... was very disappointing. I felt the need to share that before someone else succumbed to the hype about it being "the scariest movie" ever seen...

My Short Review: British Horror, much like British Humor; you don't HAVE to be British to "get" it... but it helps.

Worth renting, but I would discourage spending the $15 it costs to see a movie in the theatre these days!

If there's enough response to this post, I'll give you my long review...

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

A.) 28 days later was one of the best horror films I've ever seen... and I've seen it six times thus far. It had good dialogue, acting, music, visual effects... it had it all. Most of the people I know who hate all movies loved this film.

B.) Hello? British Comedy? Monty Python...

I think you might have gone in expecting an american horror film... blood, guts, gore, bad acting, and breasts ... which this wasn't at all.
I would so put it up there with the original Alien though.

I'm a fan of Monty Python, though I don't find it as funny as some people do. ...The Holy Grail and Life of Brian are definitely in my list of favorite movies. However, it's true that a lot of people just don't understand British comedy.

Case in point: (SPOILER WARNING)

The drive through the tunnel. Filled with car wrecks and bodies. It became a "fun" little adventure to drive over the debris (apparently on the hoods and roofs of the wrecked cars? wtf?), as they were all laughing and smiling. wheee....

... oh... while we're having some fun, let's take a quick little romp through the grocery store (lights still on and everything!!!), which has been AMAZINGLY UNDISTURBED, even though the doors were unlocked, and the lights were on... hmmm...

As I said, it just didn't rate very highly on my "Scare-O-Meter". Nothing to shock or surprise the viewer.

All in all, it just doesn't live up to the hype, which was the original statement in my post. I'm sure an American version could have been done a LOT better, even if we would have had to deal with the occasional "fan service" of breasts and sex, with a bit of blood and gore!

I liked 28 Days Later. Saw it on opening night. I'm with Zeke, the dialogue, acting, music and visual effects were great. Now it wasn't the "scariest movie" ever but it was still a great film. For me the scariest movie I've ever seen was the Exorcist but other people disagree with me. To each his own. One bit of advice, never go into a film expecting to be scared or thrilled because you won't be. Go in to enjoy a film. You'll get a more harmonious outcome.

Oh, I found the store scene to be a homage to George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. Maybe it was just me?

Like all genres I think you need to compare a movie to others in its genre. With comedies you have to rate them on whether it was funny or not, not on big explosions or good acting. Same with a horror/thriller. You need to compare it to other scary movies. Sure 28 Days Later had a few scary parts, but it certainly wasn't the scariest movie ever. Anyways I think the media was saying it was the scariest movie of the summer, not the scariest movie ever. Considering there wasn't any other scary movies this summer, then I would have to agree with them. And for those that thought this movie was the scariest you need to see some other scary movies to see if you still stand behind your comments. For example: The Ring, 13 Ghosts, Phantoms, Jeepers Creepers, The House On Haunted Hill, Pitch Black, The Cell, The Cube, Frailty, Joy Ride, Signs, Ravenous, Resident Evil, Red Dragon, The Sixth Sense, or Stir of Echoes are some of my favorites to come out of the past few years. You should also check out Hitchcocks, Exorcists, Halloweens, and Fridays to expand your horizons a bit.

The movie was perfectly fine and worth paying full price if you are in the mmod to go out. Wasn't the scariest horror movie ever, by far. Not sure what I would label the scariest - Maybe the original "The Haunting".

British Comedy - Come on now! AB FAB, Mr Bean, Black Adder, Graham Norton and Coupling have all had me rolling on the floor.

P.s. They are adding an alternate ending about 4 minutes long to 28 days after July 25.

Morbid and creep-ifying I got no problem with.

I wanted to see 28 Days Later when it came out on my birthday. Sadly, it was sold out, so we saw "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," which was awesome, btw (a 10 out of 10). So 2 weeks later me and my twin brother went and we were like "okay, now we're gonna see it" but it was sold out again, so we ended up seeing T3, which was much much better than I expected (a 9 out of 10). A few days ago, my friend Casey called me up wanting to see a movie, but she doesn't like horror films (she thought "X-Men 2" was scary), so we saw "Pirates of the Caribbean," which was very good (8/10).

So I still have to see 28DL, which looks awesome, IMO, although I might not get the chance for awhile. My friend Erin is having a birthday party on Friday, so we'll probably see a movie, but I know see does not want to see 28DL, so maybe I can convince her we should see "American Wedding."

btw, what's "Cherry Falls?" I've never heard of that one.

I liked 28 Days Later when I first saw it in the theater, but as time went by, I liked it less and less. It just all seemed so contrived.

The acting was fine (Mr. Bridges was my favorite character and even though I knew he was going to have to die at some point, the way it happened still surprised me), the filmography was fine, the script is what I have problems with. There were a few surprises, but for the most part it fit too well together.

The Ring - now that was a scary movie.

The Ring wasn't all that scary, just the kid at the end. That kinda freaked me out. I haven't seen 28 Days Later, so I don't know what I'm doing here. BTW, Cherry Falls (correct me if I'm wrong) was a SciFi Original Picture about a killer killin virgins. Correct? Yes/no?

cherry falls is a slasher film about a guy who murders vigins, badly written, badly acted. evil!.

the japanise version of the ring has me crapping myself, the us version was great too the camera angles were killer.

Whatever the hype, 28 Days Later was not a horror movie front or foremost. It had some scares, it had some gore, but I didn't get the feeling that that was the point they were going for.

It was more of a thinker film (the more I thought about it, the more I realized this) than a scary movie.

Very subtely, it asked the question: What is the point of life? Selena stated in the beginning that all she wants to do is survive. That she has no grand plan but to keep breathing. No plans to find a cure and save the day. No plans to fall in love and find meaning in others. But that I believe was the big to-do behind the movie: what is the point in surviving if you have to sacrifice your humanity to do so?
To be specific:

The soldiers believe that they are the last vestiges of human civilization, and have a plan to continue the species. They need women to do that. And so they plot to enact atrocities upon their own species in the goal of ensuring their species survival (I also noted some anti-military vibes, but that's besides the point, it could have been any group of men).

Specifically, they hold Selena and Hannah against their will in order to satisfy their lust as well as to get them pregnant.

Funny that the 'zombies' were going around doing the same thing: perpetuating their species, spreading the virus.

What really freaked me out was the end when Jim is suddenly transformed into this hellion, running around, doing his damnedest to save the two people who 'belong to his tribe' for lack of a better way to put it (Frank did set out for this refuge with Jim and Selena as a failsafe for Hannah in case something happened to him, so Jim is responsible for her now). What disturbed me was that Jim became the monster to defeat those he thought were his allies.

Oh, and the "That was longer than a heartbeat" was just beautiful. I really feared for Jim's life in that moment.

The grocery shopping scene and the ride through the tunnel struck me as light moments in the movie so that it wasn't all doom and gloom and white knuckles. Yes, a lot of plot points made no sense, but I don't think those things were the point of the movie.

In the end, Selena found that there was more to life than survival. There was love, and hope. That meaning was found in others, otherwise you might as well be dead (which may be why she hesitated with Jim).

I think everyone should see this if only to see the physical transformation Jim goes through: from Man-ape Gone Wrong to *sigh*
