So, what are we discussing today?

Sure, I can manage that
I think we were discussing mild ESP, seeing lighting before it struck, and the effects of battered and shattered friendships and romances...
Oh dear, how depressing

I'll back up to the eharmony thing that was going... I avoided that because I heard about the religion angle, and the people on the TV commercials are annoying. But, not to be a commercial of my own, I found my man after my profile sat on match.com for 2 months. So i guess it can work.

Hi Copilot! Good to see you! *waves*

Friends that turn icky... hmm. I've had those, and they really suck!

But this makes me think about how I'm having a very stupid resentment forming against a very dear friend. It is SO stupid and I'm hoping it'll go away, but maybe I should tell him? I so don't want this to be a problem between us!

Thank you, PR!
Mild ESP...not really. Ocassionally get weird flashes, but nothing major. Love lightning! Don't think I've ever seen any before it struck, though.
As for online dating sites, I have nothing to add to the discussion. I've never used one, so... I'll sit back and learn.

You've GOT to tell him. Things like that festor and turn nasty, or can. Lay it out in the nicest way you can. Sometimes just bringing to light can difuse it entirely.

My friend tried eharmony and found a great guy. She picked him because in the "what's the first thing people notice about you" section he'd answered " my third eye" She figured he had a sense of humor that dovetailed with hers and she was right:)

I think online dating is getting to be a good way to just meet a bunch of different people. Mainly 'cause it's really hard. Usually your dating pool is confined to people you work with, people your friends set you up with, and random people you meet( which is weird) and even if it doesn't work out, at least you'll meet a pool of new people to draw from. If I were single, I'd do eharmony and match.com just so I could have a chance at meeting some people:)

You're totally right! He just did something that hurt my feelings, and it's silly, but I think he'd understand. And I know he didn't mean anything by it! It's just... hurt feelings, you know?

MSG - I agree. Especially living in a small town like a I do, it's difficult to meet similar people. The online dating broadens the pool!

The religious angle of eharmony doesn't bother me. And it really accurately described the man I think I want. To the point that my friends were like shocked at how well suited this fictitious person sounded. To bad they can't just produce him. Now there would be a service I would pay $60/month for.

I did a match.com one, but didn't join so I don't know if it shows up. Wait...just checked. It's there. Ugh, those catch lines are so hard. Mine's lame, but whatever.

Edited: On the friend issue: I've never had one say that didn't really like me, but I have had some interesting conversations and one that ended with us not being as close. She was really hurtful and I figured if she really thought the things she was saying about me that she couldn't really like me all that much. We're still in contact, but only ocassionally.

Did have another friend, closest one from college, decided that I was chasing her non-SO (she was basically in a job where she was his superior and was told to wait to date him until that was resolved...which would've been approx. nine months.) I've NEVER chased a man in my entire life. I'm the antithesis of a chaser. He, in fact, was pursuing me...and I was the one that put the brakes on. 'Course that's not the way either of them tell the story (they're married now).

I have had friends that while I'm close to, I fully recognize that their friendship is an effort for me. These are usually people that are very different than I am. I'm the quintessential strong silent type. When a friend is more of the emotional type, I have difficulties. The friendship, while valued, is tiring. One of my current friends is like this. I love her to death, but wowee can she be a bit draining. I think it's really important to recognize those differences...and to enjoy them, if possible. It helps expand your perspective on situations and the world in general.

I also had friends who can be very draining to be around...especially in college. I was known as a straight-talker, and did not like to mince words when people came to me. I could not stand those emotional bundles; the drama queens and drama kings...unfortunately, I spent most of college in the Drama department...glutton for punishment, I guess.

*sigh* Yeah, not a lot going on with any of my profiles right now. I don't want to pay for it, but I'm thinking about it. There has been no follow-up with the drool-worthy one. Stupid boy.
OMG though, I have a total crush on one of the baristas at the coffee place I always go to. I've gotten to talk to him a couple times, briefly (he works graveyard and sometimes I'm one of the only people in there) and he's just so enthusiastic about coffee. I know that sounds weird, but there's something about being an expert on something and enjoying your job, even if it involves coffee, that is totally attractive. But how do you make a move on a handsome barista at a very popular coffee shop right next to the college? For one, very surprised if he's single. For two, what do I say? "You wanna have a cup of coffee?"
Anyway. I have apparently flirted with him quite skillfully so far, according to a friend of mine. Don't know if it will go anywhere, but it's nice just to have a crush on somebody!
Yeah, I still have one friendship that's a bit draining. She's got issues. We keep growing apart and then getting close again.

Top of the mornin' to y'all.

Friends. Bestest friend borrowed money the other day for prescription and said she'd have it right back. Did I say other day. I mean a week ago. ried calling a few times, but she either has her husband answer the phone, or lets the machine pick up. Kinda irritating. She could at least tell me to wait for payday instead of blowing me off. Fine, lie to me. But don't compound the problem by avoiding the problem.

As for the ESP thing, I mentioned that most of it is probably a compilation of stimuli, (heart rate, body temp, body language, brain waves, etc.). Had another feeling last night while driving to the store with GND. Kinda cool though. She turned down the radio and we just talked. Didn't even notice it was pretyy much off until we got home. Starting to feel she has something to say but is afraid to say it.

Look at that. Rambling again. Guess I should do some work now.

Great topic ! It hits very close to home.Literally.

I was very close friends with my next door neighbor I mean like the next apartment down, not even a driveway seperating us.We both have children the same age & have known each other although not well, all our lives. We've spent the last 6 years as part of each others families.Last month she just stopped talking to me.Out of nowhere.I tried to be a good friend ,always.I have no idea why this happened & even my children are upset now .Which realy makes me angry.
I guess we weren't as close as I thought.Hurts some though.Especially because she's always right there when I leave my house.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my rant.I feel a little better now.

I have friends like that where they're cool people and all but we just don't mix well. I mean my close friends I can hold converstations with for hours with no problems. Some other people though we can't go 10 seconds without hitting an awkward pause. I have a few of those types of friends and I always have to be sure never to go do anything with just a group of them.

Okay. So I see her reading a crap load of Gorram romance novels. Thumbing through, I can't stand them. Drama, biulding tension, sex, then some teisted ending. Just don't get the attraction.

Romance novels are to real romance as porn is to real sex. Sure, they seem to serve the same purpose, but it is merely a fantasy.
I've heard it explained as having likened effects to men and women. Men can get into porn because of the visual aspect. Women can get into the novels because of the cerebral aspect.

I want romance and all, but this is the real world. It just ain't happenin' 24 seven. I guess in little doses throughout the day is fine.

Think I need to work on my fantasy world more. Kinda lost touch with it lately.

MsG- I had this problem, too. Look at the lock itself and see if it has any numbers on it. Then, call locksmiths in your area, explain the problem, give him/her the number and see if they have that number key on file. (It has to be the kind of place that makes keys, not just opens your car door.)

I did this, and $2 later had myself a new key.

The two most romantic books I've ever read are The Amber Spyglass (third book in His Dark Materials trilogy) by Philip Pullman and The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. They're also cracking stories to read. Yes, you'll have to read the first two His Darm Materials books first, but it is so very worth it.

Another good one is The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory which covers all kinds of love.

I'm an unabashed escapist. I usually carry around a fantasy novel in my coat pocket, for when I get laid up. Not much into the romance angle, more for the tragic romance. For example, I actually got choked up when I read the end of Temple of the Winds, which is mostly fantasy, but at that point, was talking about the protagonist giving the very last bit of his life to save the woman he loved. It ended up okay, and it wasn't the first time I'd read it, but for some reason, it just hit me. I guess I'm that kind of romantic...

As for draining friends, I have one who I have to moderate my time with. He's a great guy, don't get me wrong, but his mind and thought processes just function at such a different wavelength than mine, and after a while, I just need to wind down for a mite.

I got others who don't drain on me nearly as much, but I seldom come into contact with them, either because they work, because they live fairly far away, or because they are Luddites (I kid you not).

Well, midnight. Time for sleeping now.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

*coughs a bit at the mention of porn and real sex* Well, now, I think real sex tends to be a lot better than porn. Of course there's not really that random aspect. Maybe that's what makes it truly better.
My ex told me once that we were "the ultimate porn couple". I'm sure if we had stayed together I would have found myself being videotaped at some point. Not sure how I feel about that kind of thing.
Oooooo, Temple of the Winds! Been awhile since I read that one... *remembers and gets a little teary-eyed* Gorrammit I wanna read the new one! I hate my library. They had it for me, didn't call me, e-mailed me on the last day I could have gone to get it, now I've lost my spot! So mad...
I'm sorry, what were we talking about? I haven't read romance books, per se, but there's nothing wrong with a well-done sex scene. Anne Bishop weaves in the sexy and the romance aspect very well. I am so in love with her books. Dark and creepy and sensual. Mmmmmmmm...

Um, I've been videotaped (With prior consent), not for public consumption or anything, just for fun.

I thought I'd hate watching it, kind of like hating seeing pictures of myself but 10 times worse, but actually it was quite hot. What I hate about most porn is that sometimes it seems so fake. I was 100% sure that I was having a good time on that tape and watching that really got the blood pumping!

I'd be mortified if anyone else ever saw it though!

Does this seem right to you?

I have no idea how to even respond to any of this stuff. Guess I'm just very innocent. (Oooh, I typed that with a straight face, and everything...)

Last time I dug about in the mental closet for stuff on this thread, I unleashed a gloom-demon which ate my head for the weekend. So I'll keep it buttoned.

On a plus side, I found a fellow Browncoat the other evening in the pub. We drank too much and cackled horribly. I don't think we sang the Hero of Canton, but it was close...He works with my husband, who just buried his head in his hands and moaned.

MsG - recipe thread would be cool. I posted a Truffles recipe a while back. I'm trying to perfect a Barbecue sauce at present, but it's not quite ready to inflict.

ed: books. Just finished a Christopher Fowler, have a CSI book in my bag, all cosied up to my notebook of scary. I have two entire bookshelves, where every book has murder, blood or death in the title. Granted, I write crime fiction, when I'm not sailing the Black, as it were, but some folks find it mighty disturbing...
