I was advised a while back to start a thread to see if there are any more South Africans lurking around.

It would be nice.

So...

anybody?

not South African I'm afraid, but I visit often - where abouts are you based?

Really this is an excuse to bump the thread...

Well, if I say I'm in Brits, will you know where that is?

Probably not. So I'll say a little town about 50km away from Pretoria.

Northwest Province.

So where do you visit from? And where do you visit?

Platinum territory... believe it or not I have been to Brits... well through it when taking the scenic route over the dam on the way back from the Pilanesberg - that was in April. We didn't stop as it was a holiday weekend and the traffic was terrible.

Most of the time when I'm in your part of the word I'm in the 'Berg/Malotis but when in SA it tends to be Pretoria or 'Maritzburg as that's where my friends are based (one of whom has a copy of the BDM of mine!)

Edit - forgot to say, I'm UK based.

Wow, talking about a small world.

I spent a few years in London, way back when, before I had to be an adult and start earning my keep.

If you have SA friends interested in firefly you should tell them to write to Kalahari.net to try and convince them to start importing and selling it here. I'm starting a movement..
(could you call it a movement if it's only one person doing it?)
Anyway. Kalahari.net is like amazon.com (just very local). They're not familiar with the 'verse and looked at my funny when I asked if they had the dvd's. Ok I didn't actually see the funny looks but I'm sure they were there.

When I first posted, I didn't realise how busy this board is, and before I even blinked, my post disappeared into the mists of the archive. So, if you'll bear with me, I'd like to bump this site for a few days to see if I can find compatriots.

Please bear with me.

Thank you.

Looks like this could use another bump. I'm not SA myself, but I also visit as often as I can. Mostly the Western Cape, where I've been a visiting professor at UCT. I've also travelled in the eastern half. Love the place - SA is a fascinating and very complicated place (as well as being physically beautiful). Oh, I'm a Yank, and live near LA, which has a climate very much like Cape Town.

Not from SA, but I know one! One of the virtual firefly writers is from south africa. He posts on our board (and here, too, I believe) as DCWashington.

Hi Perfessergee, I tend to go to Wits for my work but do occasionally head down to the WC - what subject area are you in?

Thanks, I'll go look for him there, I need help to get more influence on our networks to show Serenity and or firely again. Serenity was not released here......which was a bit upsetting. I really looked forward to seeing that beautiful ship on the big screen.

Don't worry, I'm not gonna bump this thread forever, I though I'd give it a week.

If I can't dig up fellow countrymen by Wednesday, I'll give it a rest.

And it is sorta fun to have a thread all to myself.

A bit lonely, but fun.

And now I'm talking to myself.
And now I'm answering myself.
Out loud.

I wonder how long a thread with only one poster has been kept alive before?
Hmmmmm....
