I'm always looking for ways to bring home a new Browncoat. The other day I helped a total stranger on a forum repair his ailing mp3 player. I did it for fun (not money) and the appreciative individual sent me an email asking that if there was any way he could return the favor...just let him know. Here's my reply:

"Ok....now I got you on the ropes. This is what I want you to do (an unusual request):

I have no idea how much you enjoy TV/Movies, but if you have never seen a show called "Firefly", I highly recommend it. It is a science fiction/western that was on FOX in 2002 for a short time before it was cancelled. Ultimately, it was released on DVD, and due to fan support, was followed up last Fall with a movie made by Universal called "Serenity".

The fans of this series have been trying to keep the interest in this franchise high so that other movies will be made. I've never gotten too fired up over this kind of stuff, but when I see a lot of the garbage on TV...it seems worth it to cheer for a show that had some quality in it.

So...if you are unaware of it, try getting it from your local library or rent it out. If you like it...spread the word.

There you have it....I drive a hard bargain....we're even."

He probably thinks I'm nuts....

What's funny is, that really would be great repayment. Overpayment, actually. What does it say about us that some stranger watching this show means so much?

That was such a great idea. I hope he watches it and writes back to tell you he is now a Browncoat!!

I've been sane a long while now, and change is good...

Too bad he didn't ask openly on the forum rather than in an email. Then you could have made your pitch to a wider audience!

But I salute you for coming up with a novel idea.

Ironically, as payment for a favor, you're having him do somthing that's another favor... how's that work, anyhow?

I'm pointin' right at it!

If he considers it another favor, then I'm glad to be on the giving end.

I've been trying to think of ways to spread the word. After I bought around 8 copies of FF/Serenity for gifts, I figured I had to find better ways to keep things going....before I go broke.
