Hey y'all. Browncoats at Dragon*Con are working toward making us a shiny shindig about 7 days from today. I'm looking for ideas from you folks as to what could put a serious Browncoat spin on the festivities. Got thoughts on what could make it better? The trick is there ain't much time to plan, since the room for this only came open recently, apparently. Last time they had a Browncoat Shindig at D*C it was all disco and not much flash or fun. I know there'll be a lot of BDH costumers coming this time, including me in Companion garb but what else could we do to help? Cheap Asian games? What music ideas? Games? Prizes? All well-meant help will be listened to. I'm a D*C go-er who just wants to help out any way I can.

Are you IN Atlanta ? Did you not hear of the SEBC meeting today? I'm sure they bounced some ideas around, much like happened last year. And hey, it WAS fun last year, least I thought so. Hate to say it, but if you're in the 'organizing ' end of the Shindig, you're WAY behind schedule. Don't know the particulars of this year's event, ( not attending D*C* and all ), but we had a couple of meetings and discussed what on earth to do, and all our 'work' was for not, as the D*C folks basically did the lighting, tables/charis set up, etc....

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Where can we get more info--is it on the Dragon*Con site?

Sounds number one to me!

Now see here, Au: I'm at the arse-end of the continent in Washington State, okay? I'm just trying to marshall what limited resources I have out here. Want to help, is all. I'll be with a troop of 5 browncoats in one Mariott hotel room who got a random e-mail from a person who attended D*C last year who said the shindig wasn't all that and a bag of chips. No worries, the person ALSO said that it wasn't Browncoats' fault, the thing was run by D*C staff and was over-run with non-browncoats in attendance who sorta watered it down. The mole DID mention it was more disco than much else. I have no idea. I am a GREEN Browncoat, and I'm also probably on the hate-list now, if you've forwarded my well-meant thread subject to the organizers at SEBC, to whom I right here and now pledge my undying apology and let them know that I meant ZERO offense. Just trying to help, Folks. I'll step aside, secure in the knowledge that most of them are kind and true and capable as Simon in surgery, with the exception of maybe one who just climbed up my arse about my posting what was truly only an attempt to help. Sorry for the orneryness, I didn't meant to besmirch current operations. Heck, I know how I'd feel if Washington Browncoats were in charge of the shindig and some upstart from Florida jumped up and said "Howdy, y'all don't know what the heck you're doing." *fades and hopes nobody remembers her name once she's at D*C this year.

Hiya Patience! Yeah, it DOES sound shiny, don't it? I'm way much excited at the prospect, disco or no disco. Since AURAPTOR sounds well-informed, I'd click on his name in yellow (see his post?) and then drop him a note on his profile in the white box to the left side there. I didn't know where to look on the D*C site, or I'd direct you there. I hope Auraptor can help you some, maybe by getting you in touch with a good source for what's what. Ciao for now.

As to info on the D*C site, I'm not sure there's much there, as this thing just came together this week. I know that Serenity & the other members of the SEBC are workin' their arses off trying to get this up and runnin'.

I don't really have any ideas, as the music (no matter what flavor) is usually too loud at these things for much talking/game playing/what have you.

Yes, I was disappointed in the Shindig last year. Let's be clear...it wasn't DISCO, it was RAVE, as in techno-deep bass-glow sticks-Rave. I appreciated all of the effort put forth by the organizers, it just wasn't my kinda thing. (You see, I'm an old chick who went to school in the '80s.)

My only suggestion would be to drop a buck or two or twenty in the donation jar on the SEBC fan table, as everything at the Shindig is paid for out of their own pockets.

'K. I'm done blatherin' now.

No arse climbin' here, I can assure you. And it's awesome you're traversing the great fly over country to make D*C. ( I was in Seattle myself for a wedding back in May. I'm a big fan of the NW Territory ) If you've not been to D*C before, you're in for a treat. My only point per the Shindig is that LAST year was the 1st one , and was met w/ all manner of 'last minute' changes. D*C indeed did take control of much of the details, and much of the concepts we had batted around fell by the wayside. It wasn't a total bust, ( a good crowd did make the scene ) but it was quite a bit different than what most had expected. And yes, there was dancing. Loud music and such. And great costumes too!

Anyway, I'm sure you've surfed the site and traded e-mails w/ folks far more in the know than I per THIS year's Shindig. I wish I go my own self.

But just wanted to let ya know that it's all shiny! Because it ....it just is!

Hey, you can't be old! I went to school in the 80's, and I'm not old. Am I ?

I do recall music suggestions for last year's Shindig, before it got transformed into said 'Rave' party. Various country artist, more of a folksy variety than say Shania Twain / Toby Kieth stuff. And for the Chinese flavor, Twelve Girls Band is can't miss. But I'm sure by now most of that has been addressed.

Okies, Auraptor. Thankee for the kindness of your reply to my bruised head. I see that you only meant the best for Browncoats, defending the 'coats is something I've done more than a time or two too. :0)

Sorry I won't be able to meetcha at this year's Con. If I see your nametag next year, I'll issue a hug, if you'll have one.

Keep flyin'.

And thanks for the note too, Boomer! Y'all are good folks.

Bad2Verse and I would be willing to drop a buck or twenty or so to help.

I'm just discovering our wonderful 'verse of sites and organizations and other fans, even. Let's get started earlier next year so we can have the BDShindig anybody ever saw.

I look forward to seeing other BCs there.

Me you too, Patience! I'll be looking for your nametag thereabouts. And agreed about starting planning the BDS a mite sooner. No fault, this late planner here, though. Things just sorta came together for the SEBC, see.

Patience? Ain't you the one shot our dear and fluffy captain once upon a time?

Hey all. I live in Geaorgia, so I get the regular e-mails about what's goin on. Anyway, the SEBC have this site for the shindig: http://www.southeasternbrowncoats.org/dragoncon.html. Atlanta Browncoats also have a site dedicated to it as well as the wake, and it has more info, along with a more comprehensive schedule, and other info to go along. http://www.atlantabrowncoats.com/more/index.cfm?Fuseaction=more_19866. Check it out!

May you have enough.

Huggling the heck outta you, Drac, and thanking you big-time. The links rock, and they answer every question my fellow 'coats and I have. May you always float like a leaf in the wind, but without the shishkabob effect.
