Hey I was just wondering who would be up for a New England Shindig? Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions please post. I noticed that we have some New England/Canada Brothers and Sisters and what better way to celebrate the new DVD release than in Browncoat crowd?

PS. By celebrate the new release I mean WATCHING THE DVD (just incase you didn't catch my drift) which means no earlier than dec.11-13 unless UPS owes someone a HUGE favor)

That would be cool. I would need a definitive when and where to be able to say if I could do it. And how would it be done? A 13 episode Firefly Marathon?!

first I would need to know how many people would be intrested in going to make sure it is worthwhile. Also, where in NE would it be held? and what did everyone have in mind as a place? Conference room? Hotel room? Someone's house? (I'm in favor of a conference room with a projector and comfy(sp?) chairs)

Well, we can start with expressing interest (already done) and location. As a follow-up to my last post, I'm in Arlington (Boston area).

Party on, John. I envy y'all getting together (and hey, are you coming to the AC shindig next month?) and having DVD release fun.

Just a bit of unsolicited advice: the marathon can be fun, but is exhausting. I went to Atlanta for one and we were in a cool bar with a huge screen and hundreds of beers on tap. Still, by the time we got to OiS, I was near operatic with fatigue. Comfy chairs, per Tragic, might help.

Still, nothing like singing "Hero of Canton" with 20 other Browncoats.

I think anywhere would be ok. I would suggest, though, that it be held away from Boston. I'm sure you would like people to actually show up at the Shindig--and not to drive up Storrow Drive and down Memorial Drive cursing Boston and everything in it. Maybe once you've found out where everyone is from, you could pick a focal point? By the way, I'm in the metrowest/Framingham area.

Maybe we could do something like this for the North Texas area?

Bump (but with a real idea) How would you guys/gals feel about holding it at Old Sturbridge Village? They have a conference room, (multiple ones) a hotel (in case the 15 hours and or multiple beers wear you out)and the whole frontier bit to it.

The olny problem is that this will cost some $$, since I doubt a conference room there will come cheap. Hotel rooms are ~ $85-100.

Also please add your own ideas on where you would like this to be held.

Old sturbridge website is http://www.osv.org

That sounds cool. You might want to see who else is interested to see how the bill splits. Also, OSV might be a little pricey, I don't know. But I would be willing to sacrifice ambience for economy, if there was a cheaper place. Also, I'll be starting my part time job soon. Hence, I think 2-3 weeks notice would be appreciated by all, once you get a time/place/price hammered down. Keep us "posted."

While I'd love to attend (I grew up in Weston, MA), I don't think I can. I'll either be at college in Pittsburgh, PA or home on vacation in Vermont when I watch the DVDs.

Old Sturbridge Village would be cool, though possibly distracting. It depends on whether people want to go out and look at OSV or spend their time in the meeting room discussing Firefly. If what people want is a room to spend the day discussing Firefly then I'd say get someone's house or a regular hotel conference room or something; OSV would be a waste in that case.

Not as a substitute for the DVD release shindig, as it would be a bit early, but I've volunteered to run a panel on Firefly at United Fan Con in Springfield, MA November 7, 8, and 9, 2003.

http://www.unitedfancon.com/

My plan is to bring word of the latest developments in the DVD and movie plans and whatever else is going on at that point to those who *don't* hang out on these boards.

UFC is a nice, low-key con. Enough people to be fun, not so many that it's unbearably packed. So far the guests are all Dr. Who actors and the human cop from Alien Nation, but they're working on getting additional guests.

Gary Graham. Evidently he's also been in some "Enterprise" episodes.

I would expect United Fan Con to pick up at least one more guest likely to be a bigger audience draw. Last year there were three "Farscape" actors. In the past they've had Trek and B5 people.

And indeed they have announced more guests: Mercedes McNab (Harmony) and Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1). I hope my panel doesn't end up being scheduled opposite their presentations!
