Holy Mother of Oats! I turn my back for five minutes (that's how long it takes to admire my lovely back) and the interweb goes banoonoos! Isn't there any ACTUAL news to get wrong? Sorry about all this; it might be best if I just stay off the computer for a while. Or just glut the feed with wild conjecture. Hmm, let's see... I'm me, so... let's glut! Here are some ABSOLUTELY TRUE statements of factiness. Gentlemen, start your websites.

1) Wonder Woman has finally been cast. To no one's surprise, we eschewed all those tired movie and TV personalities and cast the interweb star "Lonelygirl", or whatever her actual name is. Congratulations, whomever!

2) I've got a thirteen episode commitment from the CW, so get ready for the long-awaited "Primative and Cheese Man". She's the first Slayer, he's a meaningless hallucination -- can they put aside their differences long enough to fight crime?

3) "CLEM!" Broadway. The number where he eats Rum Tum Tuggle will make you laugh and cry and throw up in your mouth slightly.

4) I will absolutely, posatively never ever do any kind of Serenity sequel or spinoff unless a studio asks me. Politely. Or meanly, that's cool too.

5) Warren Ellis's beard has a foyer. It's quite nice: shaker furniture, and a cute ceramic umbrella stand.

6) Kelly MacDonald and Gong Li have got to stop fighting over me 'cause who are they embarrassing? Themselves, that's all.

7) I'm tired of me.

Right. Cue chaos. And yes, number seven is more or less true. But my little britjaunt is through (Alexis rocked "All My Sons") and I'm grindstone bound, so I won't be feeding any more rumorsites for a while. There's only one way to stop all this insanity, and that's to produce some actual work for people to write about. So I'll do that.

Here's a thing: when "Firefly" was cancelled, my heart got broke. Sounds a bit much, but it changed me. Not even "Serenity" could patch that wound. I'm wearier, warier -- after all those years as a movie writer, you'd think I'd be prepared for another lesson on my unimportance in the scheme of things, but I wasn't. There are two very separate worlds: the marketplace, and the bustling bazaar that is my brain. The brain place is crowded with goods, ideas, sequels, spinoffs, animated versions, miniseries, radio dramas -- this is just the used goods. All the new wares are in there as well and it's deafening. Once I create a verse I never let go of it. And figuring out how much of my energy should be devoted to reawakening the projects you all love with the actors and characters I all love, and how much should be forging ahead and creating entirely new works (which you are contractually obligated to love) is exhausting. More than you know. You know the horse caught bwtween two pools of water? Add seven pools, and make the horse wicked A.D.D. The other world, the marketplace, I don't even begin to understand or predict. All these rumor of projects or the death of projects... When the two worlds align and something actually happens, whatever it is, you guys know I'll be on this site as soon as I'm allowed to be. And I'll be very very clear. There is no news. Not never, just now. I'm off to lunch with Lonelygirl.

Good news, all of it. Our mission has not changed and is still go: hold the line, spread the word, because we will rise again. This story is just too pretty for Joss to let it die.

Aww! I love "hearing" that he still thinks of THE VERSE. Now we just have to convince a studio to ask... hopefully nicely.

The guy is not exactly normal - but creativity is clearly spewing from his brain at all times. "I'm tired of me" -- aren't we all? That's why we want more entertainment!

Anyway, he clearly still has the love for a certain creative project we all hold near and dear to our hearts. That's good. I was worried he might be losing interest in favor of the universe consisting of all the other stuff he hasn't even put on paper yet. I appreciate his dilemma.

We shall see what happens (As The World Turns). What is CLEM?

It's okay to leave them to die.

I looked it up, and found an actor on broadway: http://www.ibdb.com/person.asp?id=64934. Clement Wilenchick. if you scroll down to the first play...

The Ancient Mariner. Albatross, anyone?

So I'm gonna guess that's what he was referring to.

I dunno how Joss deals with fanboys everyday. I mean, like people go crazy thinking there won't be a sequel, people are going crazy because there might be a sequel, things are going bananas all over the net just because somebody with no proof of everything says something that is, on it's surface, just patently unbelievable (Joss Whedon, writer and god, just stops on the street and tells him everything we Brown peons have been waiting for for a little over a year now? Um, pardon my skeptism). Now the JossMaster is saying there's no sequel in the works. Again, not there isn't going to be one, not there is, just that he'd only do it if a studio asked him. Pessimists are grabbing onto it so they can finally give up hope, optimists are saying nothing's definate (I'm getting my production company started), I just say chill out, give it a minute. Calm down. Keep watching Serenity if you get the jonesin' and spread the signal. The rest will take care of itself.

well the problem wasnt the fans...
if you read that post and read at the top of the thread...
it was not fanboys.. but it was some "news" sites that were taking Joss's earlier comment out of context and reporting that he said there would never ever be a sequel... which was flatly taken out of context. B/c of all that news and almost no one bothering to read the context of the comment, Joss felt he had to post again today to assure people that he has not given up. I mean I knew what he meant... but for some random fan who didnt read that earlier posting carefully and taking some news site for granted... welll they may think he doesnt want to do Serenity. That is the problem. That is why he posted again today.

Though I still think the actor doing Tbhe Ancient Mariner is kinda ironic...

A little clarity goes a long way. I feel as though a weight has been lifted and the path made clear ahead.

As has already been said, the mission remains the same - spread the word, keep on loving the 'verse in all its incarnations and hold that goramn line! When Joss hits that big red button, we need not to come running, but to be already standing right next to him.

Joss wouldn't have posted if all the fanboys weren't freaking out on all the message boards. News services were picking it up, but the fact remains that Joss wouldn't have felt the need to post unless people were going crazy about it. Not necessarily a problem but certainly an instance for a chill pill.

Am I the only one who feels totally lost when Mr. Whedon talks about, well, anything? It's like he's got half a million little inside jokes that I'm totally clueless about, or maybe it's just that his intellect is so vastly superior to mine. Or maybe he's totally insane. It's probably a combination of all three...

Good news about FireFly/Serenity and all. I still think that violence is going to be a intregral part of whatever solution is reached on this issue, so we should probably start slaughtering filmakers and F*X executives ASAP.

I'll go get my boomstick.

*gets knocked over with a feather*

See, Browncoats? Joss may not be actively working on his end to get a sequel right now, but that means the ball is on OUR court now. WE need to do the recruitment and the purchases. The huge conglomerate of movie investors are not gonna listen to some weird guy with red hair saying, "Please let me make another movie." They're gonna look at their spreadsheets and sales numbers and say, "Hey! This little movie is making a killing on DVD. Let's make some more money by making a sequel!"

Yay Joss.

Well there we have it boys and girls, and all those in between!

Joss's heart was broken when it all fell apart, and damnation, who could blame him? And it is all about the marketplace, and don't ever forget, it all comes down to how much advertising space can a given network (i am still holding out for the CW) sell for that 60 minute period.

Let's not forget, networks and advertisers are a bunch of whores (sorry Inara). They will pander to anyone or anything that might potentially put a dollar bill in their pockets, so it is up to us all to continue to fight the good fight, get the word out, and keep the people out there spending money on Firefly and the BDM......make the whole affair look profitable, and make the production companies come to Joss, hat-in-hand, and ask him to do it all again!

It is up to us and no one but us, so let's get off our collective asses and make it all happen!

NSS, I don't know how to do the snip thing, so please pardon the taking of your words as guidance for my typing more.

I got tears in my eyes at the last of that post.. it touched me so. I forgot how much he must have loved Firefly and then to have it taken and to fight so hard. I don't think I'm gonna have any trouble holdin' the line from now on... and being patient and working hard is going to be a whole lot easier.

You know the earlier stories about the " death of Serenity's sequel" flashed around the web folks, let's all do our part to gently and kindly remind folks that it wasn't so. If you blog, please blog and include Joss' words and if you have a myspace or a facebook account or a live journal account or a digg account say something about this and spread the word. This was featured on every genre site on the web yesterday.. wouldn't it be shiny if every genre site had to retract it tomorrow?

I'm sending this out tomorrow thru the BSC to get the word out, I'm hoping all other Browncoats will do their part in their own circles to spread it too.

OK, did anyone else read this the way I did? I see people talking about Joss saying here that he won't do anything with Serenity or a spinoff unless he's asked... wasn't every other item on the list absolute nonsense? I don't think that's what he was saying at all.

Joss is perfectly willing to make another sequel and he's not going to sit around and wait for the studios to ask him nicely, or meanly.

Joss Whedon knows what he wants, kinda, and if he gets it in his head that he's ready to make another sequel or something, he's gonna put pressure on the studios until they give in. It's our job to help, by buying up all the DVD's and official stuff we can, and by begging, pleading, and cajoling in any way possible. Sure, there's nothing in the works right now... at the studios. Joss probably has 30 different ideas floating around in his head, including the rest of what he had intended to tell in Season 1 (you've all seen the quote that comes up on this page about suddenly having a story in his head and not getting to tell it). All that remains is for the studios to line up with his wishes, which could take a small miracle. There's definitely hope though, even though it's not in the works yet.

Where the heck did the Clem worship even come from? He just became hero to the fans. I even stumbled accross a website when the show was still airing that had loads of photos of him with the ratpack and other famous persons. I don't think it's there any more, but there's still a message board dedicated to him if I remember correctly.

Incidently, the actor who plays him is pretty good looking under all that latex!

Same place the love for Wedge Antilles (from Star Wars) and Haji (from InuYasha) come from; they're "everyman." Clem's a typical guy (who happens to be a demon): no superpowers, no ambitions to destroy the world, he just wants to go about his life. People identify with that. He's no Hero or Villain, he's just a guy. He's more normal than Xander.

As much as we'd like to meet Spike or Buffy, we'd like to hang out with Clem.

Awwww, that is so sweet!

And good points there, Cybersnark. I have to admit, I went crazy for the whole Clem thing too. I just couldn't understand why I found him so loveable. The guy eats kittens!

Although I've had many posters point out that that was never proven nor shown on TV so therefore isn't true and he was only playing poker for kittens so he could take them home and love them and care for them for the rest of their days.

I agree. Death to fox exects!

Jayne: "Testing, testing. Captain, can you hear me?"
Mal: "I'm standing right here."
Jayne: "You're coming through good and loud."
Mal: " 'Cause I'm standing right here."
