this is similar to the forsaken except for a few minor differences

difference 1: no pyre (to hot)

difference 2: no blood casting

difference 3: no deliberately doing anything that ppl might find offensive in the slightest.

let the games begin!

End of line.

the "offensive" I am referring to in the forsaken threads are the phrases "*Throws a few more bibles on the pyre*" and "bible-roasted goodness"

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Someone comes into our perfectly forsaken claimed thread saying it should be called the bible belt (jokingly) and 'be saved!' (also, I think, jokingly) and I say (jokingly) that I shall use those (joking) bibles as fuel for our Forsaken pyre of damnation and Forsaken-ness.
Yeah, haha it was all in fun. We're Forsaken. We're already in (virtual pretend) hell. And we've been burning bibles in our Bonfire almost since we began. Don't take us so seriously.
If we're going to try not to offend anyone, we can't say anything.
By the way, I find quite a few things in the bible offensive.

You want me to quote everything from that book that ever disgusted me we're gonna be here all night. We can start with its opinion of women, shall we? How about that we were made from a rib (at least in one version of the story)? How about being there just to serve man and bear children? How about it being perfectly ok to sell your daughters into prostitution? Oh, how about the fact that we have free will, but some being living in the crust of the earth is responsible for everything we do wrong? Or a merciful god that will rain fire and send plagues? OH and I have another one! That whole not suffering a witch to live thing! Never mind that they'll 'know truths and secrets' and can heal the sick and are devoted to being as wonderful and helpful as possible. They're threatening. Kill them.
I'm not in the mood to have you argue the point, however. I've had enough people up in my face about enough things this week. We'll just have to agree to disagree. And hopefully you will agree to not be so easily offended by something I do in the Forsaken threads. We do, after all, aim to burn.

Y'know, just for contrast's sake, I'm a very devout Christian and I have absolutely no problem with people talking about burning bibles and stuff. I could read a thread about this stuff all day and not voice any opposition to it. But when I say something YOU disagree with, then I'm a troll, and deserve to be banned?

Sorry to the guy who made this thread, I know that I'm hitting "respond" to your message, but none of this is directly aimed at you. It just seems like we've got quite a few hypocrites around here.

Well, for the sake of not being snooty about it, let me phrase it as a neutral question:

Why is it ok for any of you to disrespect my faith, but not ok for me to disrespect some of your beleifs?

I'm not sure why I'm responding, since I've never been able to get through to you before. But I don't have much else to do here at work, sadly, so I might as well give it another shot.
The difference between me and you is that most of the time I am teasing or playing around, or I'm serious and respectful. I get my back up when someone is being aggressive. Yeah big deal so do most people.
You, CMH, are never courteous, repectful, or as far as I can tell speaking in jest. You come in with your back up and your fangs bared. You're deliberately abrasive and consistantly unapologetic, which is what gets you the negative attention you bemoan at such great length. You can't understand that, then you have a very poor grasp of human nature.
I have had serious and respectful discussions about religion on this very forum. I have no problem being rational or analytical or hearing different viewpoints if they are presented in a calm and respectful manner. Please note that I didn't go rampaging through any of the threads that were started for the Christian Browncoats. Please note I do not attack anyone just because they hold a certain view. However, if someone is going to be snarky, I'm happy to be snarky right back. I'd prefer it if there just weren't snarkiness. This is why I tried to explain that it was in FUN for the FORSAKEN to be burning bibles. It's slightly snarky to start an entire anti-forsaken thread. And I was asked flat-out what problems I have with that particular book, so I stated them. Some of them. I'm not saying it's totally without value, but much of it is offensive and outdated for our modern world, and some of it is hateful enough to be unbelievable. I've not seen another religious text that talks so much about killing and revenge and hatred. That these things would be right along-side the actually quite wonderful message that Jesus was trying to get across is appalling.

Really? You're just joking? So that entire thread about having me banned is just a joke? Or what I remember to be the first interaction where you blasted me for the sentiments you THOUGHT were behind me words? Hilarious.

Ok, enough with the sarcasm. For the record I think I've been very respectful, even in response to people who eren't being very respectful to me. But, I also wont deny having acted immature, or that I've lashed out and strait up insulted people, or that I have a poor grasp of human nature for that matter. ALL of my negative behavior has been in response to people acting rudely towards me first. If you're dead set in beleiving that I'm "never courteous, repectful, or as far as I can tell speaking in jest.", then what am I being right now? I frequently conceed ponts people make against me, even when they are being rude, as long as they're true. If I'm unapologetic, it's because I don't beleive I need to apologize for what I've said, not ignorant stuborness.

And please, don't defend why you said what you said about the Bible. You don't need to explain yourself to me, or to anyone else for that matter, and honestly I don't really care. That's your opinion.

Well this isn't exactly anti-Forsaken, just the same except... less the Anti-Forsaken more a trademark skirting copy .

Seriously though, this is a fairly inflammatory thread, bordering on open Trolling (and to prove my point here's Kaneman). I could post a thread that was titled the Anti-Christianity thread, just like Christianity except blah blah blah, I like your Christ I do not like your Christians, so unlike your Christ (rock on Ghandi you nappy wearing hippy).

But I don't because such a thing would be a blatent attempt to get a flame war. Maybe that's not why you did it guy, but you do have a tendency to invite Flame wars and then say "why are people shouting at me?"

Now starting a thread with a joking rivalry to the forsaken instead of the open hostillity, that would be funny, you could call it the Saken .

I came here out of curiousity as I love the Forseken threads (I feel such a sense of community there) but have occassionally thought that, as welcoming as the people there are, since we've got to know each other so well it can be a little intimidating for other people to join. I therefore thought it was a great idea for people to start a new thread, after all the more 'communities' that people can feel a part of the better. It may be because religion doesn't play a big part in my life but it never occured to me that people may have been upset over our joking around. Still, it does seem kind of obvious in retrospect that some people who take their faith very seriously wouldn't feel comfortable with our larks. I don't think anyone set out to be offensive since no-one spoke up saying that they didn't like what was being said. Naturally, if people didn't like what was said they went elsewhere. That's why an alternative thread for people to exchange their Christian views on life is a good idea, but it doesn't have to be a competition! There is certainly room for different viewpoints without having to go head to head.

Sadly I think all of this is moot since this thread has been taken over by unpleasant elements it will probably die away.

By the way, PR, I admire you more for your good taste in enemies! If Chrismoorehead or Kaneman had actually said nice things about you my faith in my judgement of human nature would have been shaken!

"And please, don't defend why you said what you said about the Bible. You don't need to explain yourself to me, or to anyone else for that matter, and honestly I don't really care. That's your opinion."

I thought this was pretty nice of me. Also on that note, why is she not saying nice things about me? Isn't that door supposed to swing both ways?

Here, let me "blow your mind": Phoenix Rose seems to be a genuinely good person with the best intentions for all of her close friends. She's well read and intelligent.

Did I mean it? Yes. She's sill acting like a bitch to me, though, so forgive me if I don't sing her praises like everyone else. I had no clue what these "forsaken" or "anti-forsaken" threads were about when I posted last night. I just thought it was laughable that someone could talk so harshly about the Bible then turn around an accuse ME of being offensive. But appearently it's ok as long as you're joking.

Me? I don't think you should have to be joking. This is America, damnit, and you've got the right to say any dumbass thing you want. But as with the "saying nice things" point, that door swings both ways as well. PR still hasn't responded to my last post, and I'm sure she'll claim it's because she "didn't want to waste time" on me or some crap, even though the entire thing was me and about me being polite. No, instead she chose to respond to the person AFTER me who called her an "asswipe". So from my perspective, it doesn't look PR's making any sort of effort to resolve anything, just to perpetuate aggression with whoever's giving her the most ammunition.

What gets me is that people place so much stock in a novel. Surely christianity is about faith and humanity?

Oversensitivity is a dangerous thing, just open a newspaper for the reasons why.
Just repeat the words 'each unto their own' and start your own clique on the board. Theres plenty of room.

Boring and ineffectual lecture over.

Oversensitivity? She started a "ban CMH" thread just because she doesn't like his opinion in "her" thread. Well, too bad. I don't want to make a big thing of this, i just don't see why you can't just leave it lie.

So she thinks its 'her'or 'their' thread, so what? They post on it regularly, they've got to know each other, it may be cliquy, but did you march up to a bunch of kid in high school who regularly hung around together and demand that they include you and actually change what the did to suit your tastes? No (not unless you were a really troubled kid) so the same thing applies somewhat here - the only difference is you can hear what the other kids are saying. But if you don't like what they are talking about, you always have the option of not listening.

Oh and by the way, this is an open letter to all - really not interested in going back and reading who started it.

You also have the option of starting up your own group of friends, with your own things to talk about, or even, heaven forbid, playing nicely and making frieds with other groups.

So start whatever you want, i'm sure from now on PR will keep out of your way if you keep out of hers, and just live and let fucking live.

An i'm so sorry to be constantly wading in where i've no real authority, but i'm so tired of the constant bickering 'oh, she started it! no he started it! well you called me names! no i didn't! yes you did! did not! did too! well you're a poo head! waaaah! mummy they called me a poo head!

For frigs sakes grow up.

If I'm remembering correctly the "ban" thread was started in response to something mostly offensive that Chris said regarding women who dress provocatively getting raped and how dressing provocatively was part of the reason.

When actually it's not. That's not opinion, it's fact in 90%+ of cases. And even if it is, the male species should learn some f***ing control.

No. Not all men are rapists. I realize this.

What I'm attempting to not-so-coherently say is that assuming the only reason women get raped is because they wear provocative clothing, then men (and women) should control themselves and not give in to every urge.

However, the above scenario is absolutely not correct and rape in 90% of cases is more about the domination/control/some other exterior force that actually has nothing to do with what the victim is wearing.

Is that more coherent? I'm not sure. I just spent way too long trying to type this out.

Hello, all.
Just want to tack on something to Seryn's argument if I may...
What got us all here in the first place? I mean, why are each one of us posting on this board? Firefly, right? So, that means we are all fans of the show...we are all Browncoats. We all came to this board because of our love for a TV show and a movie...and an entire philosophy of life that we have embraced. And guess what? This community is one big, happy, disfunctional family...much like our BDH's. We are all here because we want to be here. We are also like most like-minded groups of humans...we will fight amongst ourselves if we do not have an outside threat. We will find anything to keep us occupied until the next threat materializes. You know, if we focused this energy elsewhere, there's no telling what we could accomplish.
Thanks for being Browncoats. Every one of you.

For the record, I do agree that men should control themselves. I also agree that there should be no war, or famine, or any number of other things. But this is the type of thing that gets me about idealists, about war-protesters and the like. These are realities of life. Always have existed, always will. By concienciously objecting, you're not accomplishing anything. At some point, for you to survive, something will have to die. An animal. A plant. A human. A germ. Even if you're not the one to kill it, someone will have to kill it for you if you are to continue living.

There will never be peace, because conflict is part of life, and life could not exist without it.

And so it is with rape. It's not right that women or anyone should have to worry about it. But it exists, and as long as it exists, you will have to weigh the chance of it happening against what you're willing to do to defend yourself. Like with every chance in life, you could sit around at home with a helmet on instead of even venturing outdoors. I'm certainly not advocating that. But when you go outside into the uncertain world, there are things you can choose to do or not in preparation.

Me? I drive around with a gas mask and three filter changes in a rucksack in the back of my car. I carry a .22 with me most of the time, and always have a leathman multi-tool, a muslin bandage, 25 feet of 550 parachute cord, a lighter and a flashlite with me. It all fits on a nifty tactical vest that I always wear. This, by the way, is not an exhaustive list.

Paranoid? You could call me that. But the difference between being paranoid and prepared is as simple as something happening or not happening. Nations fall, violence happens, people get hurt.

It is my opinion, no matter what you call it, that revealing clothing factors in to a rapist's decision when choosing a target. Honestly, I've never seen so many people disagree with me. Almost everyone I talk to, male and female alike, think the same thing. Maybe it's just the area I live in. Maybe we're all backwards and simple minded country folk. But I really don't see why it ever had to turn into what it did on this message board.

And honestly, I just don't like seeing so much skin around me.

I know this is a bit off topic with how the threads been derailed and all, but hopefully i can ask this without causing any hurt feelings or arguments.

How does one become forsaken? I've been wondering for a while cuz it looks like fun.

Stay shiny all,

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

Blood sacrifice on the pyre, dancing nekkid around the pyre... etc. Not terribly difficult, in my opinion.

ok, so admittedly i didn't read through the whole thread, but i think i certainly got the gist of it. i don't feel particularly compelled to let my self be drawn in, and i'm going to try to be careful not to say anything that could be taken as siding up (i surely could, but frankly these sorts of little chats never go anywhere, and just raise the blood presure of all concerned)
what i would like to say, is this quote from the 10-yr-old-who-lives-next-door-and-is-wiser-then-i:

can't we all just get along???

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

Well, it's nice to see such a well-represented thread. Almost a who's who of FFF.net. Sure there's a few absences, but maybe they just haven't chimed in yet. To be perfectly honest, the only reason I even chiming--more likely clanging--at all is that I've been out of touch with you all for a couple of weeks now and not for any particular reason. Shoot, I still mulling over the Star Trek Fascistas. I aim to misinterpret over there one of these days. (The thread that wouldn't die...)

My input is short and sweet, quite unusual for me. But it's late and I'm tired.

Troll. Bitch. Victim. Offender. Peacemaker (attempted). Voice of Reason. USW. Lookie here, troops. It's really simple. Sure we could all get along, but if all of us agreed we each other, and upping the stakes, if all of us liked each other and never, ever tried to take a bite out of each other now and again and enjoy the chew, if that is all of what we are, I pity us.

We are here to exchange ideas with one another. Good God (sorry, to the atheists I may have just offended), I DON'T WANT TO AGREE WITH ALL OF YOU ALL THE TIME! Enlighten me when I'm pig-headed. Chide me when I hurt your feelings. But if we only have one mind between us, what is the point of posting at all? If I can't be enriched by your point of view which is so radically different from mine, I'm a sorry fer sher. Beat me into submission with your part of the dialog. I'll think about your alien stupidity and hone my own. PR you NEED Kaneman. Dissenters keeps us true. We dostn't need Yes-Men. Gorrammit! That was sexist. GRRR. ARRGH. ChrisMoorehead needs to have someone step on him. But Stepper, whoe'er you may be, remember, You yourself, REGARDLESS OF WHO IN' STARTED IT (you kids don't make me stop this car and come back there), ya ain't purfekt yerself and ought to EXPECT a step-on all your own.

The only thing I got left is, what's daft about a Tribble with Groucho Glasses? Kinda channels an Ewok in my mind. But don't get me started on an SW rant........

Whaddaya mean by having someone step on me? People've done a lot worse to me, and I'm still alive.

Also, might I point out that this altercation between myself an PR has been quelled for about four days now, if you count the last time I actually said something to her without her responding to me. You think you might be kicking a dead horse?

And this ain't just to JonnyQuest, either. PR might be legitimately interested in avoiding confrontations, but I ain't afraid to call BS, and all I see is a bunch of people who think that theirs will be the voice of reason, but are actually just perpetuating a situation that was dead a while ago.

Am I doing the same thing by responding to said do-gooders? Hell yes, but at least I don't hide behind false or, at best, ignorant intentions.

I don't mean to start or keep these arguements going, but I don't mind it, either, certainly not as much as the rest of you. So, we can keep this up until I get bored (which will happen, eventually, but I have a pretty long attention span) or you can just walk away from it right now.

Ball's in your court.

well, little vibrating ball of fun fur wearing comedy glasses with a big nose and mustache attatched, when i doesn't have any eyes is pretty damn daft in my opinion. Its from a magazine called SFX - Jayne Nelsons column.

And i apologise for dragging this back up to the top again. Please don't call me a peacemaker. Or reasonable.
