What I love about a film that’s released on DVD are the out takes. What’s disappointing is when you view the out takes you wished they hadn't been removed. Eventually a Director’s cut, or extended version hits the market with the out takes restored. Has anyone heard of this happening with Serenity?

I agree it would be good with the out takes but the the scene with the Operative on the Alliance ship with his glasses would have been competely out of place in Serenity the set looks so dodgy and those Alliance soldier uniform's are so rubbish.

The scenes that were cut were done so for very good reason as Joss explains in the commentaries. As neat as some of those really are, for the flow of the story I understand completely why they were cut. However, I'd love to see some sort of double disc special edition with more documentary and fans stuff and whatnot.

As far as I've heard the film that was released was Joss's vision. He stands by it. It is the director's cut.

What Zeek said.

However, there could still be a "shiny edition" -- aka an expanded cut.

I saw the movie before the series, and after watching the deleted scenes, I realized I would have understood the characters and the plot a lot better if they'd been left in. For example; the Mal/Inara scene in her shuttle where he asked her why she left, etc.--it would've helped me understand their relationship a lot better. For people who were already fans, it was probably okay to delete the stuff that was taken out, but it would have helped first-time viewers A LOT if some of them had been left in.

Actually, ST, the scenes were left out specifically for first-time viewers. All the deleted scenes did was muddle the plot and slow the momentum (it's not verbatum, but Joss said it).

Besides, deleted scenes are goodies for the DVD, which encourages people to buy it - and then, they must know more about all the characters, so they buy Firefly. It's delighfully evil.

Yeah, joss has said that he feels that director's cuts imply too much of a battle between the director and the studio, that shouldnt be there. I think Joss is white-lieing about the movie version being his 'vision' though... Joss' visions always have more dialogue in them!

Hey, yinyang, let's play tag the troll, keep the world safe! We're already sorta doing it over multiple threads!

"But, these strong women characters?"

I fear the world will never be safe...

Oh, wait, that's sort of philosophical. But, yes, I do like playing tag - although I'm not sure exactly what that entails on the boards. Mighten you explain that to me a bit? I'm normally a fast learner, but I'm distracted by something on my computer.

Besides the "troll tagging" I agree with this post. If joss had his way there would have been a lot more dialogue. He could make a whole Buffy ep with no one leaving the library. I am sure he had many arguments with the studio about Serenity.

Oh, I'm sorry, Kaneman - I just realized that Whitefall and I left you out of our game. You're welcome to join if you want. After all, the more the merrier!

WHITEFALL

Dangit Kaneman, i'm plain confused now. You just made a completely non-inflammatory post, and offered a valid opinion.

I... i'm not sure what to do now, if you're not going to antagonize the threads around here, I dunno what yinyang and I will do with our game of tag. (which btw, entails the hopping between threads, seemingly together, taging one another as we amazingly post at the same time to counter Kaneman. So ya see how the plan falls apart if Kaneman is gonna stop being confrontational.)

Don't worry, Whitefall. Trolls are easy to find. And, as I offered above, Kaneman can join us in our merry hob!
