom my stepfather taught me in dealing with guns.
1)Do not carry it if you do not know you can use it.
2)Do not draw your weapon unless you mean to shoot someone.
3)Do not shoot someone unless you mean to kill them.

Dragging by alternate hair...oy, that's a scary visual....

MSG, I have not been avoiding y'all...I have the plague and can't keep up with everything! Please forgive me!
