Many of you have said that turning on 'Firefly' or 'Serenity' feels like coming home...

So I'm curious, which scene makes you feel the most like you've come home? I absolutely feel the same way...when I have a bad day at work, I play a Firefly episode in my head while people are talking at me, and then just pretend I'm listening.

There are many scenes that are obviously meant to make you feel that way, playing ball in "Bushwhacked", and the dinner at the end of "Safe." I think, however, that I really respond to the part in "Bushwhacked" when everyone is getting moved to the Alliance ship, when Kaylee says "But Captain, did you hear what that purple-belly called Serenity?" And he just responds with "Shut up!" It sounds more like how a brother would say it, and it always gets a little smile.

Thoughts?

Mal: You know, you ain't quite right.
River: It's the popular theory.

Maybe when Mal hugs RIver at the end in Objects In Space or at the end of Safe.

Excuse me Darkfly, Mal never hugged River. Mal hugged Kaylee in Ariel, it was spontaneous, somthing Nathan did himself. He caught River in OIS when she flew down from Early's ship. Simon hugged River in Safe when he told the villagers to light the pyre. Just needed to clear that up.

If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting

The scene where Mal is walking down the stairs and he touches Kaylee;s hand.

Jayne sitting outside the infirmary when they are working on Kaylee.

The looks that pass between Mal and Zoe, Wash and Zoe, River and Simon.

Book loading a weapon to help save Mal and Wash.

Pretty much all of it!

In general it all feels like home. Can't go hardly a week without watching an episode or the BDM.

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

When Mal hugs Kaylee in "Ariel." Oh, and when Mal makes a joke like this: "See, this is a sign of your tragic space dementia. All paranoid and crotchety. Breaks the heart." Or, anytime Mal and Inara fight.

And, hearing "The Ballad of Serenity" gives me warm fuzzies, too.

I'm gonna weigh in on this one and say "out of gas".
At the end when he asks "ya'll gonna be here when I wake up" then flashes to when he found Serenity.

You know pretty much how Mal feels about his crew and espescially his ship.

That was exactly what I was thinking.

There was also the "Shindig" episode. It says a lot about how Mal views his crew. He calls Inara a whore constantly, yet he would die for her, and for anybody else on the crew.

He really would. I was watching the deleted scenes, and what Zoe said about him having lost his trust, I don't believe is true. Think about what he said to Saffron/Yolande (WHY?!)... He has a crew who trust each other. And in the main, I think it's because of Mal, and the trust they have in him.

no your right about that.
though I think that he is tortured because of the war in Serenity Valley and that trust only extends to those on his ship who-- dare I say have proven themselves to him

Yeah, it took him a while with Simon and River, but it's obvious from the little "conversation" him and Jayne had at the end of Ariel, that he considered them to be his crew.

I know what you mean. Me and a really good mate were watching it at the same time, texting each other about what we thought of the episodes, because she'd not seen it before. I quote here: "I thought this would be crap, but it's brilliant!"

The thing which I think makes it so appealing is that there is something about pretty much all of the characters you can relate too. :-)

Me and Sam (girl I work with) have alloted characters to us and the others at work, based around which we are reminded of.

Yeah, that is very true. It's the one which shows most clearly their closeness, and how tight knit the group is.

I second many of the above for the Homey-Feeling of FF, but would add this:

In "Safe", when Simon looks up at his River tied to the fire-wood, she's saying some River-babble like "Posts to make holes".....and he knows exactly what he is to do, he willingly walks up into the fire-wood, puts his arms around his sister, and says "light it". And the look on his face when River says "....time to go...."

Either that, or anytime the Reavers Feast

Oooh, good question. On a bad day, I default to OMR. It's the episode where I really fell in love with the show, especally Mal. There is also the Mal Greatest Hits List. I'm gonna look nuts, but here goes.
"None of it means a damn thing." from OIS
The end of Ariel when he's talkin' to Jayne.
Dancing with Inara in Shindig.
Heart of Gold, the bit from doin' the deed with Nandi onward to the end. My heart breaks for him every time Inara says shes leaving.
The Mean Old Man thing in the pilot.
As much as I love the 'Verse all over, I am a Mal fan in the end.
I do have issues, but I enjoy them!

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

WOW Darkfly - that is so awesome! And so true! As soon as I read what you say about the FFFfamily as I refer to them... I mean...US!! I thought - now that is so true! We bond over the show but we are so much a part of one another's lives that we share much much more than just Firefly observations - check out the imponderables thread any time!!

For me, regarding the show, there are so many little moments that create the whole feel. I loved the show the moment Kaylee kissed Mal and said "I love my captain" and the look he throws to Jayne! I was home from that moment on...

When River returns to Serenity at the end of Objects in Space I think of a father holding out his arms so his toddler can take her first steps to him. It's kind of symbolic of River's growth in the show and I am sure we'd have noted that had we been allowed to see the next 6-&-a-half-years of Firefly...

Dinner at the start of Out of Gas - the warmth, laughter, family-ness
Zoe laughing at Shepherd Book when he is bewildered at why River hides from his hair (well her tone of voice says she's laughing on the inside)
Jayne picking up Kaylee & carrying her to the engine room in Serenity
Almost any moment with Simon & River including when she says "I threw up on your bed..." & he smiles wryly and says "That's my sister"
Moments between Wash and Zoe - the chemistry of those two is palpable - I want a relationship that good!
Mal's face when he knows what he has to do is going against his & Wash's instict and love for Zoe - but he steps forward, pins Wash to the wall and orders him to go to the bridge even though Zoe might be dying...
Jayne's awkwardness when he doesn't know what to say - that always betrays the fact that he cares what the other person thinks of him. His look after Simon saves the patient in recovery's life, and knows that he is already on the path to betrayal of him... (tears me up that one!)
The fact that Mal looks like he could cry when he says to Inara "you spin me around.... I wish you was any place else but here..." in the BDM

I could go on - but I have life to live...

Love you all though my shiney-Firefly-family-people! - Magdalena x x x

Wash's dinos on the pilot console in "Serenity."

Simon and Kaylee in the crew lounge in "OiS."

The whole lounge area, actually. It just reminds me of a family living room. Coupla mis-matched carpets, a tattered sofa, a coffee-table, some easy-chairs, a metal chair from somewhere, the bookshelves built into the bulkhead, the kitchy pole-lamp. . .

What scene makes me feel like I'm coming home, when I turn on Firefly/Serenity? Probably Mal's line to Simon, at the end of Safe, "Chow's in ten, no need to dress." As well as the following dinner sequence.
