Hello everyone. I am sort of new here. I wanted to share my story...I could not find any other thread that already had the topic...(pardon my ignorance if there is one)

Anyway, a while back, my husband bought Serenity. I put it at the bottom of the movie pile and ignored it. We went on vacation and when we came back I was reluctant... but watch it with him...I liked it.

Then he went to get me Season 3 of the X-files and bought also Firefly the series...I was a little because I figured why get into something that does not have an ending? (Please do not kill me...let me finish my story )

I saw one episode and I was so hooked that all I did was talk about it and hate the network and the non-intelligent people that made the decision to cancel such a wonderful show. I ended the series and watch the movie again... Now, I am able to understand everything and I am ready to say that I am a true Browncoat or whatever is that that describes a true fan. Count me in to collect members and money!

What is your story?

Welcome, Maximus!

We love the Newly Converted, so shiny all over!

Welcome to the Ranks of the Browncoats, Strawberries & Mudder's Milk are on the buffet right over there --------->

You'll find folks on this board who watched the show first run on Fox, or F*x as some call it, folks who saw the movie first then delved into the series like yourself, and everyone in between.
Use your newfound enthusiasm to show others the Browncoat Way. Check out the guerilla marketing threads mid board, there are some great ways to channel your shinyness.

EDIT: You live in NOVA? Whoohoo, there are only 3 active posters that I know of in the Metro area, Me, PaganPaul, and Ryce. Now we are 4!Maybe someday I will be able to get a Tall Card Charity Tournament up and running after all!

Please let me offer you a glass of Irish whiskey to sip.

I'm one of those who suffered through F*X's treatment of our BDS (big d@mn series) but didn't find my way here until about a year ago.

And no worries about finding the 'proper' thread. You did just fine.

Thank you, Thank you and more thank you's...

I am so glad I found this place. It is great here. I have been reading some other threads and I am hoping to cathc up with all of them pretty soon here. There is so much to discuss about this incredible show...

What I can not understand for the love of G is why did they cancel it when we see so many just plain, trashy shows that do not even amount to 1% of Firefly, yet there are still on TV, kicking and bringing in the big $$$$...I guess that accounts for some taste...

But not as much fun. Besides, you spelled everything right (or enough to make it seem that way); and, it's the thought that counts.

ChapoliniusMaximus, welcome to our shiny home!

We're glad you're here!

You came at a very good time. We are celebrating the 1st anniversary ( the 'Versary) of the release of the movie in theaters on the 30th of September. We're writing letters to Universal to say thanks, and we're having viewing parties and shindigs to have fun and share the Firefly/Serenity love! I hope we have lots of folks get introduced to the 'Verse.

There's a site where you can upload a picture of yourself, or one you made saying thanks to Universal too. Here's where you go to see it.
www.bigdamnthankyou.com. It's fun! Got great pictures already up there.

I'm sort of the unofficial greeter around here.. and I give new folks their browncoat. It's a tradition here for new recruits to get their very own browncoat like Mal's.... well almost like Mal's... it's sort of virtual.. but you know.. still lookin' really good.

*hands ChapoliniusMaximus a browncoat that fits just right*

Please talk often, share with us and enjoy your your new home.

I for one am very glad you spoke up.

I don't think anyone has presented you with a browncoat either, and if I have, please hand it to the next new folk you see, ok?

There you go, you have your gear. Please don't just lurk.. we love hearing from folks and having them join us in our conversations.

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

Hi there Maximus... Your story is so much like mine! I was house-sitting for a friend who had often asked me to watch this SciFi series by Joss Whedon - she knew I'd like it coz I love Buffy & Angel and she thought this was better...

I thought... So, why was it cancelled...? Why would I want to get into a series that I would never get to see the end of...? Why hadn't I really heard of any of the actors she mentioned...?

Then one evening I succumbed - just so I could tell her I'd watched it and be politely grateful for recommending it!!!

I had watched 4 episodes back to back (pilot/Serenity - Shindig) & it was 1.30am and I thought - I have to do something about this!!!! It cannot be all over... I found myself here and have never left!

You are so welcome and thank you for posting! You are home now and among family!! We love you because you love the 'verse! Enjoy!...

Love, Magdalena x x x

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site and the ranks of the browncoats Maximus! Glad to have you with us.

Thanks for sharing your story. We love to read how new 'coats found the 'verse and fell in love. It is great to welcome new fans brimming over with enthusiasm. That is what we need; new blood and enthusiasm.

Since you are a browncoat you are charged with the same mission we all are; to spread the word. You have to share the series and the movie with everyone you know. We need new fans and we need to push the Serenity dvd. The more dvds that sell, the higher the profits for Universal, the better our odds of the story continuing in some form.

Welcome home Maximus. Take care & keep flyin'!

Thank you all for the responses!

As to my name they are both me...I tried to sign but it did not let me. (I had some severe mental hemmoroid...I may add) Couldn't come in for several hours so I figured to sign in again with both my names but in different order...same email etc. so that people still recognize me. I apologize for the confusion. (not a troll, I promise...)

My hubby can not wait to sign in as well. He has been in a case for several weeks now and coming home super late...can't tell you how many times I have watched the same eppi of Firefly before he falls asleep...I know them by memory by now. He has been trying to catch up and watch them again.

In order to belong to BUFF all you have to do is want is to be part of it. (It's for fun and stuff)Post it on your signature and that is it.

Thank you all, I already feel at home. I will definately go into that website and check it out as well.

BTW. I will continue with the name user MaximusChapolinius going forward.

SIRFRANCIS

I have been into firefly for about a year to a year and a half. first cought it on SciFi. I was hooked from the first 5 minutes. I got my wife, son and daughter hooked on it also. I saw the series before the movie. It is to the point at our hose now, that if there is nothing a tv, it is a Firefly night. I don't know how many times we have watched the dvd's.

This weekend, at a cast party for a show I am in, it turned into a firefly party. Complete with firefly sing alongs. Turns out that out of the 30 people at the party, only 7 had never seen the show, and the rest were all big fans. (Sort of a spontaneous shindig).

I am glad I found this place in the 'Verse. I look forward to meeting you all.

Aha, Max, I am relieved. When I first read down the thread, I thought I'd suffered a short-term memory blowout. Then went back to discover that yes, there *were* two different names, but had to question if perhaps you (Max and Chap) were a couple.

And now, as we sail rapidly toward 23,000 members, I see SirFrancis coming up the ramp. That'll take care of the second dish of strawberries. :-)

Max and SirF, y'all come on up to the galley and question the buffet. Lots of crew up there discussing things and chowing down. Plates are at the forward end of the table, shimmerwine fountain at the after end. Ice-planets in the cooler, bottom shelf. We've been re-supplied with six flavors, so rummage around until you find what you like.

Please try not to step on ShipsCat, or into her dish.

Welcome to all ye Newbies! And thanks to the Welcome Mule for all the greetin's and hot totties. Were we a true cult, I'll believe ChapMax, er, MaxChap just got "love bombed". The difference here is that once yer rank & file, you still get love bombs. Finding this thread tonight was like that.

'Course like anywhere else in the 'Verse there's places you'd best steer clear of if you're faint of heart. But the good news flip side of that is there ain't nuthin'--NUTHIN' I say--as a good old bar fight. Just don't have it at the Forsaken Pub. They're just honest folk, that venture to their favorite virtual watering hole to have a good time. If fisticuffs are your purticular wont, there's some dandy places to go. Sadly, not all fights be according to Hoyle, but you can always just leave the ring. [Jayne pockets the ring. No, you dolt. Not that kind of ring! Puts ring back on table.]

There are even groups within groups and groups of groups and ungroups and anti-groups. It's like a Firefly Mall. Go out and explore. Seek out new life and new civili...oops. Sorry. You get the drift.

Fingers and toes crossed here for ya, too.

Buff as in Buffy? Help me out here...

Sexy Kirk...You didn't by chance see the God-awful Shatner roast on ComedyCentral, did you? (yes, it had it's moments, but Schat-illogical "humor" can you cram, er, put in a two hour show? Well, when you have Andy Dick and George Takei sitting on the same dias, apparently quite a lot. Bill for his part sat with this really weird, frozen expression of "yes, I'm smiling but not sure why" that only broke once toward the end when he actually was amused (sadly I don't remember the bit).

Sexy Spock made an appearance at the very beginning in a badly scripted, badly acted (Leonard! we expect more, gorrammit!) pre-recorded phone skit.

The whole thing made me feel unwashed and unwashable.

If you did see it, sorry for the needless recap. If you saw it and enjoyed it, I'm afraid we're going to have to put you in the airlock.

IMHO it seems that more and more people just "go to the THE JOB" ... in other words, just show up, if so..., and then don't even try to do the job...going the extra mile is rapidly dissapearing and what is even worse is that we put up with the bad customer service beacuse if not, we are viewed as complainers or as bia...tches. (forgive me please if I broke any rules) Now that I am almost done with my complaints...I feel like taking it up with the alliance and do this...

Let's move on to another topic:

Leonard Nimoy's Pictures...Very well done. He said it was his second passion...not sure as to what was the first one...

About William Shatner: I agree with you...my MIL (mother in law) also thinks the exact same way than you about William Shatner...the current W.S. ... but I am totally talking about The W.S. on the original series... ah!!!! Capt. Kirk...breaking hearts all throughtout the galaxy...where no man has gone before, seeking new lives...new...ah...even the aliens went crazy for him...

Now that I have had my fun...I am ready to go to work.

It has been a real pleasure exchanging info and websites with you! Hope to be able to post a picture of my doggies here soon! Ciao

Today I came across something very touching...is called:

A Lesson in Humanity

Years AGO, a 10-YEAR-OLD BOY APPROACHED the counter of a soda and climbed on to a stoll. "What does an ice cream sundae cost?" he asked the waitress.

"Fifty cents" she answered.

The youngster reached deep in his pockets and pull out an assortment of change, counting it carefully as the waitress grew impatient. She had "bigger" customers to wait on.

"Well, how much would just plain ice cream be? the boy asked.

The waitress responded with noticeable irritation in her voice, "Thirty-five cents."

Again, the boy slowly counted his money. "May I have some plain ice cream in a dish then, please? He gave the waitress the correct amount and she brought him the ice cream.

Later, the waitress returned to clear the boy's dish and when she picked it up, she felt a lump in her throat. There on the counter the boy had left two nickels and five pennies. She realized that he had enough money for the sundae, but sacrificed it so that he could leave her a tip.

The moral: Before passing judgement, first treat others with courtesy, dignity, and respect.

Adapted from a Lifetime of Success Pat Williams Fleming H Revell

Do you have a story like this one?

GICHIN

Boy my wife has been happy to find this board.

Only thing making her happier is me talking her out of tossing Firefly into a return pile. We are not really TV folks, but I do not know how I missed this train until so much later.

Thanks for making my sweetie so welcome here!

DONCOAT

Welcome, Gichin! Grab a strawberry and a mug of Mudder's Milk!

You're eligible for a browncoat yourself, naturally. If FollowMal doesn't find you soon, come by the storeroom where I do my repair and recycling on previously loved outerwear. I think there's a used 'coat that'll fit you, more or less.

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

As in "Funakoshi"? (if it is, don't get too excited; I Googled it 'fore answerin'.)

Finally, we meet the man behind the curtain. Welcome to the ranks. You'll find Kelkhil's Pub serves the best fare in the 'Verse. Especially if that Mudder's Milk swill's not to your liking. I understand they have the best of that, too, but fermented swill is swill none-the-less. The company there can't be beat.

Don't know if it ever got back to you or not, but in the midst of either my drunken debacle at Kelkhil's or my apologies for it the next day, but I mentioned your Maybe-Baby to MSG who is in the same state. Everyone's keepin' their fingers crossed all across the 'Verse that all goes well fer each fambly. But youse two might wanna share yer common experiences. Or not. I only offer possibilities.

Also, we're offerin' welcomes to yer husband Gichin. COOL! He's here at last.

Uh-oh... that's a tall order. Literally.

I do have some extra leather around from some 'coats that couldn't be salvaged. Maybe I could tack some extra length on the sleeves and bottom. Think that would work?

I think it would, DonCoat, except I got a shipment of extra long 'coats in. You see, RadarRese, who minds the storeroom is always thinkin' about what needs done next and she's been gaugin' some of the taller long legged folk who have joined our ranks lately and decided we needed to lay in some stores of longer 'coats.

So for today.. I got this covered.

I have sure been remiss in my duties as the dispenser of new 'Coats coats.

First of all MaximusChapolinius, you need your browncoat since you signed up first.
But you don't need an extra long one, looks as if a regulation size will do.

*hands MaximusChapolinius a browncoat of her own*

There you are.

I sure hope you continue to enjoy your time here on our friendly boat. I love it here, it's been my home for almost a year now and this is the shiniest place in the 'Verse.
