Ok! Help settle a bet between my husband and I!
In the episode "Serenity", Jayne, Mal and Zoe are walking towards the ship after meeting with Badger. Jayne is complaining about the lack of profit, and he says (something to the effect of)

"Let's see....nothin' divided by nothin'....

The next line is what we can't agree on.

I say that he says "Carry the..."
My husband says "Carry nothin'"

Help!!

Hate to burst your husband's bubble, but you've got another vote for "carry the..."

Mal: You know, you ain't quite right.
River: It's a popular theory.

I always thought it was "Nuthin, and then nuthin, carry the one", which I found much funnier, but... eh, I dunno. Either way.

Actually, it's more like: "Carry the nuth..." He doesn't fully finish the last word, although he's often quoted as saying it in full. Arguably, the last syllable can be heard, but it's very, very faint.

As for the bet, you clearly won. Or, rather, your husband clearly lost. :) There's definitely an audible "the", and at least part of "nuthin'".

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I hear it as "Carry the nuthin" as well. "Nuthin, into nuthin, carry the nuthin..." though it's true you can't hear the last part so well because Mal and Zoe are talking over him a bit and he's in the background.

Thanks, everybody!! I think I'm winning - we watched, and rewatched, and rewatched (you're getting the idea!) that scene! All I can hear is "carry the". Closed captioning is no help - it doesn't include Jayne's last line!

Shiny.

That's pretty much what I thought it was. We don't want to get ulcers over minutiae! But if you REALLY have to know, you can purchase Mr. Baldwin's script (see elsewhere on FFF.net for details)...or ask him. He posts once in a while on some forums. :)

Happy Reaving!!
