May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well, Pocket Books bought the rights to at least two novels in the 'verse. Proposals were sent in, but according to the agreements w/ Joss & 'Versal, Joss has to okay the novels before printing. The proposals have been sitting for nigh on a year now with no approval from Joss. To my understanding, Joss has said nothing one way or the other. Problem is without the nod from Joss, Pocket Books is dead in the water.

So, no novels. At least not now. Who knows if we will ever see them. I know that Steve Brust who did one of the proposals actually wrote an entire novel, which he said he will post as fan fic on the net if Pocket Books does not publish it.

Also, Mr. DeCandido who did the novelization has said that the ball is in Joss' court. He also said that the more time passes, the less interested Pocketbooks is likely to be.

I would love some novels also. Joss could always declare them non-canon and do whatever he wants. Looks like there are some more comics coming. All I can say is: let Mal win once in a while.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I nominate E. E. Knight to write a Firefly/Serenity book. For anyone not familiar with him, you need to check out his Vampire Earth series.

I am not familiar w/ Knight or his Vampire Earth series, but I will check him out based on your recommendation.

At this point I just wish Joss would give his nod and let Pocket Books give the go ahead to the two proposals they liked the best. I wouldn't care who wrote them so long as they were good and remained true to the characters personalities and the feel of the 'verse itself.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

What I had heard was that, since the sequel is still sitting around waiting for a green light, Joss hasn't given the go-ahead on any books, in case they contradict what's going to happen. Not sure why there couldn't be some set before the movie or somesuch, but that's Joss's call.
I love books. I would be thrilled to see some books set in the 'verse. However, I think that as long as Joss is reluctant to give the go-ahead, hope is strong for another movie.

Books aren't likely to happen any time soon, thanks to the lack of response to the proposals sent in June of 2005. I haven't heard anything official yet, but the Serenity novels would appear to be dead in the water at this point.

It's Joss's baby, it's Joss's call. Pocket did everything they could to do these novels. *shrug*

Sigh. If it's disappointing for us Flans it must be a real bummer for you.

Thanks, KRAD. :)

(BTW, found your name on my Farscape book and almost fell out of my chair! Yay you! Yay me because I loved it!)

This issue is a bit of a problem for me. Much as I would adore a continuation of the 'verse and all its shinyness in novel form, it kind of gives me heart that Joss isn't looking into producing them in case there's a sequel. Sequel?!? SOOooo...my line of thinking is that if he isn't greenlighting novels then there's still that little devious mind of his still pining for a sequel.

I love how careful he is about his continuity, but in the meantime he keeps his fans in suspense waiting for the next thing. Granted, it keeps us hooked well and good but doesn't help our frustration none.

*thumbs up* Chance for sequel

*thumbs down* No new Firefly/Serenity stuff

*thumbs up* Submissions for novels

*thumbs down* Joss dragging his feet

Someone light a fire under his patootie! Wonder Woman? She's been done already. I want some Big Damn Heroes!

On an alternate but related train of thought, have any of you checked out the new "Out in the Black" cover by 11thHour? My friends and I have been getting our feet wet with the Serenity RPG and I keep pestering my book store to get in the GM screen. (It's more fun to bug them and let them know I WANT it!) We're building a group slowly but surely and really look forward to some regular adventures.
