Since we're talking amber coloured drinks, it's time to wheel out a few kegs of real beer (not the foam-topped water you lot get sold as 'beer'). I think we should start with the Coopers' Sparkling Ale, or maybe just their Pale Ale.

If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

* wanders in, his feet kicking several empty cans, bottles, and glasses, sending them rolling across the floor.

Anyone around the bar this morning?

* pours himself an extra spicy bloody mary and begins to clean up the empty alcohol containers.

And for breakfast I've put out rolls & bagels, cereal, and fruit.

That bloody mary looks good,I think I'll have one too.

I'll have you know that not all the beer in the yew-knighted states is sudsy water. We have some very fine beers here. We call them "imports".

Kinda reminds me of the UK opinion of our "tea".

There are hundreds of microbreweries around that do have excellent selections of beer. The problem is in our free market economy you have to pander to the masses. (Whoops! Did I just say that? That's positively antithetic to my blog. (shameless plug)).

Thank you, RMMC for rummaging around and finding the Fire-brewed masterpice on which I was raised. And thank you, Kelkhil for having it hidden just for us...

*sigh* It's only Tuesday and already I wish the week was over. I have to work three double this week, and the only positive thing about it (besides the chance to make some pretty good cash) is that I can now wear a black shirt and black pants instead of the stupid white shirts that no one in the restaurant business needs to wear, especially when we werve a lot of ribs and wings (does that seem right to you?)

There are some good domestic beers, in my opinion, though I have to agree that most come from microbreweries and people are too stupid to want to try anything they haven't seen on TV. I think that all of the Sam Adams beers are good, as well as Killian's, on a national level, and I enjoy several other less known/microbrews: Abita makes good beer, and locally in Atlanta Sweetwater, Red Brick Ale, and Dogwood (before they closed down) made some damn fine stuff.

I make it myself, but I am a bit biased as to the quality of those beers.

As for the UK opinion of our tea, they can keep it. I'll take mine cold, sweet, and with a couple mint leaves over any other type any day of the week.

Ironically, the hops are somewhat related to the cannabis plant (you probably knew that JQ, but for the benefit of others I went ahead and posted it).

* Pours a Bailey's for Magdelena, wishing her a good night and sweet shiny dreams

* Sets Tristan up with an oversized mug of coffee, leaving cream and raw sugar beside it (sorry, don't know your preferences {yet})

* Pours a 32 oz Absolut Mandarin and fresh squeezed orange juice for the Hippie, a smaller glass with Bacardi and Coke with a lime beside it.

* Fills a mug halfway with coffee, pouring the still steaming milk on top for MSG

* Loads a clip into his rifle then begins shooting tranq darts into all the little heathens who are making trouble for MSG.

Maybe I'm just too edgy today. I am disquieted by the hedgehog somehow.

But as a one-time trainer, I can sympathize if not relate, DH. Give the lady some Strawberries for her Vodka & OJ.

And didn't we all decide Mangos instead of limes? I will go out of my way for anything mango and out of my mind if denied.

Also wanted to pick up on a piece of the last thread about blue food/drink. Nature offers us no edible blue food. Flower-eaters keep out. Even blueberries are purple. According to Quest's guide to edible colors, "...with the anomolous exception of Circus Peanuts, the color Orange shall be the best indicator of scrumptiousness." Cheetos, carrots cooked or raw, oranges, peaches, butterscotch if stretched slightly, and of course mangos. "Interestingly, orange is on the exact opposite side of the color wheel. Coincidence?"

Finally,

mornin' drinkers,

Best time of day to start drinking is when you wake up, right ???

* pours some Sailor Jerry spiced rum over crushed ice, squeezing the juice from two mandarin oranges directly into the shaker, then strains and places on the bar, a large chunk of mango adorning the rim for RMMC

* makes one last spicy bloody mary for LittleAlbatross (or the first one for today, whichever you prefer)

* cooks a huge Southern style breakfast for NVGhostRider and MSG and anyone else who wants some (to be eaten this morning, of course) consisting of cheese grits, over-easy eggs, biscuits from scratch, bacon, sausage gravy, wheat toast with fresh raspberry preserves on the side, and fresh squeezed orange and pineapple juice

Grits are a coursely ground cornmeal that are roughly the consistency of porridge/oatmeal when prepared correctly. In the South, we eat them with salt, butter, cheese, and/or some pig derivative. Dumb yankees think they are cream of wheat and put sugar and cream on them.

We used to tell said yankees that they grew on trees and were hand picked one at a time (one grit [if you can call it that] is very tiny and would be very time-consuming to pick them that way, but they believed us, knowing no better)

The reason why they say "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" and then fail to explain fully, is that it can be enjoyed ANYTIME!! (In fact, I'm now imaging rum-drizzled pancakes (hotcakes? What do you call them down-under?) and grits. How shall I explain grits to the uninitiated? Have you Cream of Wheat or Malt-O-Meal? Or Farina? A bit like those yet a bit different. Porridge, oatmeal, mush, gruel...(some terms stolen from wikipedia which has a suprisingly extensive list of related grainy pastes and goos). Flavored to taste (or not at all). Correctly pronounced "gray-its" most notably said by Flo at Mel's Diner on "Alice". Probably not seen in Aussieland.

EDIT: Yes, y'all. I'm outed: Ah'm a Yankee in Reb's clothing. But Ah do mah Grits/Cream of Wheat/Malt-O-Meal using only milk no water, slathered with heaps of butter not margerine (that Oleo to y'all) and heavily salted but NOT like Vegamite. Holy ! is that stuff salty!!!

"Well, here I am."

Cool - thank you both for that description and the pictures make a lot of sense! It sounds yummy actually - and I like porridge with salt too - the way they serve them in Scotland!

We call pancakes, well pancakes... but we don't have Cream of Wheat or Malt-O-Meal Or Farina (as far as I know) but I think you've both described it so well that I will look forward to the day I get to the US and try it for myself!

Oh - and you aren't supposed to use much Vegemite! To really appreciate it I would smother a hot slice of toast in butter then just the tiniest smear of Vegemite - a little goes a long way! My sister (as a kid) used to ask my Mum for "toast with vegemite - not too much in one spot!" That'd be my recommended way of eating it too!

We also call pancakes "flapjacks".

And trust me I only had the tiniest bit o' vegemite. Just to taste it to say I did. I doubt that I'll be doing it again anytime soon.

It's definitely an aquired taste! I grew up hating it - but as an adult I like it a lot! Kids take cheese and vegemite, or just vegemite, sandwiches to school, they have it on toast - but that's about it - although my Mum - who grew up in the lean years post depression/WWII would always 'rinse' the jar into casseroles to add to the flavour - you never needed to salt the casserole that had that in it!

Ah - I'm thinking of ordering my usual night cap - A Baileys please... It's past my bedtime and I am getting a mite sleepy!

*sigh*

Edit: just got a wave from Kelkhil - he's just a little busy in TRW... but fine - so nothing to worry ourselves about - the bar bot seems to be behaving for the time being... *eyes Bar Bot suspiciously* and all is well with the world...

Thank you Bar Bot *accepts the proffered Bailey's and waves to those lurking in the dark corners of the pub* Good night! *pop*
