Ok, as sad as it may seem to you die-hards I have'nt seen the Serenity movie or any Firefly episodes as yet.
I do however want to enjoy the complete experience so my question is, In what order do I watch everything? The movie first then the series or visa-versa.
Also, I believe the episodes on the DVD are out of order so can someone clear this up for me as well please.
Thanks in advance.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

The FOX network aired the episodes out of order, which more than a little likely contributed to the death of the show, so watch them in the DVD order. And the series comes first. So watch the show, in the order it is on the DVD because that's what Joss wanted, then read the graphic novel "Serenity Those Left Behind" then watch the movie. And there's the R. Tam sessions. There used to be a thread called "The Order of things". I'll see if I can dig that up for you.
*edit* Got it, bumped it for ya.

Welcome to the Browncoat 'verse! ... Well, almost. I know you'll enjoy the series, and the movie.

Since the others have already ansswered your question, I shall simply say this: Enjoy Firefly and Serenity, and don't be afraid to help spread the signal.

You'll also want to read the "Dead or Alive" script (between the series and the comics --sorry "graphic novels" ). It's an unfilmed episode. Should be around here somewhere.

Previous posts I've seen have led me to this... If someone from this site could paste this somewhere as a link for new fans that would be super-duper....Ok....here we go again. Someone should sticky a link for the order and location of things.

1) Watch the series IN ORDER as they are formated in the DVD box set.

2) Watch ALL the Bonus material on DVD box set

3) Repeat step 1 but this time with all the commentary tracks ON.

4) Get Extended Gag reel from Firefly on a site that downloads video... I like Limewire. Or go here...

5) Read "DEAD OR ALIVE" unfilmed script... Link is here... http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45

6) Watch the River Tam sessions... In Order... Link Is here... http://www.session416.com/mirrors

7) Read All 3 Dark Horse comics, entitled Serenity Or get the paperback Those left behind.

8) Watch the BDM (thats what us Browncoats call the Serenity movie... It means BIG DAMN MOVIE. Derived from the line by Zoe in the episode "Safe"... "Big Damn Heroes, Sir!")

9) Watch all Bonus material on the BDM DVD

10) Repeat step 8 But this time with Joss Whedons commentary track on

11) Read the novelazation of the BDM, There are a few Non-Joss insights that are aluded to in the book.

12) Read "Finding Serenity" edited by Jane Espenson, Its a clever compilation of essays written by different folk influenced by Firefly/Serenityhttp:// www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1932100431/fireflyfansne-20?creative=3
27641&camp=14573&link_code=as1

13) Pick up the visual companion, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1845760824/sr=8-8/qid=1154104359/ref=
pd_bbs_8/104-7343664-1526304?ie=UTF8
and the movie magazine for Serenity... Nothing in there that any diehard Browncoat wont already know, But a joy none-the less. Also...The Firefly Visual Companion... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1845763149/sr=8-5/qid=1154104359/ref=
pd_bbs_5/104-7343664-1526304?ie=UTF8

14) Read "the Killer Angels" By Michael Shaara. It is a book that Joss read, and was moved by the mood, and honesty of, to the point of inspiration.

15) Buy the soundtracks to Firefly and Serenity... Listen to them in your car... pretend your flying

16) Buy all 5 action figures, thats 2 Mals 2 Jaynes and a Reaver.... Make them fight on your desk at work

17) Pick up the role playing game manual... Some feel this important

18) Go to http://www.donetheimpossible.com ...Order your copy of thr DVD

19) Buy a BLUE SUN shirt on ebay and wear it while rocking back and forth in the dark, in the fetal postion, thumb in your mouth, wondering how this show was not the slamdunk hit of the decade.

20) Repeat step 19

21) Repeat step 19

Now Any of you Browncoats noticed that I missed anything....lemmee know and I'll paste it in. (If I deem it to be something that enhances the verse') Some of you may have a beef with the order I placed 2 through 5 in. Its just a preference... any mixing of 2-5 wont hinder shit. Same goes for 8 through 13. Enjoy!!

One more tiny thing to add is the Easter eggs from both the series and the movie. They are a small but worthwhile thing for every Firefly fan to watch. Here is a link on how to find them:

Okay, NotLogical, I gotta ask -- if you haven't seen any Firefly/Serenity at all, how did you find out about it and decide you had to see it? And how did you find *us*, for that matter?

Let me be (one of) the first to welcome you to your new home in the 'verse... whatever that is. We know you're gonna love it!

Well Don it goes like this,
I enjoy my sci-fi(as long as it's done well) so when Serenity the movie came out I researched it & found it was based on the Firefly series. At this point I thought to myself "self, your gonna have to check this out someday", I agreed with myself(a "rarer than you think" occurrence) & stored it away for future access.
Yesterday I installed the new "Amazon Unbox"(movie/TV show download client from Amazon) & was looking through the list of available shows. Sure enough "Firefly" episodes were on the list. This triggered a stored memory, Ah yes that's right, I want to check this out. I soon found myself on the "boxed set" purchase page reading customer reviews for Firefly. Among these reviews was one from one of your members, they refered to this site & that's how I ended up here.
To be honest I thought I'd find a ghost site because after all the series was cancelled in 2003, but much to my surprise it was very much alive. What could induce such commitment? such die-hard dedication? THAT'S IT! I have to experience this drug-like addiction(WARNING: Nonmedicinal drugs are bad for you!) for myself.
Sooo to cut a long story short(Dam! it's already a long story), I went out to my local video store & bought the boxed set. I watched the first 4 episodes then had to crash. Today I will continue my quest & soon I will be fully versed(notice what I did there) with all that is "Firefly".

Sorry about the dribble but I'm feeling pretty shiny at the moment & felt I had to relate my story in detail.

Go to a toy store or any discount store's toy department and buy 2 cheap dinosauars to play with. They must be a stegosaurus and a T-rex in order to recreate "This Land".

When not being used they are to propped on the top of your monitor if it's not an LCD one. Put them beside the monitor is it is LCD. They will provide all sorts of Wash fun.

And don't forget, once you're well 'versed in Firefly lore, start to convert others. My wife and I have the tactic of loaning out disk 1 of the BDS (Big Damned Series), then when it's returned and the request comes for the rest we tell them they need to go out and buy their own copy. The series has also become our most frequent gift for birthdays, house-warmings, whatever.

Can't stop the signal.

People like to fly with us 'cos our ship's

that up with a mug of Mudder's Milk.

Then you are invited up to the galley to question

Ghost site? Mmm. You are #22464. We just
keep on growing. Nope, SereniFly turned out to
have more staying power than some folks expected.
We are back on the air, the original
episodes airing on SciFi, the movie on HBO. Our
presence is noticeable at conventions. There are
other fine sites, and many of us cross back and
forth (sometimes it depends on who's up and who's
down).

Be sure to spread the love to others in your orbit.
The more of us there are, making our presence known,
the greater the chance we'll get more of the 'Verse
and the shiny ship and crew we love.

Hmmm...gobsmacked I am.
All I can say again is Thankyou!
To date I have watched 13 of the 14 episodes. I would have watched the last 1 but I know that's where the series ends & I don't want it to.
I have no idea what's in the last episode so it will be a complete surprise to me.
It sits there taunting me like the last bite in THE most delicious meal you can imagine.
Do I give in to these almost unbearable convulsions of expectation? or do I continue my spasmodic salivation(I've had to change my shirt 5 times already) for a little longer?
Anyone jealous? HeHe..
Anyways, today is the day. In writing that stuff I was actually teasing myself & I can't wait any longer.
Be honest with me now, is there really any hope of new episodes or is blind faith the measure of the day?
Let me down gently

It puts you in a category all by yourself ( I mean that in a good way). I mean the enthusiasm and dedication of the browncoats here has lured you into signing up sight unseen,GREAT!

I had a question for you but Doncoat asked it first and you gave your (good) answer.Anyway glad to have you here. I assume that you have finally taken the plung and seen the last eps.If you haven't, what are you waiting for?

NotLogical, let me see if I can help ya here.

Firefly is the second SF series to get a movie (ie: theater not TV movie) after it was cancalled by the network. The first was Star Trek.

It took Star Trek about 12 years to get that first movie.

It took Firefly three years.

Like Trek, Firefly fandom is continually expanding, not contracting as most fandoms do when the show is no longer on the air.

Like Star Trek fans, Browncoats are willing to spend money to get things related to that show. Some things the manufacturers have had a hard time keeping in stock. The Series DVD was unavaliable in a number of areas the first 4 months it was out due to the demand. The T-shirts at Hot Topic sell out relatively quickly.

Merchandising--especially the DVDs--is a big money maker for production companies. Add to that we're making ourselves seen and heard. We write them (Universal), we've organized charity screenings (which did great things for 'Equality Now' this past June) but also did nice things for Universal.

Nothing is a gimme. If we want more, we have to do something to get it. Which brings us to the current day. We're recruiting more and more folks every day. We're writing Universal, SciFi, (basically anyone we think may actually listen to us) and let them know what we want and who we are; that we appreciate good programming and support those who sponser it. We have incomes we're willing to spend on it. And we appreciate what they've already done for us. This is ALL important.

So, iffin ya want more, join the fight. We're holding until the Capt'n gets back.
